사사기 1장

여호수아가 죽은 후에 이스라엘 자손이 여호와께 묻자와 가로되 우리 중 누가 먼저 올라가서 가나안 사람과 싸우리이까

풀이: 여호수아가 죽은 뒤였다. 이스라엘 자손이 신에게 물었다. "우리 가운데 누가 먼저 올라가 가나안 사람과 싸워야 합니까?"

Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

여호와께서 가라사대 유다가 올라갈찌니라 보라 내가 이 땅을 그 손에 붙였노라 하시니라

풀이: 신이 답했다. "유다가 올라가라. 보라, 내가 이 땅을 이미 그의 손에 넘겨주었다."

And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

유다가 그 형제 시므온에게 이르되 나의 제비 뽑아 얻은 땅에 나와 함께 올라가서 가나안 사람과 싸우자 그리하면 나도 너의 제비 뽑아 얻은 땅에 함께 가리라 이에 시므온이 그와 함께 가니라

풀이: 유다가 형제 시므온에게 말했다. "내가 제비로 받은 땅으로 함께 올라가 가나안 사람과 싸우자. 그러면 나도 네가 제비로 받은 땅에 함께 가 주겠다." 그래서 시므온이 그와 함께 갔다.

And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

유다가 올라가매 여호와께서 가나안 사람과 브리스 사람을 그들의 손에 붙이신지라 그들이 베섹에서 일만명을 죽이고

풀이: 유다가 올라가자 신이 가나안 사람과 브리스 사람을 그들의 손에 넘겨주었다. 그들은 베섹에서 1만 명을 쳐 죽였다.

And Judah went up; and the Lord delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

또 베섹에서 아도니 베섹을 만나서 그와 싸워 가나안 사람과 브리스 사람을 죽이니

풀이: 베섹에서 아도니 베섹과 마주쳐 싸웠고, 가나안 사람과 브리스 사람을 죽였다.

And they found Adoni–bezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

아도니 베섹이 도망하는지라 그를 쫓아가서 잡아 그 수족의 엄지가락을 끊으매

풀이: 아도니 베섹이 달아나자 뒤쫓아 붙잡고는, 그의 두 손 엄지와 두 발 엄지를 잘라 버렸다.

But Adoni–bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.

아도니 베섹이 가로되 옛적에 칠십 왕이 그 수족의 엄지가락을 찍히고 내 상 아래서 먹을 것을 줍더니 하나님이 나의 행한대로 내게 갚으심이로다 하니라 무리가 그를 끌고 예루살렘에 이르렀더니 그가 거기서 죽었더라

풀이: 아도니 베섹이 말했다. "예전에 일흔 명의 왕이 손발 엄지가 잘린 채 내 상 밑에서 떨어진 음식을 주워 먹었다. 내가 한 그대로 신이 내게 갚으셨구나." 사람들이 그를 끌고 예루살렘으로 갔고, 그는 거기서 죽었다.

And Adoni–bezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

유다 자손이 예루살렘을 쳐서 취하여 칼날로 치고 성을 불살랐으며

풀이: 유다 자손이 예루살렘을 쳐서 빼앗고, 칼로 도륙한 뒤 성에 불을 질렀다.

Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.

그 후에 유다 자손이 내려가서 산지와 남방과 평지에 거한 가나안 사람과 싸웠고

풀이: 그 뒤 유다 자손은 산지와 남쪽 네겝 지방과 평지에 사는 가나안 사람과 싸우러 내려갔다.

And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.

유다가 또 가서 헤브론에 거한 가나안 사람을 쳐서 세새와 아히만과 달매를 죽였더라 헤브론의 본 이름은 기럇 아르바이었더라

풀이: 유다는 헤브론에 사는 가나안 사람도 쳐서 세새와 아히만과 달매를 죽였다. 헤브론의 옛 이름은 기럇 아르바였다.

And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjath–arba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

거기서 나아가서 드빌의 거민들을 쳤으니 드빌의 본 이름은 기럇 세벨이라

풀이: 거기서 더 나아가 드빌 주민들을 쳤다. 드빌의 옛 이름은 기럇 세벨이었다.

And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath–sepher:

갈렙이 말하기를 기럇 세벨을 쳐서 그것을 취하는 자에게는 내 딸 악사를 아내로 주리라 하였더니

풀이: 갈렙이 말했다. "기럇 세벨을 쳐서 빼앗는 자에게 내 딸 악사를 아내로 주겠다."

