다니엘 5장

벨사살왕이 그 귀인 일천명을 위하여 큰 잔치를 배설하고 그 일천명 앞에서 술을 마시니라

풀이: 벨사살 왕이 자기 귀족 천 명을 불러 큰 잔치를 열고, 그 천 명 앞에서 술을 마셨다.

Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.

벨사살이 술을 마실 때에 명하여 그 부친 느부갓네살이 예루살렘 전에서 취하여 온 금, 은 기명을 가져오게 하였으니 이는 왕과 귀인들과 왕후들과 빈궁들이 다 그것으로 마시려 함이었더라

풀이: 술기운이 오른 벨사살은, 자기 아버지 느부갓네살이 예루살렘 신전에서 빼앗아 온 금과 은으로 된 그릇들을 가져오라 명했다. 왕과 귀족들, 왕비들과 후궁들이 다 함께 그 그릇으로 술을 마시려는 것이었다.

Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.

이에 예루살렘 하나님의 전 성소 중에서 취하여 온 금 기명을 가져오매 왕이 그 귀인들과 왕후들과 빈궁들로 더불어 그것으로 마시고

풀이: 그래서 예루살렘에 있던 신의 신전 성소에서 빼앗아 온 금 그릇들을 가져왔고, 왕은 귀족들과 왕비들과 후궁들과 더불어 그것으로 술을 마셨다.

Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.

무리가 술을 마시고는 그 금, 은, 동, 철, 목, 석으로 만든 신들을 찬양하니라

풀이: 그들은 술을 마시며, 금과 은과 청동과 쇠와 나무와 돌로 만든 신들을 찬양했다.

They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

그 때에 사람의 손가락이 나타나서 왕궁 촛대 맞은편 분벽에 글자를 쓰는데 왕이 그 글자 쓰는 손가락을 본지라

풀이: 바로 그 순간, 사람의 손가락이 나타나더니 왕궁 등잔대 맞은편 회벽에 글자를 쓰기 시작했다. 왕은 글씨를 쓰는 그 손을 똑똑히 보았다.

In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king’s palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

이에 왕의 즐기던 빛이 변하고 그 생각이 번민하여 넓적다리 마디가 녹는듯하고 그 무릎이 서로 부딪힌지라

풀이: 그러자 왕의 얼굴에서 핏기가 가시고, 마음은 두려움에 휩싸였다. 허리가 풀려 다리에 힘이 빠지고, 두 무릎이 덜덜 떨려 서로 부딪혔다.

Then the king’s countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.

왕이 크게 소리하여 술객과 갈대아 술사와 점장이를 불러 오게 하고 바벨론 박사들에게 일러 가로되 무론 누구든지 이 글자를 읽고 그 해석을 내게 보이면 자주옷을 입히고 금 사슬로 그 목에 드리우고 그로 나라의 세째 치리자를 삼으리라 하니라

풀이: 왕은 큰 소리로 주술사와 갈대아 점성가와 점쟁이들을 불러들이게 했다. 그리고 바벨론의 현자들에게 말했다. "누구든 이 글자를 읽고 그 뜻을 풀어 보이는 자에게는 자주색 옷을 입히고 금 목걸이를 목에 걸어 주며, 이 나라의 셋째 가는 통치자로 삼으리라."

The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.

때에 왕의 박사가 다 들어 왔으나 능히 그 글자를 읽지 못하며 그 해석을 왕께 알게 하지 못하는지라

풀이: 그러나 왕의 현자들이 다 들어왔지만, 아무도 그 글자를 읽지 못했고 그 뜻을 왕에게 알려 주지도 못했다.

Then came in all the king’s wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof.

그러므로 벨사살왕이 크게 번민하여 그 낯빛이 변하였고 귀인들도 다 놀라니라

풀이: 그러자 벨사살 왕은 더욱 두려움에 사로잡혀 얼굴빛이 하얗게 질렸고, 귀족들도 모두 어쩔 줄 몰랐다.

Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied.

태후가 왕과 그 귀인들의 말로 인하여 잔치하는 궁에 들어 왔더니 이에 말하여 가로되 왕이여 만세수를 하옵소서 왕의 생각을 번민케 말며 낯빛을 변할 것이 아니니이다

풀이: 왕과 귀족들이 떠드는 소리를 듣고, 태후가 잔치가 벌어진 연회장으로 들어왔다. 그러고는 말했다. "왕이시여, 만수무강하소서. 마음을 그렇게 졸이지 마시고, 얼굴빛을 흐리지 마소서."

Now the queen, by reason of the words of the king and his lords, came into the banquet house: and the queen spake and said, O king, live for ever: let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed:

왕의 나라에 거룩한 신들의 영이 있는 사람이 있으니 곧 왕의 부친 때에 있던 자로서 명철과 총명과 지혜가 있어 신들의 지혜와 같은 자라 왕의 부친 느부갓네살왕이 그를 세워 박수와 술객과 갈대아 술사와 점장이의 어른을 삼으셨으니

풀이: "왕의 나라에는 거룩한 신들의 영이 깃든 사람이 하나 있습니다. 왕의 아버님 시대에도 그에게서 명철과 통찰과 신들의 지혜에 버금가는 지혜가 발견되었기에, 아버님이신 느부갓네살 왕께서 그를 세워 마술사와 주술사와 갈대아 점성가와 점쟁이의 우두머리로 삼으셨습니다."

