사사기 18장

그 때에 이스라엘에 왕이 없었고 단 지파는 이 때에 거할 기업의 땅을 구하는 중이었으니 이는 그들이 이스라엘 지파 중에서 이 때까지 기업의 땅 분배함을 얻지 못하였음이라

풀이: 그 무렵에는 이스라엘에 왕이 없었다. 그리고 그 무렵, 단 지파는 자리 잡고 살 땅을 찾는 중이었다. 다른 지파들은 다 몫을 받았는데, 그날까지도 단만은 제 기업의 땅을 받지 못했기 때문이다.

In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.

단 자손이 소라와 에스다올에서부터 자기 온 가족중 용맹 있는 다섯 사람을 보내어 땅을 탐지하고 살피게 하며 그들에게 이르되 너희는 가서 땅을 살펴보라 하매 그들이 에브라임 산지에 가서 미가의 집에 이르러 거기서 유숙하니라

풀이: 그래서 단 자손은 소라와 에스다올에 사는 자기 가문 가운데서 용맹한 다섯 사람을 뽑아, 땅을 정탐하고 살피라며 내보냈다. "가서 그 땅을 살펴보라." 그들은 에브라임 산지로 들어가 미가의 집에 이르러 거기서 하룻밤을 묵었다.

And the children of Dan sent of their family five men from their coasts, men of valour, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said unto them, Go, search the land: who when they came to mount Ephraim, to the house of Micah, they lodged there.

그들이 미가의 집에 가까이 올 때에 레위 소년의 음성을 알아듣고 그리로 돌이켜 가서 그에게 이르되 누가 너를 이리로 인도하였으며 네가 여기서 무엇을 하며 여기서 무엇을 얻었느냐

풀이: 미가의 집 가까이 왔을 때, 그들은 한 젊은 레위인의 목소리를 알아듣고 그쪽으로 발길을 돌렸다. 그러고는 그에게 물었다. "누가 너를 여기로 데려왔느냐? 너는 여기서 무엇을 하고, 무엇을 얻고 있느냐?"

When they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice of the young man the Levite: and they turned in thither, and said unto him, Who brought thee hither? and what makest thou in this place? and what hast thou here?

그가 그들에게 이르되 미가가 여차여차히 나를 대접하여 나를 고빙하여 나로 자기 제사장을 삼았느니라

풀이: 젊은이가 대답했다. "미가가 나를 이러저러하게 대접하고, 품삯을 주어 자기 제사장으로 삼았소."

And he said unto them, Thus and thus dealeth Micah with me, and hath hired me, and I am his priest.

그들이 그에게 이르되 청컨대 우리를 위하여 하나님께 물어보아서 우리의 행하는 길이 형통할는지 우리에게 알게하라

풀이: 그들이 말했다. "그렇다면 우리를 위해 신께 좀 여쭤봐 주시오. 우리가 가는 이 길이 잘 풀릴지 알고 싶소."

And they said unto him, Ask counsel, we pray thee, of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.

그 제사장이 그들에게 이르되 평안히 가라 너희의 행하는 길은 여호와 앞에 있느니라

풀이: 제사장이 그들에게 말했다. "평안히 가시오. 당신들이 가는 길은 신께서 지켜보고 계시오."

And the priest said unto them, Go in peace: before the Lord is your way wherein ye go.

이에 다섯 사람이 떠나 라이스에 이르러 거기 있는 백성을 본즉 염려 없이 거하여 시돈 사람 같이 한가하고 평안하니 그 땅에는 권세 잡은 자가 없어서 무슨 일에든지 괴롭게 함이 없고 시돈 사람과 상거가 멀며 아무 사람과도 상종하지 아니함이라

풀이: 그리하여 다섯 사람은 길을 떠나 라이스에 이르렀다. 그곳 사람들을 보니, 시돈 사람처럼 아무 걱정 없이 한가하고 평온하게 살고 있었다. 그 땅에는 권력을 휘둘러 사람을 괴롭히는 자도 없었다. 게다가 시돈과는 멀리 떨어져 있고, 다른 누구와도 거래나 왕래가 없었다.

Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were therein, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no business with any man.

그들이 소라와 에스다올에 돌아와서 그 형제에게 이르매 형제들이 그들에게 묻되 너희 보기에 어떠하더뇨

풀이: 그들이 소라와 에스다올의 형제들에게 돌아오자, 형제들이 물었다. "너희가 보기엔 어떻더냐?"

And they came unto their brethren to Zorah and Eshtaol: and their brethren said unto them, What say ye?

가로되 일어나서 그들을 치러 올라가자 우리가 그 땅을 본즉 매우 좋더라 너희는 가만히 있느냐 나아가서 그 땅 얻기를 게을리 말라

풀이: 그들이 대답했다. "일어나 그들을 치러 올라가자! 우리가 그 땅을 봤는데, 정말 좋더라. 그런데 너희는 가만히 있을 셈이냐? 어서 가서 그 땅을 차지하기를 게을리하지 마라.

And they said, Arise, that we may go up against them: for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good: and are ye still? be not slothful to go, and to enter to possess the land.

너희가 가면 평안한 백성을 만날 것이요 그 땅은 넓고 그곳에는 세상에 있는 것이 하나도 부족함이 없느니라 하나님이 너희 손에 붙이셨느니라

풀이: 가 보면 아무 의심 없이 사는 백성과 사방으로 넓은 땅을 만날 것이다. 신께서 그곳을 너희 손에 넘겨주셨다. 세상에 있는 것 가운데 무엇 하나 부족함이 없는 땅이다."

When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth.

단 지파 가족 중 육백명이 병기를 띠고 소라와 에스다올에서 출발하여

풀이: 그래서 단 가문 가운데 무장한 600명이 소라와 에스다올에서 출발했다.

And there went from thence of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men appointed with weapons of war.

올라가서 유다 기럇여아림에 진치니 이러므로 그곳 이름이 오늘까지 마하네단이며 그곳은 기럇여아림 뒤에 있더라

풀이: 그들은 올라가 유다 땅 기럇여아림에 진을 쳤다. 그래서 그곳을 오늘날까지 마하네단이라 부른다. 그곳은 기럇여아림 서쪽에 있다.

And they went up, and pitched in Kirjath–jearim, in Judah: wherefore they called that place Mahaneh–dan unto this day: behold, it is behind Kirjath–jearim.

무리가 거기서 떠나서 에브라임 산지 미가의 집에 이르니라

풀이: 거기서 다시 길을 떠나 에브라임 산지의 미가의 집에 이르렀다.

And they passed thence unto mount Ephraim, and came unto the house of Micah.

전에 라이스 땅을 탐지하러 갔던 다섯 사람이 그 형제들에게 말하여 가로되 이 집에 에봇과 드라빔과 새긴 신상과 부어만든 신상이 있는줄을 너희가 아느냐 그런즉 이제 너희는 마땅히 행할 것을 생각하라 하고

풀이: 전에 라이스 땅을 정탐하러 갔던 다섯 사람이 형제들에게 말했다. "이 집에 에봇과 드라빔과 새겨 만든 신상과 부어 만든 신상이 있는 걸 너희는 아느냐? 그러니 이제 어떻게 할지 잘 생각해 보라."

Then answered the five men that went to spy out the country of Laish, and said unto their brethren, Do ye know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and a graven image, and a molten image? now therefore consider what ye have to do.

다섯 사람이 그 편으로 향하여 소년 레위 사람의 집 곧 미가의 집에 이르러 문안하고

풀이: 그들은 그쪽으로 발길을 돌려 젊은 레위인의 거처, 곧 미가의 집에 이르러 그에게 인사를 건넸다.

And they turned thitherward, and came to the house of the young man the Levite, even unto the house of Micah, and saluted him.

