사도행전 21장

우리가 저희를 작별하고 행선하여 바로 고스로 가서 이튿날 로도에 이르러 거기서부터 바다라로 가서

풀이: 우리는 그들과 작별하고 닻을 올렸다. 곧장 항로를 잡아 고스에 닿았고, 이튿날 로도에, 거기서 다시 바다라에 이르렀다.

And it came to pass, that after we were gotten from them, and had launched, we came with a straight course unto Coos, and the day following unto Rhodes, and from thence unto Patara:

베니게로 건너가는 배를 만나서 타고 가다가

풀이: 베니게로 건너가는 배를 만나, 그 배에 올라 떠났다.

And finding a ship sailing over unto Phenicia, we went aboard, and set forth.

구브로를 바라보고 이를 왼편에 두고 수리아로 행선하여 두로에서 상륙하니 거기서 배가 짐을 풀려 함이러라

풀이: 구브로 섬이 보이자 그 섬을 왼편으로 흘려보내며 수리아 쪽으로 항해해, 두로에 배를 댔다. 거기서 배가 짐을 부리기로 되어 있었다.

Now when we had discovered Cyprus, we left it on the left hand, and sailed into Syria, and landed at Tyre: for there the ship was to unlade her burden.

제자들을 찾아 거기서 이레를 머물더니 그 제자들이 성령의 감동으로 바울더러 예루살렘에 들어가지 말라 하더라

풀이: 우리는 그곳 제자들을 수소문해 찾아내어 7일을 머물렀다. 그들은 성령에 이끌려 바울에게 예루살렘에 올라가지 말라고 말했다.

And finding disciples, we tarried there seven days: who said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not go up to Jerusalem.

이 여러 날을 지난 후 우리가 떠나갈쌔 저희가 다 그 처자와 함께 성문 밖까지 전송하거늘 우리가 바닷가에서 무릎을 꿇어 기도하고

풀이: 머물 날이 다 차자 우리는 길을 떠났다. 제자들은 아내와 아이들까지 다 데리고 성 밖까지 우리를 배웅했고, 우리는 바닷가에 무릎을 꿇고 함께 기도했다.

And when we had accomplished those days, we departed and went our way; and they all brought us on our way, with wives and children, till we were out of the city: and we kneeled down on the shore, and prayed.

서로 작별한 후 우리는 배에 오르고 저희는 집으로 돌아가니라

풀이: 서로 작별 인사를 나눈 뒤, 우리는 배에 올랐고 그들은 집으로 돌아갔다.

And when we had taken our leave one of another, we took ship; and they returned home again.

두로로부터 수로를 다 행하여 돌레마이에 이르러 형제들에게 안부를 묻고 그들과 함께 하루를 있다가

풀이: 두로를 떠나 뱃길을 마치고 돌레마이에 이르러, 그곳 형제들에게 안부를 전하고 하루를 함께 묵었다.

And when we had finished our course from Tyre, we came to Ptolemais, and saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day.

이튿날 떠나 가이사랴에 이르러 일곱 집사 중 하나인 전도자 빌립의 집에 들어가서 유하니라

풀이: 이튿날 길을 나선 우리는 가이사랴에 이르러, 전도자 빌립의 집에 들어가 묵었다. 그는 일찍이 일곱 일꾼으로 뽑힌 이들 가운데 하나였다.

And the next day we that were of Paul’s company departed, and came unto Cesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him.

그에게 딸 넷이 있으니 처녀로 예언하는 자라

풀이: 빌립에게는 결혼하지 않은 딸 넷이 있었는데, 모두 예언하는 이들이었다.

And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.

여러 날 있더니 한 선지자 아가보라 하는 이가 유대로부터 내려와

풀이: 우리가 거기서 여러 날 머무는 동안, 아가보라는 한 예언자가 유대 지방에서 내려왔다.

And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judea a certain prophet, named Agabus.

