이사야 34장

열국이여 너희는 나아와 들을찌어다 민족들이여 귀를 기울일찌어다 땅과 땅에 충만한 것, 세계와 세계에서 나는 모든 것이여 들을찌어다

풀이: 민족들아, 가까이 다가와 들어라. 백성들아, 귀를 기울여라. 땅아, 그리고 땅을 채운 모든 것아, 세계와 거기서 나는 모든 것아, 들어라.

Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come forth of it.

대저 여호와께서 만국을 향하여 진노하시며 그들의 만군을 향하여 분내사 그들을 진멸하시며 살륙케 하셨은즉

풀이: 신이 모든 민족을 향해 진노했고 그들의 온 군대를 향해 분을 쏟았다. 신은 그들을 송두리째 멸하라 작정하고, 도살장으로 넘겨 버렸다.

For the indignation of the Lord is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter.

그 살륙 당한 자는 내어던진바 되며 그 사체의 악취가 솟아오르고 그 피에 산들이 녹을 것이며

풀이: 죽임당한 자들은 그대로 내던져지고, 그 주검에서 악취가 솟아오른다. 산들은 그들이 흘린 피로 녹아내릴 것이다.

Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcases, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood.

하늘의 만상이 사라지고 하늘들이 두루마리 같이 말리되 그 만상의 쇠잔함이 포도나무 잎이 마름 같고 무화과나무 잎이 마름 같으리라

풀이: 하늘의 모든 별 무리가 스러지고, 하늘은 두루마리처럼 둘둘 말려 든다. 그 모든 무리가 떨어지는 모습이, 포도덩굴에서 잎이 시들어 떨어지듯, 무화과나무에서 마른 열매가 떨어지듯 하리라.

And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.

여호와의 칼이 하늘에서 족하게 마셨은즉 보라 이것이 에돔 위에 내리며 멸망으로 정한 백성 위에 내려서 그를 심판할 것이라

풀이: 신의 칼이 저 하늘에서 실컷 마셨다. 보라, 그 칼이 이제 에돔 위로, 멸망하도록 정해진 백성 위로 내려와 심판할 것이다.

For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment.

여호와의 칼이 피 곧 어린 양과 염소의 피에 만족하고 기름 곧 수양의 콩팥 기름에 윤택하니 이는 여호와께서 보스라에서 희생을 내시며 에돔 땅에서 큰 살륙을 행하심이라

풀이: 신의 칼이 피로, 어린 양과 염소의 피로 흥건하고, 기름으로, 숫양의 콩팥 기름으로 번들거린다. 신이 보스라에서 희생제물을 잡고, 에돔 땅에서 큰 도살을 벌이기 때문이다.

The sword of the Lord is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the Lord hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.

들소와 송아지와 수소가 한 가지로 도살장에 내려가니 그들의 땅이 피에 취하며 흙이 기름으로 윤택하리라

풀이: 들소도, 송아지도, 힘센 황소도 함께 도살장으로 끌려 내려간다. 그들의 땅은 피에 흠뻑 젖고, 흙은 기름으로 번들거릴 것이다.

And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.

이것은 여호와의 보수할 날이요 시온의 송사를 위하여 신원하실 해라

풀이: 이날은 신이 원수를 갚는 날이요, 시온의 송사를 가려 되갚아 주는 해다.

For it is the day of the Lord’s vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.

에돔의 시내들은 변하여 역청이 되고 그 티끌은 유황이 되고 그 땅은 불 붙는 역청이 되며

풀이: 에돔의 시냇물은 끓는 역청으로 변하고, 그 흙먼지는 유황이 되며, 온 땅이 불타는 역청이 되리라.

And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch.

낮에나 밤에나 꺼지지 않고 그 연기가 끊임 없이 떠오를 것이며 세세에 황무하여 그리로 지날 자가 영영히 없겠고

풀이: 밤에도 낮에도 그 불은 꺼지지 않고, 연기가 끊임없이 피어오른다. 대대로 폐허로 누워 있어, 영영토록 그 땅을 지나갈 자가 없을 것이다.

It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.

당아와 고슴도치가 그 땅을 차지하며 부엉이와 까마귀가 거기 거할 것이라 여호와께서 혼란의 줄과 공허의 추를 에돔에 베푸실 것인즉

풀이: 사다새와 고슴도치가 그 땅을 차지하고, 부엉이와 까마귀가 거기 깃들 것이다. 신이 그 위에 '혼돈'의 측량줄을 늘이고 '공허'의 추를 드리울 것이기 때문이다.

But the cormorant and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: and he shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness.

그들이 국가를 이으려 하여 귀인들을 부르되 아무도 없겠고 그 모든 방백도 없게 될 것이요

풀이: 나라를 이으려고 귀족들을 불러도 거기엔 아무도 없고, 그 모든 고관도 한낱 없는 것이 되고 말 것이다.

They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing.

그 궁궐에는 가시나무가 나며 그 견고한 성에는 엉겅퀴와 새품이 자라서 시랑의 굴과 타조의 처소가 될 것이니

풀이: 그 궁궐에는 가시나무가 돋고, 그 견고하던 요새에는 쐐기풀과 엉겅퀴가 자라난다. 그곳은 자칼의 굴이 되고, 타조가 깃드는 마당이 되리라.

And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an habitation of dragons, and a court for owls.

들짐승이 이리와 만나며 수염소가 그 동류를 부르며 올빼미가 거기 거하여 쉬는 처소를 삼으며

풀이: 사막의 들짐승이 하이에나와 마주치고, 숫염소가 제 짝을 부른다. 밤의 괴물이 거기 내려앉아 쉴 자리를 찾을 것이다.

The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest.

부엉이가 거기 깃들이고 알을 낳아 까서 그 그늘에 모으며 솔개들도 그 짝과 함께 거기 모이리라

풀이: 거기서 화살뱀이 둥지를 틀어 알을 낳고 까서 제 그늘 아래 새끼를 모으며, 솔개들도 저마다 짝을 지어 거기 모여들 것이다.

There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with her mate.

너희는 여호와의 책을 자세히 읽어보라 이것들이 하나도 빠진 것이 없고 하나도 그 짝이 없는 것이 없으리니 이는 여호와의 입이 이를 명하셨고 그의 신이 이것들을 모으셨음이라

풀이: 신의 책을 펼쳐 자세히 읽어 보라. 이것들 가운데 하나도 빠지지 않고, 어느 하나도 제 짝을 잃지 않으리라. 신의 입이 친히 그리 명했고, 그의 영이 이것들을 불러 모았기 때문이다.

Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.

여호와께서 그것들을 위하여 제비를 뽑으시며 친수로 줄을 띠어 그 땅을 그것들에게 나눠주셨으니 그것들이 영영히 차지하며 대대로 거기 거하리라

풀이: 신이 그것들을 위해 제비를 뽑고, 친히 측량줄로 그 땅을 나눠 주었다. 그것들은 그 땅을 영영토록 차지하며 대대로 거기 살 것이다.

And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein.