단 자손 육백명은 병기를 띠고 문 입구에 서니라

풀이: 무장한 단 자손 600명은 대문 어귀에 늘어서 있었다.

And the six hundred men appointed with their weapons of war, which were of the children of Dan, stood by the entering of the gate.

땅을 탐지하러 갔던 다섯 사람이 그리로 들어가서 새긴 신상과 에봇과 드라빔과 부어만든 신상을 취할 때에 제사장은 병기를 띤 육백명과 함께 문 입구에 섰더니

풀이: 땅을 정탐하러 갔던 다섯 사람은 안으로 들어가 새긴 신상과 에봇과 드라빔과 부어 만든 신상을 챙겨 나왔다. 그동안 제사장은 무장한 600명과 함께 대문 어귀에 서 있었다.

And the five men that went to spy out the land went up, and came in thither, and took the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image: and the priest stood in the entering of the gate with the six hundred men that were appointed with weapons of war.

그 다섯 사람이 미가의 집에 들어가서 그 새긴 신상과 에봇과 드라빔과 부어만든 신상을 취하여 내매 제사장이 그들에게 묻되 너희가 무엇을 하느냐

풀이: 다섯 사람이 미가의 집에 들어가 새긴 신상과 에봇과 드라빔과 부어 만든 신상을 들고 나오자, 제사장이 그들에게 물었다. "지금 무슨 짓을 하는 거요?"

And these went into Micah’s house, and fetched the carved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image. Then said the priest unto them, What do ye?

그들이 그에게 이르되 잠잠하라 네 손을 입에 대라 우리와 함께 가서 우리의 아비와 제사장이 되라 네가 한 사람의 집의 제사장이 되는 것과 이스라엘 한 지파, 한 가족의 제사장이 되는 것이 어느 것이 낫겠느냐

풀이: 그들이 대답했다. "잠자코 있으시오. 입에 손을 대고 우리와 함께 갑시다. 우리의 어른이자 제사장이 되어 주시오. 한 사람의 집안 제사장으로 사는 것과, 이스라엘의 한 지파, 한 가문 전체의 제사장이 되는 것 중에 어느 쪽이 낫겠소?"

And they said unto him, Hold thy peace, lay thine hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for thee to be a priest unto the house of one man, or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel?

제사장이 마음에 기뻐하여 에봇과 드라빔과 새긴 우상을 취하고 그 백성 중으로 들어가니라

풀이: 제사장은 속으로 기뻐했다. 그는 에봇과 드라빔과 새긴 신상을 챙겨 들고 그 무리 한가운데로 끼어들었다.

And the priest’s heart was glad, and he took the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and went in the midst of the people.

그들이 돌이켜서 어린 아이들과 가축과 물품을 앞에 두고 진행하더니

풀이: 그들은 발길을 돌려 떠났다. 아이들과 가축과 짐을 앞세우고 행렬을 꾸렸다.

So they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle and the carriage before them.

미가의 집을 멀리 떠난 때에 미가의 이웃집 사람들이 모여서 단 자손을 따라 미쳐서는

풀이: 미가의 집에서 한참 멀어졌을 무렵, 미가의 이웃집 사람들이 모여들어 단 자손을 뒤쫓아 따라붙었다.

And when they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men that were in the houses near to Micah’s house were gathered together, and overtook the children of Dan.

단 자손을 부르는지라 그들이 낯을 돌이켜 미가에게 이르되 네가 무슨 일로 이같이 모아가지고 왔느냐

풀이: 그들이 단 자손을 소리쳐 부르자, 단 자손은 얼굴을 돌려 미가에게 말했다. "무슨 일이기에 이렇게 떼를 지어 쫓아왔소?"

And they cried unto the children of Dan. And they turned their faces, and said unto Micah, What aileth thee, that thou comest with such a company?

