창세기 14장

당시에 시날왕 아므라벨과 엘라살왕 아리옥과 엘람왕 그돌라오멜과 고임왕 디달이

풀이: 그 무렵의 일이다. 동쪽의 네 임금 — 시날의 아므라벨, 엘라살의 아리옥, 엘람의 그돌라오멜, 고임의 디달이

And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations;

소돔왕 베라와 고모라왕 비르사와 아드마왕 시납과 스보임왕 세메벨과 벨라 곧 소알왕과 싸우니라

풀이: 소돔의 베라, 고모라의 비르사, 아드마의 시납, 스보임의 세메벨, 그리고 벨라 곧 소알의 임금, 이 5명의 임금과 전쟁을 벌였다.

That these made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar.

이들이 다 싯딤 골짜기 곧 지금 염해에 모였더라

풀이: 이 5명의 임금은 모두 싯딤 골짜기에 군대를 모았다 — 지금의 소금 바다(사해)가 된 곳이다.

All these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea.

이들이 십 이년 동안 그돌라오멜을 섬기다가 제 십삼년에 배반한지라

풀이: 이들은 12년 동안 그돌라오멜에게 복종해 오다가, 13년째에 등을 돌리고 반기를 들었다.

Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.

제 십사년에 그돌라오멜과 그와 동맹한 왕들이 나와서 아스드롯 가르나임에서 르바 족속을, 함에서 수스 족속을, 사웨 기랴다임에서 엠 족속을 치고

풀이: 14년째 되던 해, 그돌라오멜과 그에게 가담한 임금들이 출정해 곳곳을 휩쓸었다. 아스드롯 가르나임에서 르바 족속을, 함에서 수스 족속을, 사웨 기랴다임에서 엠 족속을 쳐부수고,

And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzims in Ham, and the Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim,

호리 족속을 그 산 세일에서 쳐서 광야 근방 엘바란까지 이르렀으며

풀이: 세일 산악 지대에서는 호리 족속을 쳐서, 광야 언저리의 엘바란까지 밀고 내려갔다.

And the Horites in their mount Seir, unto El–paran, which is by the wilderness.

그들이 돌이켜 엔미스밧 곧 가데스에 이르러 아말렉 족속의 온 땅과 하사손다말에 사는 아모리 족속을 친지라

풀이: 거기서 그들은 방향을 돌려 엔미스밧 곧 가데스로 와서, 아말렉 족속의 온 땅과 하사손다말에 살던 아모리 족속까지 쳤다.

And they returned, and came to En–mishpat, which is Kadesh, and smote all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazezon–tamar.

소돔왕과 고모라왕과 아드마왕과 스보임왕과 벨라 곧 소알왕이 나와서 싯딤 골짜기에서 그들과 접전하였으니

풀이: 그제야 소돔 임금과 고모라 임금, 아드마 임금과 스보임 임금, 그리고 벨라 곧 소알의 임금이 나서서, 싯딤 골짜기에서 그들과 맞붙어 진을 쳤다.

And there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar;) and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim;

곧 그 다섯 왕이 엘람왕 그돌라오멜과 고임왕 디달과 시날왕 아므라벨과 엘라살왕 아리옥 네 왕과 교전하였더라

풀이: 엘람의 그돌라오멜, 고임의 디달, 시날의 아므라벨, 엘라살의 아리옥 — 이 4명의 임금이 5명의 임금을 상대한 싸움이었다.

With Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and with Tidal king of nations, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings with five.

싯딤 골짜기에는 역청 구덩이가 많은지라 소돔왕과 고모라왕이 달아날 때에 군사가 거기 빠지고 그 나머지는 산으로 도망하매

풀이: 그런데 싯딤 골짜기에는 역청이 고인 구덩이가 곳곳에 있었다. 소돔 임금과 고모라 임금의 군대는 달아나다 그 구덩이에 빠졌고, 살아남은 자들은 산으로 도망쳤다.

And the vale of Siddim was full of slimepits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there; and they that remained fled to the mountain.

네 왕이 소돔과 고모라의 모든 재물과 양식을 빼앗아 가고

풀이: 네 임금은 소돔과 고모라의 재물과 양식을 모조리 빼앗아 떠났다.

And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and went their way.

소돔에 거하는 아브람의 조카 롯도 사로잡고 그 재물까지 노략하여 갔더라

풀이: 그러면서 소돔에 살고 있던 아브람의 조카 롯까지 붙잡고, 그의 재산도 약탈해 끌고 갔다.

And they took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.