우리에게 와서 바울의 띠를 가져다가 자기 수족을 잡아매고 말하기를 성령이 말씀하시되 예루살렘에서 유대인들이 이같이 이 띠 임자를 결박하여 이방인의 손에 넘겨주리라 하거늘

풀이: 그가 우리에게 와서 바울의 허리띠를 집어 들더니, 그것으로 자기 손과 발을 묶고 말했다. “성령이 이렇게 말씀하십니다. 예루살렘에서 유대인들이 이 띠의 주인을 꼭 이렇게 묶어, 이방인의 손에 넘길 것이다.”

And when he was come unto us, he took Paul’s girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.

우리가 그 말을 듣고 그곳 사람들로 더불어 바울에게 예루살렘으로 올라가지 말라 권하니

풀이: 이 말을 듣고 우리도, 그곳 사람들도 바울에게 예루살렘에 올라가지 말라고 간곡히 말렸다.

And when we heard these things, both we, and they of that place, besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.

바울이 대답하되 너희가 어찌하여 울어 내 마음을 상하게 하느냐 나는 주 예수의 이름을 위하여 결박 받을 뿐아니라 예루살렘에서 죽을 것도 각오하였노라 하니

풀이: 그러자 바울이 대답했다. “어찌하여 이렇게 울며 내 마음을 미어지게 합니까? 나는 주 예수의 이름을 위해서라면 묶이는 것은 물론이고 예루살렘에서 죽을 각오까지 되어 있습니다.”

Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

저가 권함을 받지 아니하므로 우리가 주의 뜻대로 이루어지이다 하고 그쳤노라

풀이: 끝내 그를 설득할 수 없자, 우리는 “주님의 뜻대로 이루어지기를 빕니다” 하고 더는 말리지 않았다.

And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.

이 여러 날 후에 행장을 준비하여 예루살렘으로 올라갈쌔

풀이: 이 여러 날이 지난 뒤, 우리는 짐을 꾸려 예루살렘으로 올라갔다.

And after those days we took up our carriages, and went up to Jerusalem.

가이사랴의 몇 제자가 함께 가며 한 오랜 제자 구브로 사람 나손을 데리고 가니 이는 우리가 그의 집에 유하려 함이라

풀이: 가이사랴의 제자 몇 사람도 우리와 함께 길을 나섰는데, 구브로 출신의 오랜 제자 나손을 데려왔다. 우리가 그의 집에 묵기로 했기 때문이다.

There went with us also certain of the disciples of Cesarea, and brought with them one Mnason of Cyprus, an old disciple, with whom we should lodge.

예루살렘에 이르니 형제들이 우리를 기꺼이 영접하거늘

풀이: 예루살렘에 이르자, 형제들이 우리를 기쁘게 맞아 주었다.

And when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.

그 이튿날 바울이 우리와 함께 야고보에게로 들어가니 장로들도 다 있더라

풀이: 이튿날 바울은 우리와 함께 야고보를 찾아갔고, 장로들도 모두 그 자리에 있었다.

And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present.

바울이 문안하고 하나님이 자기의 봉사로 말미암아 이방 가운데서 하신 일을 낱낱이 고하니

풀이: 바울은 인사를 나눈 뒤, 자신의 사역을 통해 신이 이방 사람들 가운데서 이루신 일을 하나하나 자세히 들려주었다.

And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.

저희가 듣고 하나님께 영광을 돌리고 바울더러 이르되 형제여 그대도 보는바에 유대인 중에 믿는 자 수만명이 있으니 다 율법에 열심 있는 자라

풀이: 그들은 이 말을 듣고 주께 영광을 돌렸다. 그러고는 바울에게 말했다. “형제여, 보다시피 유대인 가운데 믿는 이가 수만 명이나 되는데, 다들 율법에 열심인 사람들이오.

And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law:

네가 이방에 있는 모든 유대인을 가르치되 모세를 배반하고 아들들에게 할례를 하지 말고 또 규모를 지키지 말라 한다 함을 저희가 들었도다

풀이: 그런데 그대가 이방에 사는 유대인들에게 모세를 등지라고, 자식들에게 할례도 행하지 말고 관습도 따르지 말라고 가르친다는 소문을 그들이 들었소.

And they are informed of thee, that thou teachest all the Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.