미가가 가로되 나의 지은 신들과 제사장을 취하여 갔으니 내게 오히려 있는 것이 무엇이냐 너희가 어찌하여 나더러 무슨 일이냐 하느냐

풀이: 미가가 말했다. "당신들은 내가 만든 신들을 가져가고, 제사장까지 데려가 버렸소. 이제 내게 무엇이 남았소? 그래 놓고 어찌 나더러 무슨 일이냐고 묻는 거요?"

And he said, Ye have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and ye are gone away: and what have I more? and what is this that ye say unto me, What aileth thee?

단 자손이 그에게 이르되 네 목소리를 우리에게 들리게 말라 노한 자들이 너희를 쳐서 네 생명과 네 가족의 생명을 잃게 할까 하노라 하고

풀이: 단 자손이 그에게 말했다. "우리 앞에서 더는 그 목소리를 높이지 마시오. 성난 자들이 당신들을 덮쳐서 당신과 당신 식구의 목숨을 잃게 할까 걱정이오."

And the children of Dan said unto him, Let not thy voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows run upon thee, and thou lose thy life, with the lives of thy household.

단 자손이 자기 길을 행한지라 미가가 단 자손이 자기보다 강한 것을 보고 돌이켜 집으로 돌아갔더라

풀이: 그러고는 단 자손이 제 갈 길을 가 버렸다. 미가는 그들이 자기보다 강한 것을 보고는 돌아서서 집으로 돌아갔다.

And the children of Dan went their way: and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back unto his house.

단 자손이 미가의 지은 것과 그 제사장을 취하고 라이스에 이르러 한가하고 평안한 백성을 만나 칼날로 그들을 치며 불로 그 성읍을 사르되

풀이: 단 자손은 미가가 만든 것과 그가 두었던 제사장을 데리고 라이스에 이르렀다. 한가하고 평온하게 사는 백성을 덮쳐 칼로 쳐 죽이고, 성읍을 불살랐다.

And they took the things which Micah had made, and the priest which he had, and came unto Laish, unto a people that were at quiet and secure: and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and burnt the city with fire.

그들을 구원할 자가 없었으니 그 성읍이 베드르홉 가까운 골짜기에 있어서 시돈과 상거가 멀고 상종하는 사람도 없음이었더라 단 자손이 성읍을 중건하고 거기 거하며

풀이: 그들을 구하러 올 자는 아무도 없었다. 그 성읍은 벧르홉 가까운 골짜기에 있어 시돈과 멀리 떨어졌고, 누구와도 왕래가 없었기 때문이다. 단 자손은 그 성읍을 다시 세우고 거기에 자리 잡고 살았다.

And there was no deliverer, because it was far from Zidon, and they had no business with any man; and it was in the valley that lieth by Beth–rehob. And they built a city, and dwelt therein.

이스라엘의 소생 그 조상 단의 이름을 따라 그 성읍을 단이라 하니라 그 성읍의 본 이름은 라이스더라

풀이: 그들은 이스라엘에게서 태어난 조상 단의 이름을 따서 그 성읍을 단이라 불렀다. 그 성읍의 본디 이름은 라이스였다.

And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel: howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first.

단 자손이 자기를 위하여 그 새긴 신상을 세웠고 모세의 손자 게르손의 아들 요나단과 그 자손은 단 지파의 제사장이 되어 이 백성이 사로잡히는 날까지 이르렀더라

풀이: 단 자손은 그 새긴 신상을 자기들을 위해 세웠다. 그리고 모세의 손자, 게르솜의 아들 요나단과 그 자손이 그 땅이 사로잡혀 끌려가는 날까지 단 지파의 제사장 노릇을 했다.

And the children of Dan set up the graven image: and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.

하나님의 집이 실로에 있을 동안에 미가의 지은바 새긴 신상이 단 자손에게 있었더라

풀이: 신의 집이 실로에 있던 그 모든 기간 동안, 미가가 만든 그 새긴 신상이 단 자손에게 그대로 서 있었다.

And they set them up Micah’s graven image, which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.