도망한 자가 와서 히브리 사람 아브람에게 고하니 때에 아브람이 아모리 족속 마므레의 상수리 수풀 근처에 거하였더라 마므레는 에스골의 형제요 또 아넬의 형제라 이들은 아브람과 동맹한 자더라

풀이: 도망쳐 나온 한 사람이 와서 히브리 사람 아브람에게 이 일을 알렸다. 그때 아브람은 아모리 사람 마므레의 상수리나무 숲 곁에 머물고 있었다. 마므레는 에스골과 아넬의 형제였고, 이들은 모두 아브람과 동맹을 맺은 사이였다.

And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.

아브람이 그 조카의 사로잡혔음을 듣고 집에서 길리고 연습한 자 삼백 십 팔인을 거느리고 단까지 쫓아가서

풀이: 조카가 끌려갔다는 소식을 들은 아브람은, 제 집에서 나고 자라 훈련된 사람 318명을 데리고 단까지 적을 뒤쫓아 갔다.

And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.

그 가신을 나누어 밤을 타서 그들을 쳐서 파하고 다메섹 좌편 호바까지 쫓아가서

풀이: 그는 부하들을 나누어, 밤을 틈타 적을 기습해 무찌르고, 다메섹 북쪽 호바까지 그들을 몰아붙였다.

And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.

모든 빼앗겼던 재물과 자기 조카 롯과 그 재물과 또 부녀와 인민을 다 찾아 왔더라

풀이: 그리고 빼앗겼던 재물을 모두 되찾았고, 조카 롯과 그의 재산은 물론, 끌려갔던 부녀자와 사람들까지 전부 데려왔다.

And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.

아브람이 그돌라오멜과 그와 함께한 왕들을 파하고 돌아올 때에 소돔왕이 사웨 골짜기 곧 왕곡에 나와 그를 영접하였고

풀이: 아브람이 그돌라오멜과 그에게 가담했던 임금들을 무찌르고 돌아오자, 소돔 임금이 사웨 골짜기 곧 '임금의 골짜기'로 나와 그를 맞이했다.

And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king’s dale.

살렘왕 멜기세덱이 떡과 포도주를 가지고 나왔으니 그는 지극히 높으신 하나님의 제사장이었더라

풀이: 그때 살렘의 임금 멜기세덱이 빵과 포도주를 가지고 나왔다. 그는 가장 높은 신을 섬기는 사제였다.

And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.

그가 아브람에게 축복하여 가로되 천지의 주재시요 지극히 높으신 하나님이여 아브람에게 복을 주옵소서

풀이: 그가 아브람을 축복하며 말했다. "하늘과 땅의 주인이신 가장 높은 신이여, 아브람에게 복을 내려 주소서."

And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:

너희 대적을 네 손에 붙이신 지극히 높으신 하나님을 찬송할찌로다 하매 아브람이 그 얻은 것에서 십분 일을 멜기세덱에게 주었더라

풀이: "그대의 원수를 그대 손에 넘겨주신 가장 높은 신을 찬양하노라." 그러자 아브람은 자기가 얻은 모든 것에서 열에 하나를 떼어 멜기세덱에게 주었다.

And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

소돔왕이 아브람에게 이르되 사람은 내게 보내고 물품은 네가 취하라

풀이: 소돔 임금이 아브람에게 말했다. "사람은 내게 돌려주고, 물품은 그대가 가지시오."

And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself.

아브람이 소돔왕에게 이르되 천지의 주재시요 지극히 높으신 하나님 여호와께 내가 손을 들어 맹세하노니

풀이: 아브람이 소돔 임금에게 대답했다. "하늘과 땅의 주인이신 가장 높은 신, 그분께 내가 손을 들어 맹세했소."

And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,

네 말이 내가 아브람으로 치부케 하였다 할까 하여 네게 속한 것은 무론 한 실이나 신들메라도 내가 취하지 아니하리라

풀이: "실 한 오라기도, 신발 끈 하나도, 그대의 것은 아무것도 받지 않겠소. '내가 아브람을 부자로 만들어 주었다'고 그대가 말하지 못하도록 말이오."

That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:

오직 소년들의 먹은 것과 나와 동행한 아넬과 에스골과 마므레의 분깃을 제할찌니 그들이 그 분깃을 취할 것이니라

풀이: "다만 내 젊은이들이 먹은 몫과, 나와 함께 나선 아넬과 에스골과 마므레의 몫만은 예외요. 그들은 자기 몫을 챙기게 하시오."

Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.
