민수기 25장

이스라엘이 싯딤에 머물러 있더니 그 백성이 모압 여자들과 음행하기를 시작하니라

풀이: 이스라엘이 싯딤에 진을 치고 머물렀다. 그러는 동안 백성이 모압 여자들과 몸을 섞기 시작했다.

And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.

그 여자들이 그 신들에게 제사할 때에 백성을 청하매 백성이 먹고 그들의 신들에게 절하므로

풀이: 그 여자들이 자기네 신들에게 제사를 올리며 백성을 불러들였다. 백성은 그 제물을 받아먹고, 그들의 신 앞에 엎드려 절했다.

And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.

이스라엘이 바알브올에게 부속된지라 여호와께서 이스라엘에게 진노하시니라

풀이: 그렇게 이스라엘은 바알브올에게 매여 버렸다. 신은 이스라엘에게 분노가 타올랐다.

And Israel joined himself unto Baal–peor: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel.

여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 백성의 두령들을 잡아 태양을 향하여 여호와 앞에 목매어 달라 그리하면 여호와의 진노가 이스라엘에게서 떠나리라

풀이: 신이 모세에게 말했다. "백성의 우두머리들을 잡아다가, 해가 보는 앞에서 신 앞에 매달아라. 그래야 이스라엘을 향해 타오르는 분노가 가라앉는다."

And the Lord said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.

모세가 이스라엘 사사들에게 이르되 너희는 각기 관할하는 자 중에 바알브올에게 부속한 사람들을 죽이라 하니라

풀이: 모세가 이스라엘의 재판관들에게 일렀다. "너희는 저마다 자기 관할 아래에서 바알브올에게 매인 자들을 죽여라."

And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baal–peor.

이스라엘 자손의 온 회중이 회막 문에서 울 때에 이스라엘 자손 한 사람이 모세와 온 회중의 목전에 미디안의 한 여인을 데리고 그 형제에게로 온지라

풀이: 온 회중이 회막 문 앞에서 울고 있는데, 바로 그때 이스라엘 사람 하나가 모세와 온 회중이 보는 앞에서 미디안 여자 하나를 데리고 제 동족에게로 들어왔다.

And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

제사장 아론의 손자 엘르아살의 아들 비느하스가 보고 회중의 가운데서 일어나 손에 창을 들고

풀이: 제사장 아론의 손자이자 엘르아살의 아들인 비느하스가 그 광경을 보았다. 그는 회중 가운데서 벌떡 일어나 손에 창을 잡고,

And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;

그 이스라엘 남자를 따라 그의 막에 들어가서 이스라엘 남자와 그 여인의 배를 꿰뚫어서 두 사람을 죽이니 염병이 이스라엘 자손에게서 그쳤더라

풀이: 그 이스라엘 남자를 따라 천막 안으로 들어가, 남자와 여자를 한꺼번에 — 여자의 배까지 — 창으로 꿰뚫었다. 그러자 이스라엘 백성을 휩쓸던 역병이 멈췄다.

And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.

그 염병으로 죽은 자가 이만 사천명이었더라

풀이: 그 역병으로 죽은 사람이 2만 4천 명이었다.

And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.

여호와께서 모세에게 일러 가라사대

풀이: 신이 모세에게 말했다.

And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

제사장 아론의 손자 엘르아살의 아들 비느하스가 나의 질투심으로 질투하여 이스라엘 자손 중에서 나의 노를 돌이켜서 나의 질투심으로 그들을 진멸하지 않게 하였도다

풀이: "제사장 아론의 손자이자 엘르아살의 아들인 비느하스가, 이스라엘 가운데서 나의 질투를 자기 것처럼 불태워, 내 분노를 돌이켰다. 그 덕분에 나는 나의 질투로 이스라엘을 쓸어버리지 않았다."

Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

그러므로 말하라 내가 그에게 나의 평화의 언약을 주리니

풀이: "그러니 그에게 전하여라. 보아라, 내가 그에게 나의 평화의 언약을 준다."

Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:

그와 그 후손에게 영원한 제사장 직분의 언약이라 그가 그 하나님을 위하여 질투하여 이스라엘 자손을 속죄하였음이니라

풀이: "그와 그 후손에게 영원히 이어질 제사장직의 언약이다. 그가 자기 신을 위해 질투를 불태워, 이스라엘을 위한 속죄를 이루었기 때문이다."

And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

죽임을 당한 이스라엘 남자 곧 미디안 여인과 함께 죽임을 당한 자의 이름은 시므리니 살루의 아들이요 시므온인의 종족 중 한 족장이며

풀이: 죽임당한 이스라엘 남자, 곧 미디안 여자와 함께 죽은 그 사람의 이름은 시므리였다. 살루의 아들이며, 시므온 지파의 한 가문을 이끄는 우두머리였다.

Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites.

죽임을 당한 미디안 여인의 이름은 고스비니 수르의 딸이라 수르는 미디안 백성 한 종족의 두령이었더라

풀이: 죽임당한 미디안 여자의 이름은 고스비였다. 수르의 딸이었는데, 수르는 미디안의 한 부족을 다스리는 우두머리였다.

And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian.

여호와께서 모세에게 일러 가라사대

풀이: 신이 모세에게 말했다.

And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

미디안인들을 박해하며 그들을 치라

풀이: "미디안 사람들을 적으로 여겨 쳐라."

Vex the Midianites, and smite them:

이는 그들이 궤계로 너희를 박해하되 브올의 일과 미디안 족장의 딸 곧 브올의 일로 염병이 일어난 날에 죽임을 당한 그들의 자매 고스비의 사건으로 너희를 유혹하였음이니라

풀이: "그들이 술수를 부려 너희를 옭아맸기 때문이다. 브올의 일에서, 또 그들의 자매인 고스비의 일에서 — 브올 때문에 역병이 돌던 날 죽임당한, 미디안 우두머리의 딸 고스비를 미끼로 — 그들이 너희를 꾀어 넘어뜨렸다."

For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor’s sake.
