여호수아 11장

하솔 왕 야빈이 이 소식을 듣고 마돈 왕 요밥과 시므론 왕과 악삽 왕과

풀이: 하솔의 왕 야빈이 그 소식을 들었다. 그는 곧 마돈의 왕 요밥과 시므론 왕, 악삽 왕에게 사람을 보냈다.

And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor had heard those things, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,

및 북방 산지와 긴네롯 남편 아라바와 평지와 서방 돌의 높은 곳에 있는 왕들과

풀이: 그리고 북쪽 산지의 왕들, 긴네렛 남쪽 아라바와 평지의 왕들, 서쪽 돌 고지대의 왕들에게도 사람을 보냈다.

And to the kings that were on the north of the mountains, and of the plains south of Chinneroth, and in the valley, and in the borders of Dor on the west,

동서편 가나안 사람과 아모리 사람과 헷 사람과 브리스 사람과 산지의 여부스 사람과 미스바 땅 헤르몬산 아래 히위 사람들에게 사람을 보내매

풀이: 동쪽과 서쪽의 가나안 사람, 아모리·헷·브리스 사람, 산지에 사는 여부스 사람, 그리고 헤르몬산 기슭 미스바 땅의 히위 사람에게까지 두루 보냈다.

And to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and to the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the mountains, and to the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpeh.

그들이 그 모든 군대를 거느리고 나왔으니 민중이 많아 해변의 수다한 모래 같고 말과 병거도 심히 많았으며

풀이: 그들이 저마다 군대를 이끌고 나왔다. 그 무리가 해변의 모래알처럼 많았고, 말과 병거도 헤아릴 수 없이 많았다.

And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many.

이 왕들이 모여 나아와서 이스라엘과 싸우려고 메롬 물가에 함께 진 쳤더라

풀이: 이 왕들이 모두 한자리에 모여, 이스라엘과 싸우려고 메롬 물가에 함께 진을 쳤다.

And when all these kings were met together, they came and pitched together at the waters of Merom, to fight against Israel.

여호와께서 여호수아에게 이르시되 그들을 인하여 두려워 말라 내일 이맘때에 내가 그들을 이스라엘 앞에 붙여 몰살시키리니 너는 그들의 말 뒷발의 힘줄을 끊고 불로 그 병거를 사르라

풀이: 신이 여호수아에게 말했다. "저들을 두려워하지 마라. 내일 이맘때, 내가 저들을 모조리 이스라엘 앞에 시체로 넘겨주겠다. 너는 저들의 말 뒷발 힘줄을 끊고, 병거는 불로 태워 버려라."

And the Lord said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

이에 여호수아가 모든 군사와 함께 메롬 물가로 가서 졸지에 습격할 때에

풀이: 여호수아는 모든 군사를 거느리고 메롬 물가로 가, 느닷없이 들이쳤다.

So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly; and they fell upon them.

여호와께서 그들을 이스라엘의 손에 붙이신고로 그들을 격파하고 큰 시돈과 미스르봇 마임까지 쫓고 동편에서는 미스바 골짜기까지 쫓아가서 한 사람도 남기지 아니하고 쳐죽이고

풀이: 신이 그들을 이스라엘의 손에 넘겨주었다. 이스라엘은 그들을 쳐부수고, 멀리 시돈과 미스르봇마임까지, 동쪽으로는 미스바 골짜기까지 쫓아가 한 사람도 남기지 않고 쳐 죽였다.

And the Lord delivered them into the hand of Israel, who smote them, and chased them unto great Zidon, and unto Misrephoth–maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining.

여호수아가 여호와께서 자기에게 명하신대로 행하여 그들의 말 뒷발의 힘줄을 끊고 불로 그 병거를 살랐더라

풀이: 여호수아는 신이 명령한 그대로, 그들의 말 뒷발 힘줄을 끊고 병거를 불로 태웠다.

And Joshua did unto them as the Lord bade him: he houghed their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.

하솔은 본래 그 모든 나라의 머리였더니 그때에 여호수아가 돌아와서 하솔을 취하고 그 왕을 칼날로 쳐 죽이고

풀이: 하솔은 본래 그 모든 왕국의 우두머리였다. 여호수아는 돌아와 하솔을 함락하고, 그 왕을 칼로 쳐 죽였다.

And Joshua at that time turned back, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor beforetime was the head of all those kingdoms.

그 가운데 모든 사람을 칼날로 쳐서 진멸하여 호흡이 있는 자는 하나도 남기지 아니하였고 또 불로 하솔을 살랐으며

풀이: 성안의 모든 사람을 칼로 쳐서 남김없이 죽였다. 숨 쉬는 자가 하나도 남지 않았다. 그러고는 하솔에 불을 질렀다.

And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them: there was not any left to breathe: and he burnt Hazor with fire.

여호수아가 그 왕들의 모든 성읍과 그 모든 왕을 취하여 칼날로 쳐서 진멸하여 여호와의 종 모세의 명한 것과 같이 하였으되

풀이: 여호수아는 그 왕들의 성읍과 왕을 모두 함락해, 신의 종 모세가 명령한 그대로 칼로 쳐서 남김없이 없앴다.

