민수기 31장

여호와께서 모세에게 일러 가라사대

풀이: 신이 모세에게 일렀다.

And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

이스라엘 자손의 원수를 미디안에게 갚으라 그 후에 네가 네 조상에게로 돌아가리라

풀이: "이스라엘 백성을 위해 미디안에게 복수를 갚아라. 그 일을 마치고 나면, 너는 네 조상들 곁으로 거두어지리라."

Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.

모세가 백성에게 일러 가로되 너희 중에서 사람을 택하여 싸움에 나갈 준비를 시키고 미디안을 치러 보내어서 여호와의 원수를 미디안에게 갚되

풀이: 모세가 백성에게 말했다. "너희 가운데서 사람들을 골라 전투 채비를 시켜라. 그들을 미디안으로 보내, 미디안에게 신의 복수를 갚게 하여라."

And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the Lord of Midian.

이스라엘 모든 지파에 대하여 각 지파에서 일천인씩을 싸움에 보낼찌니라 하매

풀이: "이스라엘 모든 지파에서 각각 1,000명씩 싸움터로 내보내라."

Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.

매 지파에서 일천인씩 이스라엘 천만인 중에서 일만 이천인을 택하여 무장을 시킨지라

풀이: 그리하여 이스라엘 수천 명 가운데서 지파마다 1,000명씩, 모두 12,000명이 무장하고 싸움에 나섰다.

So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.

모세가 매 지파에 일천인씩 싸움에 보내되 제사장 엘르아살의 아들 비느하스에게 성소의 기구와 신호 나팔을 들려서 그들과 함께 싸움에 보내매

풀이: 모세는 지파마다 1,000명씩을 싸움터로 보내면서, 제사장 엘르아살의 아들 비느하스를 함께 보냈다. 그의 손에는 성소의 거룩한 기구와 신호용 나팔이 들려 있었다.

And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.

그들이 여호와께서 모세에게 명하신 대로 미디안을 쳐서 그 남자를 다 죽였고

풀이: 그들은 신이 모세에게 명한 대로 미디안과 싸워, 그곳 남자들을 모두 죽였다.

And they warred against the Midianites, as the Lord commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.

그 죽인 자 외에 미디안의 다섯 왕을 죽였으니 미디안의 왕들은 에위와 레겜과 수르와 후르와 레바이며 또 브올의 아들 발람을 칼로 죽였더라

풀이: 그렇게 죽인 자들 외에 미디안의 다섯 왕 — 에위, 레겜, 수르, 후르, 레바 — 도 죽였다. 그리고 브올의 아들 발람도 칼로 베어 죽였다.

And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

이스라엘 자손이 미디안의 부녀들과 그 아이들을 사로잡고 그 가축과 양떼와 재물을 다 탈취하고

풀이: 이스라엘 사람들은 미디안의 여자들과 아이들을 사로잡고, 가축과 양 떼와 재물을 모두 빼앗았다.

And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods.

그 거처하는 성읍들과 촌락을 다 불사르고

풀이: 그들이 살던 성읍과 부락은 모조리 불살랐다.

And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire.

탈취한것, 노략한것, 사람과 짐승을 다 취하니라

풀이: 그러고는 사람이든 짐승이든, 빼앗은 것과 노략한 것을 전부 챙겨 들고

And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts.

그들이 사로잡은 자와 노략한 것과 탈취한 것을 가지고 여리고 맞은편 요단 가 모압 평지의 진에 이르러 모세와 제사장 엘르아살과 이스라엘 자손의 회중에게로 나아오니라

풀이: 여리고 맞은편, 요단 강가 모압 평지의 진영으로 돌아왔다. 사로잡은 포로와 노략물과 전리품을 모세와 제사장 엘르아살과 이스라엘 회중 앞에 가져온 것이다.

And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.

모세와 제사장 엘르아살과 회중의 족장들이 다 진 밖에 나가서 영접하다가

풀이: 모세와 제사장 엘르아살과 회중의 지도자들이 모두 진영 밖으로 나가 그들을 맞이했다.

And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.

모세가 군대의 장관 곧 싸움에서 돌아온 천부장들과 백부장들에게 노하니라

풀이: 그런데 모세는 싸움에서 돌아온 군 지휘관들, 곧 1,000명을 거느린 천부장들과 100명을 거느린 백부장들에게 화를 냈다.

