사도행전 28장

우리가 구원을 얻은 후에 안즉 그 섬은 멜리데라 하더라

풀이: 겨우 살아 뭍에 오른 우리는, 그제야 그 섬이 멜리데라 불리는 곳임을 알았다.

And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.

토인들이 우리에게 특별한 동정을 하여 비가 오고 날이 차매 불을 피워 우리를 다 영접하더라

풀이: 섬 주민들은 우리에게 각별한 친절을 베풀었다. 비가 내리고 날이 추웠으므로, 그들은 불을 피워 우리 모두를 맞아 주었다.

And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.

바울이 한뭇 나무를 거두어 불에 넣으니 뜨거움을 인하여 독사가 나와 그 손을 물고 있는지라

풀이: 바울이 마른 나뭇가지 한 다발을 거두어 불에 넣자, 열기에 못 이겨 독사 한 마리가 기어 나와 그의 손을 물고 매달렸다.

And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.

토인들이 이 짐승이 그 손에 달림을 보고 서로 말하되 진실로 이 사람은 살인한 자로다 바다에서는 구원을 얻었으나 공의가 살지 못하게 하심이로다 하더니

풀이: 그 짐승이 바울의 손에 매달린 것을 보고 주민들이 서로 수군거렸다. "이 사람은 틀림없이 살인자다. 바다에서는 살아남았어도, 정의가 그를 살려 두지 않는구나."

And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.

바울이 그 짐승을 불에 떨어버리매 조금도 상함이 없더라

풀이: 그러나 바울은 그 짐승을 불 속으로 털어 버렸고, 아무런 해도 입지 않았다.

And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.

그가 붓든지 혹 갑자기 엎드러져 죽을 줄로 저희가 기다렸더니 오래 기다려도 그에게 아무 이상이 없음을 보고 돌려 생각하여 말하되 신이라 하더라

풀이: 사람들은 그가 곧 부어오르거나 갑자기 쓰러져 죽으리라 지켜보았다. 그러나 한참을 기다려도 그에게 아무 일도 일어나지 않자, 생각을 바꿔 이번엔 그를 신이라고 했다.

Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

이 섬에 제일 높은 사람 보블리오라 하는 이가 그 근처에 토지가 있는지라 그가 우리를 영접하여 사흘이나 친절히 유숙하게 하더니

풀이: 그 일대에는 섬의 우두머리인 보블리오라는 사람의 땅이 있었다. 그는 우리를 맞아들여 3일 동안 극진히 대접했다.

In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.

보블리오의 부친이 열병과 이질에 걸려 누웠거늘 바울이 들어가서 기도하고 그에게 안수하여 낫게 하매

풀이: 마침 보블리오의 아버지가 열병과 이질로 앓아누워 있었다. 바울이 그 방에 들어가 기도하고 손을 얹으니 병이 나았다.

And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

이러므로 섬 가운데 다른 병든 사람들이 와서 고침을 받고

풀이: 이 일이 있자 섬 안의 다른 병자들도 찾아와 고침을 받았다.

So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:

후한 예로 우리를 대접하고 떠날 때에 우리 쓸 것을 배에 올리더라

풀이: 그들은 여러 모로 우리를 후하게 예우했고, 우리가 떠날 때에는 필요한 것들을 배에 실어 주었다.

Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary.

석달 후에 그 섬에서 과동한 알렉산드리아 배를 우리가 타고 떠나니 그 배 기호는 디오스구로라

풀이: 3개월이 지나, 그 섬에서 겨울을 난 알렉산드리아 배를 타고 우리는 길을 떠났다. 그 배의 뱃머리에는 쌍둥이 신 디오스구로의 상이 새겨져 있었다.

And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.

수라구사에 대고 사흘을 있다가

풀이: 수라구사에 들러 3일을 머물고,

And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days.

거기서 둘러가서 레기온에 이르러 하루를 지난 후 남풍이 일어나므로 이튿날 보디올에 이르러

풀이: 거기서 빙 돌아 레기온에 닿았다. 하루가 지나 남풍이 불어오자, 이튿날 우리는 보디올에 이르렀다.

And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli:

거기서 형제를 만나 저희의 청함을 받아 이레를 함께 유하다가 로마로 가니라

풀이: 그곳에서 우리는 형제들을 만났고, 그들의 청에 따라 7일을 함께 묵은 뒤 로마로 향했다.

Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome.

거기 형제들이 우리 소식을 듣고 압비오 저자와 삼관까지 맞으러 오니 바울이 저희를 보고 하나님께 사례하고 담대한 마음을 얻으니라

풀이: 로마의 형제들은 우리 소식을 듣고 압비오 광장과 삼관이라는 곳까지 마중을 나왔다. 바울은 그들을 보고 신에게 감사하며 다시 용기를 얻었다.

And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii forum, and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.

우리가 로마에 들어가니 바울은 자기를 지키는 한 군사와 함께 따로 있게 허락하더라

풀이: 우리가 로마에 들어가자, 백부장은 죄수들을 경비대장에게 넘겼다. 다만 바울만은 자신을 지키는 병사 한 사람과 함께 따로 지내도록 허락받았다.

And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.