And all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, did Joshua take, and smote them with the edge of the sword, and he utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the Lord commanded.

여호수아가 하솔만 불살랐고 산 위에 건축된 성읍들은 이스라엘이 불사르지 아니하였으며

풀이: 다만 언덕 위에 세워진 성읍들은 이스라엘이 태우지 않았다. 불태운 것은 하솔 하나뿐이었다.

But as for the cities that stood still in their strength, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor only; that did Joshua burn.

이 성읍들의 모든 재물과 가축은 이스라엘 자손들이 탈취하고 모든 사람은 칼날로 쳐서 진멸하여 호흡이 있는 자는 하나도 남기지 아니하였으니

풀이: 이 성읍들에서 거둔 재물과 가축은 이스라엘 자손이 전리품으로 챙겼다. 그러나 사람은 모두 칼로 쳐서 없앴고, 숨 쉬는 자를 하나도 남기지 않았다.

And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any to breathe.

여호와께서 그종 모세에게 명하신 것을 모세는 여호수아에게 명하였고 여호수아는 그대로 행하여 여호와께서 무릇 모세에게 명하신 것을 하나도 행치 아니한 것이 없었더라

풀이: 신이 자기 종 모세에게 명령한 것을 모세가 여호수아에게 전했고, 여호수아는 그대로 행했다. 신이 모세에게 명령한 것 가운데 행하지 않은 것이 하나도 없었다.

As the Lord commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses.

여호수아가 이같이 그 온 땅 곧 산지와 온 남방과 고센 온 땅과 평지와 아라바와 이스라엘의 산지와 그 평지를 취하였으니

풀이: 이렇게 여호수아는 그 온 땅 — 산지와 남방 전역, 고센 온 땅, 평지와 아라바, 이스라엘 산지와 그 평지를 손에 넣었다.

So Joshua took all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same;

곧 세일로 올라가는 할락산에서부터 헤르몬산 아래 레바논 골짜기의 바알갓까지라 그 모든 왕을 잡아 쳐죽였으며

풀이: 세일로 올라가는 할락산에서부터 헤르몬산 기슭 레바논 골짜기의 바알갓까지였다. 그 모든 왕을 사로잡아 쳐 죽였다.

Even from the mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baal–gad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon: and all their kings he took, and smote them, and slew them.

여호수아가 그 모든 왕과 싸운지는 여러 날이라

풀이: 여호수아가 이 모든 왕과 싸운 기간은 여러 해에 걸친 오랜 전쟁이었다.

Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.

기브온 거민 히위 사람 외에는 이스라엘 자손과 화친한 성읍이 하나도 없고 다 이스라엘 자손에게 쳐서 취한바 되었으니

풀이: 기브온에 사는 히위 사람 말고는, 이스라엘과 화친을 맺은 성읍이 하나도 없었다. 나머지는 모두 싸워서 함락한 것이었다.

There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: all other they took in battle.

그들의 마음이 강퍅하여 이스라엘을 대적하여 싸우러 온 것은 여호와께서 그리하게 하신 것이라 그들로 저주 받은 자 되게 하여 은혜를 입지 못하게 하시고 여호와께서 모세에게 명하신대로 진멸하려 하심이었더라

풀이: 그들의 마음이 굳어져 이스라엘에 맞서 싸우러 나온 것은, 신이 그렇게 되게 한 것이었다. 그들을 가차 없이 진멸하고 자비를 베풀지 않으려는 뜻 — 신이 모세에게 명령한 그대로 없애려는 것이었다.

For it was of the Lord to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the Lord commanded Moses.

그 때에 여호수아가 가서 산지와 헤브론과 드빌과 아납과 유다 온 산지와 이스라엘의 온 산지에서 아낙 사람을 멸절하고 그가 또 그 성읍들을 진멸하였으므로

풀이: 그 무렵 여호수아는 산지로 가, 헤브론과 드빌과 아납, 유다 온 산지와 이스라엘 온 산지에서 아낙 자손을 멸절시켰다. 그들의 성읍까지 남김없이 없앴다.

And at that time came Joshua, and cut off the Anakims from the mountains, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel: Joshua destroyed them utterly with their cities.

이스라엘 자손의 땅 안에는 아낙 사람이 하나도 남음이 없고 가사와 가드와 아스돗에만 약간 남았었더라

풀이: 이스라엘 자손의 땅 안에는 아낙 자손이 하나도 남지 않았다. 다만 가사와 가드와 아스돗에만 얼마쯤 남았을 뿐이다.

There was none of the Anakims left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, there remained.

이와 같이 여호수아가 여호와께서 모세에게 이르신 말씀대로 그 온 땅을 취하여 이스라엘 지파의 구별을 따라 기업으로 주었더라 그 땅에 전쟁이 그쳤더라

풀이: 이렇게 여호수아는 신이 모세에게 일러둔 그대로 온 땅을 손에 넣어, 이스라엘 지파의 구분을 따라 몫몫이 나눠 주었다. 그리하여 그 땅에서 전쟁이 그쳤다.

So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.
