이사야 13장

아모스의 아들 이사야가 바벨론에 대하여 받은 경고라

풀이: 아모스의 아들 이사야가 바벨론을 두고 받은 무거운 신탁이다.

The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see.

너희는 자산 위에 기호를 세우고 소리를 높여 그들을 부르며 손을 흔들어 그들로 존귀한 자의 문에 들어가게 하라

풀이: 헐벗은 산꼭대기에 깃발을 세워라. 목청을 높여 그들을 부르고, 손을 흔들어 신호하라. 권세 있는 자들의 성문으로 그들이 밀고 들어가게 하라.

Lift ye up a banner upon the high mountain, exalt the voice unto them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles.

내가 나의 거룩히 구별한 자에게 명하고 나의 위엄을 기뻐하는 용사들을 불러 나의 노를 풀게 하였느니라

풀이: 내가 따로 구별해 둔 자들에게 명령을 내렸다. 내 위엄을 떨치며 우쭐대는 용사들도 불러 모았다 — 나의 분노를 대신 풀게 하려는 것이다.

I have commanded my sanctified ones, I have also called my mighty ones for mine anger, even them that rejoice in my highness.

산에서 무리의 소리가 남이여 많은 백성의 소리 같으니 곧 열국 민족이 함께 모여 떠드는 소리라 만군의 여호와께서 싸움을 위하여 군대를 검열하심이로다

풀이: 산에서 웅성거리는 소리가 들린다. 거대한 무리의 소리 같다. 여러 왕국과 민족이 한데 모여 떠드는 함성이다. 만군의 신이 전쟁에 내보낼 군대를 사열하고 있다.

The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the Lord of hosts mustereth the host of the battle.

무리가 먼 나라에서, 하늘 가에서 왔음이여 곧 여호와와 그 진노의 병기라 온 땅을 멸하려 함이로다

풀이: 그들은 먼 나라에서, 하늘 끝에서 몰려온다. 신과 그의 분노가 휘두르는 병기 — 온 땅을 짓부수려고 오는 것이다.

They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the Lord, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.

너희는 애곡할찌어다 여호와의 날이 가까왔으니 전능자에게서 멸망이 임할 것임이로다

풀이: 울부짖어라. 신의 날이 코앞에 닥쳤다. 전능자가 보내는 파멸이 폐허처럼 들이닥칠 것이다.

Howl ye; for the day of the Lord is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.

그러므로 모든 손이 피곤하며 각사람의 마음이 녹을 것이라

풀이: 그래서 모든 팔이 맥없이 늘어지고, 사람마다 심장이 녹아내릴 것이다.

Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man’s heart shall melt:

그들이 놀라며 괴로움과 슬픔에 잡혀서 임산한 여자 같이 고통하며 서로 보고 놀라며 얼굴은 불꽃 같으리로다

풀이: 다들 공포에 질리고, 진통과 비탄에 사로잡혀 해산하는 여인처럼 몸부림친다. 서로를 멍하니 바라보며 얼이 빠지고, 얼굴은 불길에 덴 듯 벌겋게 달아오른다.

And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.

여호와의 날 곧 잔혹히 분냄과 맹렬히 노하는 날이 임하여 땅을 황무케 하며 그 중에서 죄인을 멸하리니

풀이: 보라, 신의 날이 온다. 잔혹한 격노와 타오르는 분노로 땅을 폐허로 만들고, 그 속의 죄인들을 쓸어버리려는 날이다.

Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

하늘의 별들과 별 떨기가 그 빛을 내지 아니하며 해가 돋아도 어두우며 달이 그 빛을 비취지 아니할 것이로다

풀이: 하늘의 별들도, 별자리들도 빛을 내지 못한다. 떠오른 해는 캄캄하고, 달도 그 빛을 비추지 못할 것이다.

For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

내가 세상의 악과 악인의 죄를 벌하며 교만한 자의 오만을 끊으며 강포한 자의 거만을 낮출 것이며

풀이: 내가 세상의 악을, 악인의 죄악을 벌하겠다. 거만한 자의 오만을 꺾고, 폭압을 일삼는 자의 거드름을 짓눌러 놓겠다.