그러면 어찌할꼬 저희가 필연 그대의 온 것을 들으리니

풀이: 그러니 어찌하면 좋겠소? 그대가 왔다는 소식을 들으면 사람들이 틀림없이 몰려들 텐데.

What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come together: for they will hear that thou art come.

우리의 말하는 이대로 하라 서원한 네 사람이 우리에게 있으니

풀이: 그러니 우리가 일러 주는 대로 하시오. 우리 가운데 서원을 한 사람이 넷 있소.

Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men which have a vow on them;

저희를 데리고 함께 결례를 행하고 저희를 위하여 비용을 내어 머리를 깎게 하라 그러면 모든 사람이 그대에게 대하여 들은 것이 헛된 것이고 그대도 율법을 지켜 행하는 줄로 알 것이라

풀이: 그들을 데려다 함께 결례를 행하고, 그들이 머리 깎는 비용을 그대가 대시오. 그러면 그대에 관해 들은 소문이 다 헛것이고, 그대 자신도 율법을 지켜 바르게 살고 있음을 모두가 알게 될 것이오.

Them take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges with them, that they may shave their heads: and all may know that those things, whereof they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, and keepest the law.

주를 믿는 이방인에게는 우리가 우상의 제물과 피와 목매어 죽인 것과 음행을 피할 것을 결의하고 편지하였느니라 하니

풀이: 주를 믿는 이방 사람들에 관해서는, 우리가 이미 의논을 마치고 편지를 보냈소. 우상에게 바친 제물과 피와 목 졸라 잡은 짐승의 고기와 음행만은 멀리하라고 말이오.

As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.

바울이 이 사람들을 데리고 이튿날 저희와 함께 결례를 행하고 성전에 들어가서 각 사람을 위하여 제사 드릴 때까지의 결례의 만기 된것을 고하니라

풀이: 이튿날 바울은 그 사람들을 데리고 함께 결례를 행한 뒤 성전에 들어가, 결례 기간이 언제 끝나 각 사람을 위한 제물을 바치게 되는지를 알렸다.

Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them entered into the temple, to signify the accomplishment of the days of purification, until that an offering should be offered for every one of them.

그 이레가 거의 차매 아시아로부터 온 유대인들이 성전에서 바울을 보고 모든 무리를 충동하여 그를 붙들고

풀이: 그 7일이 거의 끝나갈 무렵, 아시아에서 온 유대인들이 성전 안에 있는 바울을 보고 온 무리를 들쑤셔 그를 붙잡고

And when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews which were of Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all the people, and laid hands on him,

외치되 이스라엘 사람들아 도우라 이 사람은 각처에서 우리 백성과 율법과 이곳을 훼방하여 모든 사람을 가르치는 그 자인데 또 헬라인을 데리고 성전에 들어가서 이 거룩한 곳을 더럽게 하였다 하니

풀이: 외쳤다. “이스라엘 사람들이여, 도와주시오! 이 자가 바로 어디서나 우리 백성과 율법과 이곳을 거슬러 모두를 가르치는 그 사람이오. 게다가 헬라 사람까지 성전에 끌어들여 이 거룩한 곳을 더럽혔소!”

Crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, that teacheth all men every where against the people, and the law, and this place: and further brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath polluted this holy place.

이는 저희가 전에 에베소 사람 드로비모가 바울과 함께 성내에 있음을 보고 바울이 저를 성전에 데리고 들어간 줄로 생각함일러라

풀이: 그들은 전에 에베소 사람 드로비모가 바울과 함께 성안에 있는 것을 보고, 바울이 그를 성전에 데리고 들어갔으리라 넘겨짚은 것이었다.

(For they had seen before with him in the city Trophimus an Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.)

온 성이 소동하여 백성이 달려와 모여 바울을 잡아 성전 밖으로 끌고 나가니 문들이 곧 닫히더라

풀이: 온 성이 들끓었다. 사람들이 사방에서 달려와 바울을 붙잡아 성전 밖으로 끌어냈고, 곧바로 문이 닫혔다.

And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: and they took Paul, and drew him out of the temple: and forthwith the doors were shut.

