다니엘 1장

유다 왕 여호야김이 위에 있은지 삼년에 바벨론 왕 느부갓네살이 예루살렘에 이르러 그것을 에워쌌더니

풀이: 유다 왕 여호야김이 다스린 지 3년째 되던 해, 바벨론 왕 느부갓네살이 예루살렘에 들이닥쳐 도성을 에워쌌다.

In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.

주께서 유다 왕 여호야김과 하나님의 전 기구 얼마를 그의 손에 붙이시매 그가 그것을 가지고 시날 땅 자기 신의 묘에 이르러 그 신의 보고에 두었더라

풀이: 신은 유다 왕 여호야김을, 그리고 신전 기물 가운데 일부를 그의 손에 넘겨주었다. 느부갓네살은 그것들을 시날 땅으로 가져가 자기 신의 신전에 들이고, 그 기물들을 자기 신의 보물 창고에 두었다.

And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

왕이 환관장 아스부나스에게 명하여 이스라엘 자손 중에서 왕족과 귀족의 몇 사람

풀이: 왕은 환관장 아스부나스에게 명하여, 이스라엘 사람 중에서도 왕족과 귀족 집안의 자제 몇을 데려오게 했다.

And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes;

곧 흠이 없고 아름다우며 모든 재주를 통달하며 지식이 구비하며 학문에 익숙하여 왕궁에 모실만한 소년을 데려오게 하였고 그들에게 갈대아 사람의 학문과 방언을 가르치게 하였고

풀이: 흠 하나 없이 잘생기고, 온갖 분야에 밝고, 지식이 풍부하며, 배운 것을 잘 깨치는 — 왕궁에서 시중들 만한 소년들이었다. 그들에게는 갈대아 사람들의 학문과 언어를 가르치게 했다.

Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

또 왕이 지정하여 자기의 진미와 자기의 마시는 포도주에서 그들의 날마다 쓸 것을 주어 삼년을 기르게 하였으니 이는 그 후에 그들로 왕의 앞에 모셔 서게 하려함이었더라

풀이: 또 왕은 자기가 먹는 진귀한 음식과 자기가 마시는 포도주에서 그들이 날마다 받을 몫을 정해 주고, 3년 동안 그렇게 기르게 했다. 그 기간이 끝나면 그들을 왕 앞에 세워 시중들게 할 작정이었다.

And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.

그들 중에 유다 자손 곧 다니엘과 하나냐와 미사엘과 아사랴가 있었더니

풀이: 그들 가운데 유다 출신으로 다니엘, 하나냐, 미사엘, 아사랴가 있었다.

Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

환관장이 그들의 이름을 고쳐 다니엘은 벨드사살이라 하고 하나냐는 사드락이라 하고 미사엘은 메삭이라 하고 아사랴는 아벳느고라 하였더라

풀이: 환관장은 그들에게 새 이름을 붙였다. 다니엘은 벨드사살, 하나냐는 사드락, 미사엘은 메삭, 아사랴는 아벳느고라 했다.

Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abed–nego.

다니엘은 뜻을 정하여 왕의 진미와 그의 마시는 포도주로 자기를 더럽히지 아니하리라 하고 자기를 더럽히지 않게 하기를 환관장에게 구하니

풀이: 그러나 다니엘은 왕의 진귀한 음식과 그가 마시는 포도주로 자신을 더럽히지 않겠다고 마음을 굳혔다. 그래서 환관장에게 자신을 더럽히지 않게 해 달라고 청했다.

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

하나님이 다니엘로 환관장에게 은혜와 긍휼을 얻게 하신지라

풀이: 신은 다니엘이 환관장에게서 호의와 동정을 얻도록 해 주었다.

Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.