And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath–sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

갈렙의 아우요 그나스의 아들인 옷니엘이 그것을 취한고로 갈렙이 그 딸 악사를 그에게 아내로 주었더라

풀이: 갈렙의 아우 그나스의 아들 옷니엘이 그곳을 빼앗자, 갈렙이 딸 악사를 그에게 아내로 주었다.

And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

악사가 출가할 때에 그에게 청하여 자기 아비에게 밭을 구하자 하고 나귀에서 내리매 갈렙이 묻되 네가 무엇을 원하느냐

풀이: 악사가 시집갈 때, 남편을 졸라 자기 아버지에게 밭을 청하게 했다. 그러고는 나귀에서 내리자 갈렙이 물었다. "무엇을 원하느냐?"

And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?

가로되 내게 복을 주소서 아버지께서 나를 남방으로 보내시니 샘물도 내게 주소서 하매 갈렙이 윗샘과 아랫샘을 그에게 주었더라

풀이: 악사가 말했다. "제게 복을 주십시오. 아버지께서 저를 메마른 남쪽 땅으로 보내셨으니, 샘물도 주십시오." 그러자 갈렙은 윗샘과 아랫샘을 함께 주었다.

And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

모세의 장인은 겐 사람이라 그 자손이 유다 자손과 함께 종려나무 성읍에서 올라가서 아랏 남방의 유다 황무지에 이르러 그 백성 중에 거하니라

풀이: 모세의 장인은 겐 사람이었다. 그 자손이 유다 자손과 함께 종려나무 성읍에서 올라가, 아랏 남쪽 유다 광야에 이르러 그 백성 가운데 자리 잡고 살았다.

And the children of the Kenite, Moses’ father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.

유다가 그 형제 시므온과 함께 가서 스밧에 거한 가나안 사람을 쳐서 그곳을 진멸하였으므로 그 성읍 이름을 호르마라 하니라

풀이: 유다는 형제 시므온과 함께 가서 스밧에 사는 가나안 사람을 쳤고, 그 성읍을 완전히 진멸했다. 그래서 그 성읍의 이름을 호르마라 불렀다.

And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

유다가 또 가사와 그 경내와 아스글론과 그 경내와 에그론과 그 경내를 취하였고

풀이: 유다는 또 가사와 그 일대, 아스글론과 그 일대, 에그론과 그 일대를 빼앗았다.

Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.

여호와께서 유다와 함께 하신 고로 그가 산지 거민을 쫓아내었으나 골짜기의 거민들은 철병거가 있으므로 그들을 쫓아내지 못하였으며

풀이: 신이 유다와 함께했으므로 유다는 산지의 주민을 몰아냈다. 그러나 골짜기의 주민들은 쇠로 만든 전차를 가지고 있어서 몰아내지 못했다.

And the Lord was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

무리가 모세의 명한대로 헤브론을 갈렙에게 주었더니 그가 거기서 아낙의 세 아들을 쫓아내었고

풀이: 사람들은 모세가 명한 대로 헤브론을 갈렙에게 주었고, 갈렙은 거기서 아낙의 세 아들을 몰아냈다.

And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.

베냐민 자손은 예루살렘에 거한 여부스 사람을 쫓아내지 못하였으므로 여부스 사람이 베냐민 자손과 함께 오늘날까지 예루살렘에 거하더라

풀이: 베냐민 자손은 예루살렘에 사는 여부스 사람을 몰아내지 못했다. 그래서 여부스 사람은 오늘날까지 베냐민 자손과 함께 예루살렘에 살고 있다.

And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.

요셉 족속도 벧엘을 치러 올라가니 여호와께서 그와 함께 하시니라

풀이: 요셉 가문도 벧엘을 치러 올라갔고, 신이 그들과 함께했다.

And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Beth–el: and the Lord was with them.

요셉 족속이 벧엘을 정탐케 하였는데 그 성읍의 본 이름은 루스라

풀이: 요셉 가문이 벧엘을 정탐하게 했다. 그 성읍의 옛 이름은 루스였다.

And the house of Joseph sent to descry Beth–el. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)

탐정이 그 성읍에서 한 사람의 나오는 것을 보고 그에게 이르되 청하노니 이 성읍의 입구를 우리에게 가르치라 그리하면 너를 선대하리라 하매

풀이: 정탐꾼들이 성에서 나오는 한 사람을 보고 그에게 말했다. "이 성으로 들어가는 길을 우리에게 알려 다오. 그러면 너를 잘 대접하겠다."