And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.

모세가 그들에게 이르되 너희가 여자들을 다 살려두었느냐

풀이: 모세가 그들에게 따져 물었다. "너희가 여자들을 다 살려 두었단 말이냐?"

And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?

보라 이들이 발람의 꾀를 좇아 이스라엘 자손으로 브올의 사건에 여호와 앞에 범죄케하여 여호와의 회중에 염병이 일어나게 하였느니라

풀이: "보아라, 바로 이 여자들이 발람의 꾀에 놀아나, 브올에서 이스라엘 백성이 신을 등지고 돌아서게 만든 자들이다. 그 일로 신의 회중에 전염병이 돌지 않았느냐."

Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord.

그러므로 아이들 중에 남자는 다 죽이고 남자와 동침하여 사내를 안 여자는 다 죽이고

풀이: "그러니 아이들 가운데 사내아이는 다 죽이고, 남자와 잠자리를 같이해 남자를 안 여자도 다 죽여라."

Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.

남자와 동침하지 아니하여 사내를 알지 못하는 여자들은 다 너희를 위하여 살려 둘것이니라

풀이: "다만 남자와 잠자리를 같이한 적 없어 아직 남자를 모르는 여자아이들만은, 너희를 위해 살려 두어라."

But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

너희는 칠일 동안 진 밖에 주둔하라 무릇 살인자나 죽임을 당한 시체를 만진 자나 제 삼일과 제 칠일에 몸을 깨끗케 하고 너희의 포로도 깨끗케 할 것이며

풀이: "너희는 7일 동안 진영 밖에 머물러라. 사람을 죽인 자든 시체에 닿은 자든, 모두 3일째와 7일째에 몸을 정결하게 하고, 너희가 잡아 온 포로들도 정결하게 하여라."

And do ye abide without the camp seven days: whosoever hath killed any person, and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify both yourselves and your captives on the third day, and on the seventh day.

무릇 의복과 무릇 가죽으로 만든 것과 무릇 염소털로 만든 것과 무릇 나무로 만든 것을 다 깨끗케 할찌니라

풀이: "옷이든, 가죽으로 만든 것이든, 염소털로 짠 것이든, 나무로 만든 것이든 — 죽음에 닿은 것은 모두 정결하게 하여라."

And purify all your raiment, and all that is made of skins, and all work of goats’ hair, and all things made of wood.

제사장 엘르아살이 싸움에 나갔던 군인들에게 이르되 이는 여호와께서 모세에게 명하신 법률이니라

풀이: 제사장 엘르아살이 싸움에 나갔던 군인들에게 말했다. "이것이 신이 모세에게 명한 율법의 규정이다."

And Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war which went to the battle, This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord commanded Moses;

금, 은, 동, 철과 상납과 납의

풀이: "금, 은, 구리, 쇠, 주석, 납 —

Only the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

무릇 불에 견딜만한 물건은 불을 지나게 하라 그리하면 깨끗하려니와 오히려 정결케 하는 물로 그것을 깨끗케 할 것이며 무릇 불에 견디지 못할 모든 것은 물을 지나게 할 것이니라

풀이: 불에 견디는 것은 무엇이든 불을 통과시켜라. 그러면 정결해진다. 그런 뒤에도 정결케 하는 물로 다시 씻어야 한다. 불에 견디지 못하는 것은 물을 통과시켜라."

Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.

너희는 제 칠일에 옷을 빨아서 깨끗케 한 후에 진에 들어올찌니라

풀이: "7일째 되는 날, 옷을 빨아 몸을 정결하게 한 뒤에야 진영으로 들어올 수 있다."

And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and afterward ye shall come into the camp.

여호와께서 모세에게 일러 가라사대

풀이: 신이 모세에게 일렀다.

And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

너는 제사장 엘르아살과 회중의 족장들로 더불어 이 탈취한 사람과 짐승을 계수하고

풀이: "너는 제사장 엘르아살과 회중의 가문 어른들과 함께, 사로잡은 사람과 짐승, 곧 노략물의 수를 헤아려라."

Take the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the chief fathers of the congregation:

그 얻은 물건을 반분하여 그 절반은 싸움에 나갔던 군인들에게 주고 절반은 회중에게 주고

풀이: "그러고는 그 노략물을 절반으로 나누어, 절반은 싸움에 나갔던 군인들에게, 절반은 나머지 온 회중에게 주어라."