환관장이 다니엘에게 이르되 내가 내 주 왕을 두려워하노라 그가 너희 먹을 것과 너희 마실 것을 지정하셨거늘 너희의 얼굴이 초췌하여 동무 소년들만 못한 것을 그로 보시게 할 것이 무엇이냐 그렇게 되면 너희 까닭에 내 머리가 왕 앞에서 위태하게 되리라 하니라

풀이: 그러나 환관장은 다니엘에게 말했다. "나는 내 주인이신 왕이 두렵다. 그분이 너희가 먹고 마실 것을 직접 정해 주셨는데, 너희 얼굴이 또래 소년들보다 못해 보이기라도 하면 어쩌겠느냐? 그렇게 되면 너희 때문에 내 목이 왕 앞에서 위태로워진다."

And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.

환관장이 세워 다니엘과 하나냐와 미사엘과 아사랴를 감독하게 한 자에게 다니엘이 말하되

풀이: 그러자 다니엘은, 환관장이 자기와 하나냐와 미사엘과 아사랴를 맡겨 둔 관리인에게 말했다.

Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,

청하오니 당신의 종들을 열흘 동안 시험하여 채식을 주어 먹게 하고 물을 주어 마시게 한 후에

풀이: "부디 당신의 종들을 10일만 시험해 보십시오. 우리에게는 채소만 주어 먹게 하고 물만 주어 마시게 하십시오."

Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.

당신 앞에서 우리의 얼굴과 왕의 진미를 먹는 소년들의 얼굴을 비교하여 보아서 보이는대로 종들에게 처분하소서 하매

풀이: "그런 다음 당신 앞에서 우리 얼굴과, 왕의 진미를 먹는 소년들의 얼굴을 견주어 보시고, 보이는 대로 당신의 종들을 처분하십시오."

Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king’s meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.

그가 그들의 말을 좇아 열흘을 시험하더니

풀이: 관리인은 그 말을 받아들여, 10일 동안 그들을 시험해 보았다.

So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.

열흘 후에 그들의 얼굴이 더욱 아름답고 살이 더욱 윤택하여 왕의 진미를 먹는 모든 소년보다 나아 보인지라

풀이: 10일이 지나자 그들의 얼굴은 오히려 더 좋아 보였고 살도 더 올라, 왕의 진미를 먹는 어떤 소년보다도 나아 보였다.

And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat.

이러므로 감독하는 자가 그들에게 분정된 진미와 마실 포도주를 제하고 채식을 주니라

풀이: 그래서 관리인은 그들에게 돌아갈 진미와 마실 포도주를 거두고, 대신 채소를 주었다.

Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.

하나님이 이 네 소년에게 지식을 얻게 하시며 모든 학문과 재주에 명철하게 하신 외에 다니엘은 또 모든 이상과 몽조를 깨달아 알더라

풀이: 신은 이 네 소년에게 온갖 학문과 지식을 깨칠 명철을 주었다. 게다가 다니엘에게는 온갖 환상과 꿈을 풀어내는 능력까지 주었다.

As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

왕의 명한바 그들을 불러 들일 기한이 찼으므로 환관장이 그들을 데리고 느부갓네살 앞으로 들어갔더니

풀이: 왕이 정한 기한이 차자, 환관장은 그들을 느부갓네살 앞으로 데려갔다.

Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.

왕이 그들과 말하여 보매 무리 중에 다니엘과 하나냐와 미사엘과 아사랴와 같은 자 없으므로 그들로 왕 앞에 모시게 하고

풀이: 왕이 그들과 이야기를 나눠 보니, 그 모두 가운데 다니엘과 하나냐와 미사엘과 아사랴만 한 자가 없었다. 그래서 그들은 왕을 곁에서 모시게 되었다.

And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.

왕이 그들에게 모든 일을 묻는 중에 그 지혜와 총명이 온 나라 박수와 술객보다 십배나 나은줄을 아니라

풀이: 왕이 온갖 일을 물어볼 때마다, 그들의 지혜와 분별은 온 나라의 마술사와 주술사를 다 합친 것보다 열 배는 뛰어났다.

And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

다니엘은 고레스왕 원년까지 있으니라

풀이: 다니엘은 고레스 왕 원년까지 그 자리에 있었다.

And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.