And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.

내가 사람을 정금보다 희소케 하며 오빌의 순금보다 희귀케 하리로다

풀이: 그리하여 살아남은 사람이 순금보다 드물고, 오빌의 정금보다 귀해지게 하겠다.

I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.

나 만군의 여호와가 분하여 맹렬히 노하는 날에 하늘을 진동시키며 땅을 흔들어 그 자리에서 떠나게 하리니

풀이: 만군의 신이 격분하여 맹렬히 노하는 그날, 내가 하늘을 뒤흔들고 땅을 통째로 흔들어 제자리에서 빠져나가게 하겠다.

Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the Lord of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.

그들이 쫓긴 노루나 모으는 자 없는 양 같이 각기 동족에게로 돌아가며 본향으로 도망할 것이나

풀이: 그러면 사람들은 쫓기는 노루처럼, 거둘 목자 없는 양 떼처럼, 저마다 제 겨레에게로 돌아서고 제 고향 땅으로 달아날 것이다.

And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man taketh up: they shall every man turn to his own people, and flee every one into his own land.

만나는 자는 창에 찔리겠고 잡히는 자는 칼에 엎드러지겠고

풀이: 마주치는 자는 창에 꿰뚫리고, 붙잡히는 자는 칼날에 쓰러진다.

Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword.

그들의 어린 아이들은 그 목전에 메어침을 입겠고 그 집은 노략을 당하겠고 그 아내는 욕을 당하리라

풀이: 그들이 보는 앞에서 어린아이들이 메어쳐 박살 나고, 집은 약탈당하며, 아내들은 욕보임을 당할 것이다.

Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.

보라 은을 돌아보지 아니하며 금을 기뻐하지 아니하는 메대 사람을 내가 격동시켜 그들을 치게 하리니

풀이: 보라, 내가 메대 사람을 부추겨 그들을 치게 하겠다. 은에는 눈길도 주지 않고 금에도 마음이 동하지 않는 자들이다.

Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.

메대 사람이 활로 청년을 쏘아 죽이며 태의 열매를 긍휼히 여기지 아니하며 아이를 가석히 보지 아니하리라

풀이: 그들의 활은 젊은이들을 쏘아 쓰러뜨릴 것이다. 태에서 난 아이도 가엾이 여기지 않고, 어린것을 보아도 눈 하나 깜짝하지 않는다.

Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children.

열국의 영광이요 갈대아 사람의 자랑하는 노리개가 된 바벨론이 하나님께 멸망 당한 소돔과 고모라 같이 되리니

풀이: 뭇 왕국의 영광이요 갈대아 사람의 자랑이며 그 화려함의 극치였던 바벨론이, 신이 뒤엎은 소돔과 고모라처럼 되고 말 것이다.

And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

그 곳에 처할 자가 없겠고 거할 사람이 대대에 없을 것이며 아라비아 사람도 거기 장막을 치지 아니하며 목자들도 그곳에 그 양떼를 쉬게 하지 아니할 것이요

풀이: 그곳엔 살 자가 없고, 대를 이어 거주할 사람도 없을 것이다. 아라비아 유목민조차 거기 천막을 치지 않고, 목자도 양 떼를 거기서 쉬게 하지 않을 것이다.

It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.

오직 들짐승들이 거기 엎드리고 부르짖는 짐승이 그 가옥에 충만하며 타조가 거기 깃들이며 들 양이 거기서 뛸 것이요

풀이: 오직 사막의 들짐승들이 거기 엎드리고, 집집마다 부엉이 같은 울음 짐승이 들어찰 것이다. 타조가 거기 둥지를 틀고, 들염소 귀신이 그곳에서 뛰놀 것이다.

But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.

그 궁성에는 시랑이 부르짖을 것이요 화려한 전에는 들 개가 울 것이라 그의 때가 가까우며 그의 날이 오래지 아니하리라

풀이: 버려진 집에서는 하이에나가 울부짖고, 화려하던 궁전에서는 들개가 짖을 것이다. 그때가 임박했고, 그날은 더 미뤄지지 않으리라.

And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.