And divide the prey into two parts; between them that took the war upon them, who went out to battle, and between all the congregation:

싸움에 나갔던 군인들로는 사람이나 소나 나귀나 양떼의 오백분지 일을 여호와께 드리게 하되

풀이: "싸움에 나갔던 군인들의 몫에서는, 사람이든 소든 나귀든 양이든 500마리마다 한 몫을 떼어 신께 세(稅)로 바치게 하여라."

And levy a tribute unto the Lord of the men of war which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the beeves, and of the asses, and of the sheep:

곧 이를 그들의 절반에서 취하여 여호와의 거제로 제사장 엘르아살에게 주고

풀이: "곧 군인들이 받은 절반에서 이만큼을 떼어, 신께 들어 올려 바치는 예물로 제사장 엘르아살에게 주어라."

Take it of their half, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, for an heave offering of the Lord.

또 이스라엘 자손의 얻은 절반에서는 사람이나 소나 나귀나 양떼나 각종 짐승을 오십분지 일을 취하여 여호와의 성막을 맡은 레위인에게 주라

풀이: "또 이스라엘 회중이 받은 절반에서는, 사람이든 소든 나귀든 양이든 온갖 짐승이든 50마리마다 하나씩을 떼어, 신의 성막을 맡아 지키는 레위 사람들에게 주어라."

And of the children of Israel’s half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the beeves, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the Levites, which keep the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord.

모세와 제사장 엘르아살이 여호와께서 모세에게 명하신대로 하니라

풀이: 모세와 제사장 엘르아살은 신이 모세에게 명한 그대로 했다.

And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord commanded Moses.

그 탈취물 곧 군인들의 다른 탈취물 외에 양이 육십 칠만 오천이요

풀이: 군인들이 각자 따로 챙긴 것 말고도, 거두어 들인 노략물은 양이 67만 5,000마리,

And the booty, being the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep,

소가 칠만 이천이요

풀이: 소가 7만 2,000마리,

And threescore and twelve thousand beeves,

나귀가 육만 일천이요

풀이: 나귀가 6만 1,000마리,

And threescore and one thousand asses,

사람은 남자와 동침하지 아니하여서 사내를 알지 못하는 여자가 도합 삼만 이천이니

풀이: 그리고 사람은, 남자와 잠자리를 같이한 적 없어 아직 남자를 모르는 여자가 모두 3만 2,000명이었다.

And thirty and two thousand persons in all, of women that had not known man by lying with him.

그 절반 곧 싸움에 나갔던 자들의 소유가 양이 삼십 삼만 칠천 오백이라

풀이: 이 가운데 싸움에 나갔던 자들의 몫인 절반은, 양이 33만 7,500마리였고

And the half, which was the portion of them that went out to war, was in number three hundred thousand and seven and thirty thousand and five hundred sheep:

여호와께 세로 드린 양이 육백 칠십 오요

풀이: 그 가운데 신께 세로 바친 양은 675마리였다.

And the Lord’s tribute of the sheep was six hundred and threescore and fifteen.

소가 삼만 육천이라 그 중에서 여호와께 세로 드린 것이 칠십 이두요

풀이: 소는 3만 6,000마리, 그 가운데 신께 세로 바친 것은 72마리였다.

And the beeves were thirty and six thousand; of which the Lord’s tribute was threescore and twelve.

나귀가 삼만 오백이라 그 중에서 여호와께 세로 드린 것이 육십 일이요

풀이: 나귀는 3만 500마리, 그 가운데 신께 세로 바친 것은 61마리였다.

And the asses were thirty thousand and five hundred; of which the Lord’s tribute was threescore and one.

사람이 일만 육천이라 그 중에서 여호와께 세로 드리운 자가 삼십 이명이니

풀이: 사람은 1만 6,000명, 그 가운데 신께 세로 바친 사람은 32명이었다.

And the persons were sixteen thousand; of which the Lord’s tribute was thirty and two persons.

여호와께 거제의 세로 드린 것을 모세가 제사장 엘르아살에게 주었으니 여호와께서 모세에게 명하심과 같았더라

풀이: 모세는 신께 들어 올려 바치는 예물로 떼어 둔 그 세를 제사장 엘르아살에게 주었다. 신이 모세에게 명한 그대로였다.

