창세기 19장

날이 저물 때에 그 두 천사가 소돔에 이르니 마침 롯이 소돔 성문에 앉았다가 그들을 보고 일어나 영접하고 땅에 엎드리어 절하여

풀이: 날이 저물 무렵, 두 천사가 소돔에 다다랐다. 마침 롯이 소돔 성문에 앉아 있다가 그들을 보고는, 벌떡 일어나 맞이하며 얼굴을 땅에 대고 절했다.

And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;

가로되 내 주여 돌이켜 종의 집으로 들어와 발을 씻고 주무시고 일찌기 일어나 갈 길을 가소서 그들이 가로되 아니라 우리가 거리에서 경야하리라

풀이: 그가 말했다. "제 주인들이시여, 부디 종의 집으로 들어와 발을 씻고 하룻밤 묵으신 뒤, 아침 일찍 일어나 길을 떠나십시오." 그들이 답했다. "아니다. 우리는 광장에서 밤을 지내겠다."

And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.

롯이 간청하매 그제야 돌이켜서 그 집으로 들어 오는지라 롯이 그들을 위하여 식탁을 베풀고 무교병을 구우니 그들이 먹으니라

풀이: 롯이 한사코 졸라 대자, 그제야 두 사람은 발길을 돌려 그의 집으로 들어왔다. 롯은 그들을 위해 상을 차리고 누룩 없는 빵을 구웠고, 그들은 먹었다.

And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.

그들의 눕기 전에 그 성 사람 곧 소돔 백성들이 무론 노소하고 사방에서 다 모여 그 집을 에워싸고

풀이: 그런데 그들이 채 잠자리에 들기도 전에, 그 성 사람들 — 소돔의 사내들이 늙은이부터 젊은이까지 사방에서 다 몰려와 그 집을 에워쌌다.

But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:

롯을 부르고 그에게 이르되 이 저녁에 네게 온 사람이 어디 있느냐 이끌어내라 우리가 그들을 상관하리라

풀이: 그들은 롯을 부르며 소리쳤다. "오늘 밤 네 집에 들어온 그 사내들이 어디 있느냐? 끌어내라. 우리가 그들을 '알아야겠다'."

And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.

롯이 문밖의 무리에게로 나가서 뒤로 문을 닫고

풀이: 롯이 문밖의 무리에게로 나가서, 등 뒤로 문을 닫고

And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,

이르되 청하노니 내 형제들아 이런 악을 행치 말라

풀이: 이렇게 빌었다. "제발, 형제들이여, 이런 못된 짓은 하지 마시오."

And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.

내게 남자를 가까이 아니한 두 딸이 있노라 청컨대 내가 그들을 너희에게로 이끌어내리니 너희 눈에 좋은대로 그들에게 행하고 이 사람들은 내 집에 들어왔은즉 이 사람들에게는 아무 짓도 하지말라

풀이: "내게 아직 사내를 모르는 두 딸이 있소. 그 아이들을 당신들에게 내어 줄 테니, 당신들 좋을 대로 하시오. 다만 이 사람들에게는 아무 짓도 하지 마시오. 이들은 내 지붕 그늘 아래로 들어온 손님이니."

Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.

그들이 가로되 너는 물러나라 또 가로되 이 놈이 들어와서 우거하면서 우리의 법관이 되려 하는도다 이제 우리가 그들보다 너를 더 해하리라 하고 롯을 밀치며 가까이 나아와서 그 문을 깨치려 하는지라

풀이: 그러자 그들이 외쳤다. "비켜라!" 그러고는 말했다. "이놈은 굴러들어 온 주제에 우리를 재판하려 드는구나. 이제 저들보다 너를 더 험하게 다뤄 주마." 그들은 롯을 거세게 밀치며 다가와, 문을 부수려 들었다.

And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.

그 사람들이 손을 내밀어 롯을 집으로 끌어 들이고 문을 닫으며

풀이: 그때 안에 있던 두 사람이 손을 뻗어 롯을 집 안으로 끌어들이고 문을 닫았다.

But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.

문밖의 무리로 무론 대소하고 그 눈을 어둡게 하니 그들이 문을 찾느라고 곤비하였더라

풀이: 그리고 문밖의 무리를, 낮은 자든 높은 자든 가리지 않고 모두 눈이 멀게 했다. 그러자 그들은 문을 찾느라 기진맥진했다.

And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

그 사람들이 롯에게 이르되 이 외에 네게 속한 자가 또 있느냐 네 사위나 자녀나 성중에 네게 속한 자들을 다 성밖으로 이끌어내라

풀이: 두 사람이 롯에게 말했다. "여기 네게 딸린 사람이 또 있느냐? 사위든 아들이든 딸이든, 이 성안에 네게 속한 자가 있거든 모조리 이곳에서 데리고 나가라."

