여호수아 5장

요단 서편의 아모리 사람의 모든 왕과 해변의 가나안 사람의 모든 왕이 여호와께서 요단 물을 이스라엘 자손들 앞에서 말리시고 우리를 건네셨음을 듣고 마음이 녹았고 이스라엘 자손들의 연고로 정신을 잃었더라

풀이: 요단강 서쪽 아모리 사람의 모든 왕과 바닷가 가나안 사람의 모든 왕이 소식을 들었다. 신이 이스라엘 자손 앞에서 요단강 물을 말려, 그들이 다 건널 때까지 길을 열었다는 것을. 그 말을 듣고 왕들의 가슴은 녹아내렸고, 이스라엘 자손 앞에서 더는 맞설 기운조차 남지 않았다.

And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

그 때에 여호와께서 여호수아에게 이르시되 너는 부싯돌로 칼을 만들어 이스라엘 자손들에게 다시 할례를 행하라 하시매

풀이: 그 무렵 신이 여호수아에게 말했다. "너는 부싯돌로 칼을 만들어, 이스라엘 자손에게 다시 할례를 행하라."

At that time the Lord said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.

여호수아가 부싯돌로 칼을 만들어 할례산에서 이스라엘 자손들에게 할례를 행하니라

풀이: 여호수아는 부싯돌 칼을 만들어, '할례산'이라 불린 언덕에서 이스라엘 자손에게 할례를 행했다.

And Joshua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.

여호수아가 할례를 시행한 까닭은 이것이니 애굽에서 나온 모든 백성 중 남자 곧 모든 군사는 애굽에서 나온 후 광야 노중에서 죽었는데

풀이: 여호수아가 할례를 행한 까닭은 이렇다. 이집트에서 나온 모든 백성 가운데 남자, 곧 싸울 수 있는 모든 군사는 이집트를 떠난 뒤 광야 길에서 다 죽었다.

And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.

그 나온 백성은 다 할례를 받았으나 오직 애굽에서 나온 후 광야 노중에서 난 자는 할례를 받지 못하였음이라

풀이: 이집트를 나올 때의 백성은 모두 할례를 받은 상태였다. 그러나 그 뒤 광야 길에서 태어난 이들은 할례를 받지 못한 채였다.

Now all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcised.

이스라엘 자손들이 여호와의 말씀을 청종치 아니하므로 여호와께서 그들에게 대하여 맹세하사 그들의 열조에게 맹세하여 우리에게 주마 하신 땅 곧 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅을 그들로 보지 못하게 하리라 하시매 애굽에서 나온 족속 곧 군사들이 다 멸절하기까지 사십년 동안을 광야에 행하였더니

풀이: 이스라엘 자손이 신의 말을 따르지 않았기에, 신은 그들에게 맹세했다. 그들의 조상에게 주겠다고 맹세한 그 땅, 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅을 그들에게는 보여 주지 않겠다고. 그래서 이집트에서 나온 세대, 곧 싸울 수 있던 군사들이 모두 스러질 때까지 40년 동안 그들은 광야를 떠돌았다.

For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the Lord: unto whom the Lord sware that he would not shew them the land, which the Lord sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

그들의 대를 잇게 하신 이 자손에게 여호수아가 할례를 행하였으니 길에서는 그들에게 할례를 행치 못하였으므로 할례 없는 자가 되었음이었더라

풀이: 그 죽은 세대를 대신해 신이 일으켜 세운 자손에게 여호수아가 할례를 행했다. 광야 길에서는 그들에게 할례를 행하지 못해, 할례 없는 자들로 자라 있었기 때문이다.

And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.

온 백성에게 할례 행하기를 필하매 백성이 진중 각 처소에 처하여 낫기를 기다릴 때에

풀이: 온 백성에게 할례 행하기를 마치자, 그들은 상처가 아물 때까지 진영 안 각자의 자리에 머물러 있었다.

And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.

여호와께서 여호수아에게 이르시되 내가 오늘날 애굽의 수치를 너희에게서 굴러가게 하였다 하셨으므로 그곳 이름을 오늘까지 길갈이라 하느니라

풀이: 신이 여호수아에게 말했다. "오늘 내가 이집트의 수치를 너희에게서 굴려 치워 버렸다." 그래서 그곳의 이름을 오늘날까지 길갈이라 부른다.

And the Lord said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.

이스라엘 자손들이 길갈에 진 쳤고 그 달 십 사일 저녁에는 여리고 평지에서 유월절을 지켰고

풀이: 이스라엘 자손은 길갈에 진을 쳤고, 그달 14일 저녁 여리고 평원에서 유월절을 지켰다.

And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.

유월절 이튿날에 그 땅 소산을 먹되 그 날에 무교병과 볶은 곡식을 먹었더니

풀이: 유월절 이튿날, 그들은 처음으로 그 땅의 소산을 먹었다. 바로 그날 누룩 없는 빵과 볶은 곡식을 먹었다.

And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.

그 땅 소산을 먹은 다음 날에 만나가 그쳤으니 이스라엘 사람들이 다시는 만나를 얻지 못하였고 그 해에 가나안 땅의 열매를 먹었더라

풀이: 그 땅의 소산을 먹은 다음 날, 만나가 그쳤다. 이스라엘 사람들은 다시는 만나를 얻지 못했고, 그해부터 가나안 땅에서 난 것을 먹었다.

And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

여호수아가 여리고에 가까왔을 때에 눈을 들어본즉 한 사람이 칼을 빼어 손에 들고 마주섰는지라 여호수아가 나아가서 그에게 묻되 너는 우리를 위하느냐 우리의 대적을 위하느냐

풀이: 여호수아가 여리고 가까이 이르렀을 때, 눈을 들어 보니 한 사람이 칼을 빼어 손에 들고 그를 마주 보고 서 있었다. 여호수아가 다가가 물었다. "당신은 우리 편이오, 아니면 우리 적의 편이오?"

And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

그가 가로되 아니라 나는 여호와의 군대장관으로 이제 왔느니라 여호수아가 땅에 엎드려 절하고 가로되 나의 주여 종에게 무슨 말씀을 하려 하시나이까

풀이: 그가 대답했다. "아니다. 나는 신의 군대를 이끄는 사령관으로, 지금 막 왔다." 그러자 여호수아는 땅에 엎드려 절하고 말했다. "나의 주여, 종에게 무슨 말씀을 하시려 합니까?"

And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?

여호와의 군대장관이 여호수아에게 이르되 네 발에서 신을 벗으라 네가 선 곳은 거룩하니라 여호수아가 그대로 행하니라

풀이: 신의 군대 사령관이 여호수아에게 말했다. "네 발에서 신을 벗어라. 네가 선 곳은 거룩한 땅이다." 여호수아는 그대로 했다.

And the captain of the Lord’s host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.