And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.

그 사람이 성읍의 입구를 가르친지라 이에 칼날로 그 성읍을 쳤으되 오직 그 사람과 그 가족을 놓아 보내매

풀이: 그가 들어가는 길을 알려 주자, 그들은 칼로 그 성을 쳤지만 그 사람과 온 가족만은 놓아 보냈다.

And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.

그 사람이 헷 사람의 땅에 가서 성읍을 건축하고 그 이름을 루스라 하였더니 오늘날까지 그곳의 이름이더라

풀이: 그 사람은 헷 사람의 땅으로 가서 성읍을 세우고 그 이름을 루스라 불렀다. 오늘날까지도 그곳의 이름이다.

And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.

므낫세가 벧스안과 그 향리의 거민과 다아낙과 그 향리의 거민과 돌과 그 향리의 거민과 이블르암과 그 향리의 거민과 므깃도와 그 향리의 거민들을 쫓아내지 못하매 가나안 사람이 결심하고 그 땅에 거하였더니

풀이: 므낫세는 벧스안과 그 둘레 마을, 다아낙과 그 둘레 마을, 돌과 그 둘레 마을, 이블르암과 그 둘레 마을, 므깃도와 그 둘레 마을의 주민을 몰아내지 못했다. 가나안 사람은 기어이 그 땅에 눌러앉았다.

Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Beth–shean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

이스라엘이 강성한 후에야 가나안 사람에게 사역을 시켰고 다 쫓아내지 아니하였더라

풀이: 이스라엘은 세력이 강해진 뒤에야 가나안 사람에게 강제 노역을 시켰을 뿐, 끝내 다 몰아내지는 못했다.

And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.

에브라임이 게셀에 거한 가나안 사람을 쫓아내지 못하매 가나안 사람이 게셀에서 그들 중에 거하였더라

풀이: 에브라임은 게셀에 사는 가나안 사람을 몰아내지 못했다. 그래서 가나안 사람이 게셀에서 그들 가운데 섞여 살았다.

Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.

스불론은 기드론 거민과 나할롤 거민을 쫓아내지 못하였으나 가나안 사람이 그들 중에 거하여 사역을 하였더라

풀이: 스불론은 기드론 주민과 나할롤 주민을 몰아내지 못했다. 가나안 사람은 그들 가운데 살며 강제 노역을 했다.

Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.

아셀이 악고 거민과 시돈 거민과 알랍과 악십과 헬바와 아빅과 르홉 거민을 쫓아내지 못하고

풀이: 아셀은 악고 주민과 시돈 주민, 그리고 알랍과 악십과 헬바와 아빅과 르홉 주민을 몰아내지 못했다.

Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:

그 땅 거민 가나안 사람 가운데 거하였으니 이는 쫓아내지 못함이었더라

풀이: 그래서 아셀 사람은 그 땅의 주민인 가나안 사람 가운데 섞여 살았다. 그들을 몰아내지 못했기 때문이다.

But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.

납달리가 벧세메스 거민과 벧아낫 거민을 쫓아내지 못하고 그 땅 거민 가나안 사람 가운데 거하였으나 벧세메스와 벧아낫 거민들이 그들에게 사역을 하였더라

풀이: 납달리는 벧세메스 주민과 벧아낫 주민을 몰아내지 못하고 그 땅의 가나안 사람 가운데 섞여 살았다. 다만 벧세메스와 벧아낫 주민은 그들에게 강제 노역을 했다.

Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Beth–shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth–anath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth–shemesh and of Beth–anath became tributaries unto them.

아모리 사람이 단 자손을 산지로 쫓아들이고 골짜기에 내려오기를 용납지 아니하고

풀이: 아모리 사람은 단 자손을 산지로 몰아붙이고, 골짜기로 내려오지 못하게 막았다.

And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:

결심하고 헤레스산과 아얄론과 사알빔에 거하였더니 요셉 족속이 강성하매 아모리 사람이 필경은 사역을 하였으며

풀이: 아모리 사람은 기어이 헤레스 산과 아얄론과 사알빔에 눌러앉았다. 그러나 요셉 가문의 세력이 강해지자, 결국 그들에게 강제 노역을 하게 되었다.

But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.

아모리 사람의 지계는 아그랍빔 비탈의 바위부터 그 위였더라

풀이: 아모리 사람의 경계는 아그랍빔 비탈의 바위에서부터 그 위쪽이었다.

And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