And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:

그들에 대하여 부르짖음이 여호와 앞에 크므로 여호와께서 우리로 이곳을 멸하러 보내셨나니 우리가 멸하리라

풀이: "우리는 이곳을 무너뜨리려 한다. 이들에 대한 부르짖음이 신 앞에 너무 커졌기에, 신이 이곳을 멸하라고 우리를 보냈다."

For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it.

롯이 나가서 그 딸들과 정혼한 사위들에게 고하여 이르되 여호와께서 이 성을 멸하실터이니 너희는 일어나 이곳에서 떠나라 하되 그 사위들이 농담으로 여겼더라

풀이: 롯이 나가서, 자기 딸들과 약혼한 사위들에게 알렸다. "어서 일어나 이곳에서 빠져나가게. 신이 이 성을 무너뜨리실 걸세!" 그러나 사위들은 그가 농담을 하는 줄로만 여겼다.

And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.

동틀 때에 천사가 롯을 재촉하여 가로되 일어나 여기 있는 네 아내와 두 딸을 이끌라 이 성의 죄악 중에 함께 멸망할까 하노라

풀이: 동이 틀 무렵, 천사들이 롯을 재촉했다. "일어나라. 여기 있는 네 아내와 두 딸을 데리고 가라. 이 성의 죄에 휩쓸려 함께 쓸려 가지 않으려거든."

And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.

그러나 롯이 지체하매 그 사람들이 롯의 손과 그 아내의 손과 두 딸의 손을 잡아 인도하여 성밖에 두니 여호와께서 그에게 인자를 더하심이었더라

풀이: 그래도 롯이 머뭇거리자, 두 사람은 롯의 손과 그 아내의 손과 두 딸의 손을 붙잡아 이끌어, 성 밖에 내려놓았다. 신이 그를 가엾게 여겼기 때문이다.

And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the Lord being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.

그 사람들이 그들을 밖으로 이끌어낸 후에 이르되 도망하여 생명을 보존하라 돌아보거나 들에 머무르거나 하지 말고 산으로 도망하여 멸망함을 면하라

풀이: 그들을 밖으로 데리고 나온 뒤, 한 천사가 말했다. "목숨을 건지려거든 도망쳐라! 뒤를 돌아보지도, 이 들판 어디에도 멈춰 서지도 마라. 산으로 달아나라. 그러지 않으면 너도 쓸려 간다."

And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.

롯이 그들에게 이르되 내 주여 그리 마옵소서

풀이: 롯이 그들에게 말했다. "제 주여, 부디 그러지 마십시오."

And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:

종이 주께 은혜를 얻었고 주께서 큰 인자를 내게 베푸사 내 생명을 구원하시오나 내가 도망하여 산까지 갈 수 없나이다 두렵건대 재앙을 만나 죽을까 하나이다

풀이: "보십시오, 종이 당신께 은혜를 입었고, 당신은 제 목숨을 살려 주시는 큰 자비를 베푸셨습니다. 그러나 저는 산까지는 도저히 달아날 수 없습니다. 가다가 재앙이 덮쳐 죽을까 두렵습니다."

Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:

보소서 저 성은 도망하기 가깝고 작기도 하오니 나로 그곳에 도망하게 하소서 이는 작은 성이 아니니이까 내 생명이 보존되리이다

풀이: "보십시오, 저기 저 성은 가까워서 달아나기 좋고, 또 작은 곳입니다. 부디 저곳으로 피하게 해 주십시오. 저렇게 작은 곳 아닙니까? 그러면 제 목숨은 부지하겠습니다."

Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.

그가 그에게 이르되 내가 이 일에도 네 소원을 들었은즉 너의 말하는 성을 멸하지 아니하리니

풀이: 그가 롯에게 말했다. "좋다, 이 일까지도 네 청을 들어주마. 네가 말한 저 성은 무너뜨리지 않겠다."

And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.

그리로 속히 도망하라 네가 거기 이르기까지는 내가 아무 일도 행할 수 없노라 하였더라 그러므로 그 성 이름을 소알이라 불렀더라

풀이: "서둘러 그곳으로 달아나라. 네가 그곳에 닿기 전까지는 내가 아무 일도 할 수 없다." 그래서 그 성의 이름을 소알이라 불렀다.

Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

롯이 소알에 들어갈 때에 해가 돋았더라

풀이: 롯이 소알에 들어설 때, 해가 땅 위로 솟아올랐다.

The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.

여호와께서 하늘 곧 여호와에게로서 유황과 불을 비 같이 소돔과 고모라에 내리사

풀이: 그때 신이 소돔과 고모라 위에, 하늘 곧 신에게서 유황과 불을 비처럼 퍼부었다.

Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven;

그 성들과 온 들과 성에 거하는 모든 백성과 땅에 난 것을 다 엎어 멸하셨더라

풀이: 그렇게 그 성들과 온 들판, 그 성에 살던 모든 사람과 땅에서 돋아난 것까지 모조리 뒤엎어 멸했다.

And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.

롯의 아내는 뒤를 돌아 본고로 소금 기둥이 되었더라

풀이: 그런데 롯의 아내는 뒤를 돌아보았고, 그만 소금 기둥이 되고 말았다.

But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

아브라함이 그 아침에 일찌기 일어나 여호와의 앞에 섰던 곳에 이르러

풀이: 아브라함은 그 아침 일찍 일어나, 전날 신 앞에 섰던 그 자리로 갔다.

And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the Lord:

소돔과 고모라와 그 온 들을 향하여 눈을 들어 연기가 옹기점 연기 같이 치밀음을 보았더라

풀이: 그가 소돔과 고모라와 그 온 들판 쪽으로 눈을 들어 보니, 그 땅에서 연기가 용광로 연기처럼 치솟고 있었다.

And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.

하나님이 들의 성들을 멸하실 때 곧 롯의 거하는 성을 엎으실 때에 아브라함을 생각하사 롯을 그 엎으시는 중에서 내어 보내셨더라

풀이: 신은 그 들판의 성들을 멸할 때, 아브라함을 기억했다. 그래서 롯이 살던 성을 뒤엎으면서도, 그 무너짐 한가운데서 롯을 빼내 보냈다.

And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.

롯이 소알에 거하기를 두려워하여 두 딸과 함께 소알에서 나와 산에 올라 거하되 그 두 딸과 함께 굴에 거하였더니

풀이: 롯은 소알에 사는 것이 두려워, 두 딸과 함께 그곳을 떠나 산으로 올라가 살았다. 그렇게 그와 두 딸은 한 동굴에 머물렀다.

And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.

큰 딸이 작은 딸에게 이르되 우리 아버지는 늙으셨고 이 땅에는 세상의 도리를 좇아 우리의 배필 될 사람이 없으니

풀이: 큰딸이 작은딸에게 말했다. "아버지는 늙으셨고, 이 땅에는 세상 풍습대로 우리에게 들어올 남자가 없어."

And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:

우리가 우리 아버지에게 술을 마시우고 동침하여 우리 아버지로 말미암아 인종을 전하자 하고

풀이: "자, 아버지께 술을 취하게 해 드리고 동침하자. 그렇게 해서라도 아버지의 씨를 이어 가자."

Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.

그 밤에 그들이 아비에게 술을 마시우고 큰 딸이 들어가서 그 아비와 동침하니라 그러나 그 아비는 그 딸의 눕고 일어나는 것을 깨닫지 못하였더라

풀이: 그날 밤 그들은 아버지에게 술을 취하게 했고, 큰딸이 들어가 아버지와 동침했다. 그러나 아버지는 딸이 언제 눕고 언제 일어났는지 알아채지 못했다.

And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.

이튿날에 큰 딸이 작은 딸에게 이르되 어제밤에는 내가 우리 아버지와 동침하였으니 오늘밤에도 우리가 아버지에게 술을 마시우고 네가 들어가 동침하고 우리가 아버지로 말미암아 인종을 전하자 하고

풀이: 이튿날 큰딸이 작은딸에게 말했다. "어젯밤엔 내가 아버지와 동침했어. 오늘 밤에도 아버지께 술을 취하게 하고, 이번엔 네가 들어가 동침해. 그렇게 아버지의 씨를 이어 가자."

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.

이 밤에도 그들이 아비에게 술을 마시우고 작은 딸이 일어나 아비와 동침하니라 그러나 아비는 그 딸의 눕고 일어나는 것을 깨닫지 못하였더라

풀이: 그날 밤에도 그들은 아버지에게 술을 취하게 했고, 작은딸이 일어나 아버지와 동침했다. 이번에도 아버지는 딸이 언제 눕고 언제 일어났는지 알아채지 못했다.

And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.

롯의 두 딸이 아비로 말미암아 잉태하고

풀이: 이렇게 롯의 두 딸은 제 아버지로 말미암아 아이를 가졌다.

Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.

큰 딸은 아들을 낳아 이름을 모압이라 하였으니 오늘날 모압 족속의 조상이요

풀이: 큰딸은 아들을 낳아 이름을 모압이라 했으니, 오늘날 모압 족속의 조상이다.

And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.

작은 딸도 아들을 낳아 이름을 벤암미라 하였으니 오늘날 암몬 족속의 조상이었더라

풀이: 작은딸도 아들을 낳아 이름을 벤암미라 했으니, 오늘날 암몬 족속의 조상이다.

And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Ben–ammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.