And Moses gave the tribute, which was the Lord’s heave offering, unto Eleazar the priest, as the Lord commanded Moses.

모세가 싸움에 나갔던 자에게서 나누어 취하여 이스라엘 자손에게 준 절반

풀이: 한편 모세가 싸움에 나갔던 자들에게서 나누어, 이스라엘 회중에게 돌린 절반 —

And of the children of Israel’s half, which Moses divided from the men that warred,

곧 회중의 얻은 절반은 양이 삼십 삼만 칠천 오백이요

풀이: 곧 회중이 받은 절반은 양이 33만 7,500마리,

(Now the half that pertained unto the congregation was three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred sheep,

소가 삼만 육천이요

풀이: 소가 3만 6,000마리,

And thirty and six thousand beeves,

나귀가 삼만 오백이요

풀이: 나귀가 3만 500마리,

And thirty thousand asses and five hundred,

사람이 일만 육천이라

풀이: 사람이 1만 6,000명이었다.

And sixteen thousand persons;)

이스라엘 자손의 그 절반에서 모세가 사람이나 짐승의 오십분지 일을 취하여 여호와의 장막을 맡은 레위인에게 주었으니 여호와께서 모세에게 명하심과 같았더라

풀이: 모세는 이스라엘 회중이 받은 그 절반에서, 사람이든 짐승이든 50마리마다 하나씩을 떼어, 신의 장막을 맡아 지키는 레위 사람들에게 주었다. 신이 모세에게 명한 그대로였다.

Even of the children of Israel’s half, Moses took one portion of fifty, both of man and of beast, and gave them unto the Levites, which kept the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord; as the Lord commanded Moses.

군대의 장관들 곧 천부장과 백부장들이 모세에게 나아와서

풀이: 그때 군대의 지휘관들, 곧 천부장들과 백부장들이 모세에게 다가와

And the officers which were over thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, came near unto Moses:

그에게 고하되 당신의 종들의 영솔한 군인을 계수한즉 우리중 한 사람도 축나지 아니하였기로

풀이: 이렇게 아뢰었다. "당신의 종들이 거느린 군인의 수를 헤아려 보니, 우리 가운데 한 사람도 빠진 이가 없습니다."

And they said unto Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war which are under our charge, and there lacketh not one man of us.

우리 각 사람의 얻은바 금 패물 곧 발목고리, 손목고리, 인장반지, 귀고리, 팔고리들을 여호와의 예물로 우리의 생명을 위하여 여호와 앞에 속죄하려고 가져왔나이다

풀이: "그래서 저마다 손에 넣은 금붙이 — 발목 고리, 손목 고리, 인장 반지, 귀고리, 팔찌 — 를 신께 바칠 예물로 가져왔습니다. 신 앞에서 우리 목숨을 위해 속죄하려는 것입니다."

We have therefore brought an oblation for the Lord, what every man hath gotten, of jewels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, earrings, and tablets, to make an atonement for our souls before the Lord.

모세와 제사장 엘르아살이 그들에게서 그 금으로 만든 모든 패물을 취한즉

풀이: 모세와 제사장 엘르아살은 그들에게서 그 금으로 만든 패물을 모두 받았다.

And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, even all wrought jewels.

천부장과 백부장들이 여호와께 드린 거제의 금의 도합이 일만 육천 칠백 오십 세겔이니

풀이: 천부장과 백부장들이 신께 들어 올려 바친 금붙이는 모두 1만 6,750세겔이었다.

And all the gold of the offering that they offered up to the Lord, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.

군인들이 각기 자기를 위하여 탈취한 것이니라

풀이: 군인들은 저마다 자기를 위해 따로 노략한 것이 있었다.

(For the men of war had taken spoil, every man for himself.)

모세와 제사장 엘르아살이 천부장과 백부장들에게서 금을 취하여 회막에 들여서 여호와 앞에 이스라엘 자손의 기념을 삼았더라

풀이: 모세와 제사장 엘르아살은 천부장과 백부장들에게서 받은 그 금을 회막 안으로 들여, 신 앞에서 이스라엘 백성을 기억하게 하는 표로 삼았다.

And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation, for a memorial for the children of Israel before the Lord.