저희가 그를 죽이려 할 때에 온 예루살렘의 요란하다는 소문이 군대의 천부장에게 들리매

풀이: 그들이 바울을 죽이려 하던 바로 그때, 온 예루살렘이 들고일어났다는 보고가 로마 주둔군 천부장에게 올라갔다.

And as they went about to kill him, tidings came unto the chief captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.

저가 급히 군사들과 백부장들을 거느리고 달려 내려가니 저희가 천부장과 군사들을 보고 바울 치기를 그치는지라

풀이: 그는 즉시 군사들과 백부장들을 거느리고 그들에게 달려 내려갔다. 사람들은 천부장과 군사들을 보자 바울 때리기를 멈췄다.

Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down unto them: and when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, they left beating of Paul.

이에 천부장이 가까이 가서 바울을 잡아 두 쇠사슬로 결박하라 명하고 누구며 무슨 일을 하였느냐 물으니

풀이: 천부장은 다가가 바울을 붙잡아 쇠사슬 둘로 묶으라 명한 뒤, 이자가 누구이며 무슨 일을 저질렀는지 물었다.

Then the chief captain came near, and took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and demanded who he was, and what he had done.

무리 가운데서 어떤이는 이 말로, 어떤이는 저 말로 부르짖거늘 천부장이 소동을 인하여 그 실상을 알 수 없어 그를 영문 안으로 데려가라 명하니라

풀이: 무리 가운데서 저마다 다른 말로 외쳐 대니, 소란 때문에 진상을 알 수 없었던 천부장은 바울을 병영 안으로 데려가라고 명했다.

And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude: and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the castle.

바울이 층대에 이를 때에 무리의 포행을 인하여 군사들에게 들려가니

풀이: 바울이 층계에 이르렀을 때, 무리가 어찌나 거칠게 밀어붙이는지 군사들이 그를 둘러메고 가야 했다.

And when he came upon the stairs, so it was, that he was borne of the soldiers for the violence of the people.

이는 백성의 무리가 그를 없이 하자고 외치며 따라 감이러라

풀이: 백성의 무리가 “저자를 없애라!” 외치며 뒤따라왔기 때문이다.

For the multitude of the people followed after, crying, Away with him.

바울을 데리고 영문으로 들어가려 할 그 때에 바울이 천부장더러 이르되 내가 당신에게 말할 수 있느뇨 가로되 네가 헬라 말을 아느냐

풀이: 바울이 병영 안으로 막 끌려들어 가려는 참에 천부장에게 물었다. “한 말씀 드려도 되겠습니까?” 그러자 천부장이 말했다. “네가 헬라 말을 할 줄 아느냐?

And as Paul was to be led into the castle, he said unto the chief captain, May I speak unto thee? Who said, Canst thou speak Greek?

그러면 네가 이전에 난을 일으켜 사천의 자객을 거느리고 광야로 가던 애굽인이 아니냐

풀이: 그렇다면 너는 얼마 전에 반란을 일으켜 자객 4,000명을 거느리고 광야로 나갔던 그 애굽 사람이 아니냐?”

Art not thou that Egyptian, which before these days madest an uproar, and leddest out into the wilderness four thousand men that were murderers?

바울이 가로되 나는 유대인이라 소읍이 아닌 길리기아 다소성의 시민이니 청컨대 백성에게 말하기를 허락하라 하니

풀이: 바울이 대답했다. “나는 유대 사람이고, 길리기아 다소 출신입니다. 결코 보잘것없지 않은 도시의 시민이지요. 부디 백성에게 말할 수 있도록 허락해 주십시오.”

But Paul said, I am a man which am a Jew of Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and, I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people.

천부장이 허락하거늘 바울이 층대 위에 서서 백성에게 손짓하여 크게 종용히 한 후에 히브리 방언으로 말하여 가로되

풀이: 천부장이 허락하자, 바울은 층계 위에 서서 백성을 향해 손을 흔들어 보였다. 사람들이 깊이 잠잠해지자, 그는 히브리 말로 그들에게 이야기하기 시작했다.

And when he had given him licence, Paul stood on the stairs, and beckoned with the hand unto the people. And when there was made a great silence, he spake unto them in the Hebrew tongue, saying,