사흘 후에 바울이 유대인 중 높은 사람들을 청하여 모인 후에 이르되 여러분 형제들아 내가 이스라엘 백성이나 우리 조상의 규모를 배척한 일이 없는데 예루살렘에서 로마인의 손에 죄수로 내어준바 되었으니

풀이: 3일 뒤, 바울은 그 지역 유대인 지도자들을 불러 모았다. 그들이 모이자 그가 말했다. "형제 여러분, 나는 우리 백성이나 조상들의 관습을 거스른 일이 없는데도, 예루살렘에서 죄수로 붙들려 로마인의 손에 넘겨졌습니다.

And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.

로마인은 나를 심문하여 죽일 죄목이 없으므로 놓으려 하였으나

풀이: 로마인들은 나를 심문하고 나서 죽일 만한 죄목이 없으므로 풀어 주려 했습니다.

Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.

유대인들이 반대하기로 내가 마지못하여 가이사에게 호소함이요 내 민족을 송사하려는 것이 아니로라

풀이: 그러나 유대인들이 반대하는 바람에, 나는 어쩔 수 없이 황제께 상소했습니다. 내 민족을 고발하려는 뜻은 결코 아니었습니다.

But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Cesar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of.

이러하므로 너희를 보고 함께 이야기하려고 청하였노니 이스라엘의 소망을 인하여 내가 이 쇠사슬에 매인바 되었노라

풀이: 바로 이 일로 여러분을 만나 이야기를 나누려고 청한 것입니다. 내가 이 쇠사슬에 묶인 것은 이스라엘이 품어 온 그 소망 때문입니다."

For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.

저희가 가로되 우리가 유대에서 네게 대한 편지도 받은 일이 없고 또 형제 중 누가 와서 네게 대하여 좋지 못한 것을 고하든지 이야기한 일도 없느니라

풀이: 그들이 대답했다. "우리는 당신에 관해 유대에서 온 편지를 받은 적도 없고, 그곳에서 온 형제들 가운데 누구도 당신에 대해 나쁜 말을 전하거나 한 일이 없습니다.

And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judea concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.

이에 우리가 너의 사상이 어떠한가 듣고자 하노니 이 파에 대하여는 어디서든지 반대를 받는줄 우리가 앎이라 하더라

풀이: 다만 우리는 당신의 생각이 어떤지 직접 듣고 싶습니다. 이 파에 대해서는, 어디서나 사람들이 반대한다는 것을 우리도 알고 있으니까요."

But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.

저희가 일자를 정하고 그의 우거하는 집에 많이 오니 바울이 아침부터 저녁까지 강론하여 하나님 나라를 증거하고 모세의 율법과 선지자의 말을 가지고 예수의 일로 권하더라

풀이: 그래서 그들은 날을 정했고, 그날 더 많은 사람이 그가 묵는 집으로 찾아왔다. 바울은 아침부터 저녁까지 신의 나라를 풀어 설명하고 증언했으며, 모세의 율법과 예언자들의 글을 들어 예수에 관해 그들을 설득했다.

And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.

그 말을 믿는 사람도 있고 믿지 아니하는 사람도 있어

풀이: 그가 한 말을 믿는 사람도 있었고, 믿지 않는 사람도 있었다.

And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

서로 맞지 아니하여 흩어질 때에 바울이 한 말로 일러 가로되 성령이 선지자 이사야로 너희 조상들에게 말씀하신 것이 옳도다

풀이: 서로 의견이 엇갈린 채 흩어지려 할 때, 바울이 마지막으로 한마디 했다. "성령이 예언자 이사야의 입을 빌려 여러분의 조상에게 하신 말씀이 옳습니다.

And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

일렀으되 이 백성에게 가서 말하기를 너희가 듣기는 들어도 도무지 깨닫지 못하며 보기는 보아도 도무지 알지 못하는도다

풀이: '이 백성에게 가서 말하라. 너희가 듣고 또 들어도 도무지 깨닫지 못하고, 보고 또 보아도 도무지 알아채지 못하리라.

Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:

이 백성들의 마음이 완악하여져서 그 귀로는 둔하게 듣고 그 눈을 감았으니 이는 눈으로 보고 귀로 듣고 마음으로 깨달아 돌아와 나의 고침을 받을까 함이라 하였으니

풀이: 이 백성의 마음이 굳어 버렸고, 귀는 막혀 잘 듣지 못하며, 눈은 스스로 감았다. 눈으로 보고 귀로 듣고 마음으로 깨달아 돌이켜, 내게 고침받는 일이 없게 하려는 것이다.'

For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

그런즉 하나님의 이 구원을 이방인에게로 보내신줄 알라 저희는 또한 들으리라 하더라

풀이: 그러니 여러분은 알아 두십시오. 신의 이 구원이 이방 사람들에게 보내졌고, 그들은 귀 기울여 들을 것입니다."

Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.

풀이: 바울이 이 말을 마치자, 유대인들은 자기들끼리 격렬히 다투며 돌아갔다.

And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.

바울이 온 이태를 자기 셋집에 유하며 자기에게 오는 사람을 다 영접하고

풀이: 바울은 꼬박 2년 동안 자기가 세낸 집에 머물면서, 자기를 찾아오는 사람을 모두 맞아들였다.

And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,

담대히 하나님 나라를 전파하며 주 예수 그리스도께 관한 것을 가르치되 금하는 사람이 없었더라

풀이: 그러고는 아무 거리낌 없이 담대하게 신의 나라를 전파하고 주 예수 그리스도에 관해 가르쳤다. 누구도 그것을 막지 않았다.

Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