There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;

왕이 벨드사살이라 이름한 이 다니엘의 마음이 민첩하고 지식과 총명이 있어 능히 꿈을 해석하며 은밀한 말을 밝히며 의문을 파할 수 있었음이라 이제 다니엘을 부르소서 그리하시면 그가 그 해석을 알려드리리이다

풀이: "그 다니엘 — 왕께서 벨드사살이라 이름 붙이신 그 사람은 비범한 정신과 지식과 통찰을 지녀, 꿈을 풀고 어려운 말을 밝히며 얽힌 수수께끼를 푸는 능력이 있었습니다. 그러니 이제 다니엘을 부르소서. 그가 그 뜻을 알려 드릴 것입니다."

Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.

이에 다니엘이 부름을 입어 왕의 앞에 나오매 왕이 다니엘에게 말하여 가로되 네가 우리 부왕이 유다에서 사로잡아 온 유다 자손 중의 그 다니엘이냐

풀이: 이에 다니엘이 왕 앞으로 불려 나왔다. 왕이 다니엘에게 말했다. "네가 바로 내 부왕이 유다에서 사로잡아 온 유다 포로 가운데 그 다니엘이냐?"

Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry?

내가 네게 대하여 들은즉 네 안에는 신들의 영이 있으므로 네가 명철과 총명과 비상한 지혜가 있다 하도다

풀이: "네 안에 신들의 영이 있어, 너에게 명철과 통찰과 빼어난 지혜가 있다는 말을 내가 들었다."

I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee.

지금 여러 박사와 술객을 내 앞에 불러다가 그들로 이 글을 읽고 그 해석을 내게 알게 하라 하였으나 그들이 다 능히 그 해석을 내게 보이지 못하였느니라

풀이: "방금 현자들과 주술사들을 내 앞에 불러다가 이 글을 읽고 그 뜻을 알려 보라 했으나, 그들은 누구도 이 일의 뜻을 풀어내지 못했다."

And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing:

내가 네게 대하여 들은즉 너는 해석을 잘하고 의문을 파한다 하도다 그런즉 이제 네가 이 글을 읽고 그 해석을 내게 알게 하면 네게 자주옷을 입히고 금 사슬을 네 목에 드리우고 너로 나라의 세째 치리자를 삼으리라

풀이: "그런데 너는 뜻을 잘 풀고 얽힌 문제를 푼다고 들었다. 그러니 이제 네가 이 글을 읽고 그 뜻을 내게 알려 준다면, 너에게 자주색 옷을 입히고 금 목걸이를 목에 걸어 주며, 이 나라의 셋째 가는 통치자로 삼으리라."

And I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.

다니엘이 왕에게 대답하여 가로되 왕의 예물은 왕이 스스로 취하시며 왕의 상급은 다른 사람에게 주옵소서 그럴찌라도 내가 왕을 위하여 이 글을 읽으며 그 해석을 아시게 하리이다

풀이: 다니엘이 왕에게 대답했다. "왕의 선물은 왕께서 가지시고, 상은 다른 사람에게 주십시오. 그래도 나는 왕을 위해 이 글을 읽고 그 뜻을 알려 드리겠습니다."

Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.

왕이여 지극히 높으신 하나님이 왕의 부친 느부갓네살에게 나라와 큰 권세와 영광과 위엄을 주셨고

풀이: "왕이시여, 가장 높으신 신께서 왕의 아버님 느부갓네살에게 나라와 큰 권세와 영광과 위엄을 주셨습니다."

O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:

그에게 큰 권세를 주셨으므로 백성들과 나라들과 각 방언하는 자들이 그의 앞에서 떨며 두려워하였으며 그는 임의로 죽이며 임의로 살리며 임의로 높이며 임의로 낮추었더니

풀이: "신이 그에게 큰 권세를 주셨기에, 모든 백성과 민족과 온갖 언어를 쓰는 자들이 그 앞에서 떨며 두려워했습니다. 그는 죽이고 싶은 자를 죽이고, 살리고 싶은 자를 살렸으며, 높이고 싶은 자를 높이고, 낮추고 싶은 자를 낮췄습니다."

And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down.

그가 마음이 높아지며 뜻이 강퍅하여 교만을 행하므로 그 왕위가 폐한바 되며 그 영광을 빼앗기고

풀이: "그러나 그의 마음이 우쭐해지고 뜻이 완고해져 교만하게 굴자, 그는 왕좌에서 끌어내려졌고 그 영광을 빼앗겼습니다."

But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:

인생 중에서 쫓겨나서 그 마음이 들짐승의 마음과 같았고 또 들나귀와 함께 거하며 또 소처럼 풀을 먹으며 그 몸이 하늘 이슬에 젖었으며 지극히 높으신 하나님이 인간 나라를 다스리시며 자기의 뜻대로 누구든지 그 위에 세우시는줄을 알기까지 이르게 되었었나이다

풀이: "그는 사람들 가운데서 쫓겨나 그 마음이 짐승의 마음처럼 되었고, 들나귀와 함께 지내며 소처럼 풀을 뜯고 그 몸이 하늘 이슬에 젖었습니다. 마침내 그는, 가장 높으신 신이 사람의 나라를 다스리시며 그 위에 누구든 뜻대로 세우신다는 것을 깨닫기에 이르렀습니다."

And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.

벨사살이여 왕은 그의 아들이 되어서 이것을 다 알고도 오히려 마음을 낮추지 아니하고

풀이: "그런데 그의 아들이신 벨사살 왕이시여, 왕은 이 모든 일을 알고도 마음을 낮추지 않으셨습니다."

And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;

도리어 스스로 높여서 하늘의 주재를 거역하고 그 전 기명을 왕의 앞으로 가져다가 왕과 귀인들과 왕후들과 빈궁들이 다 그것으로 술을 마시고 왕이 또 보지도 듣지도 알지도 못하는 금, 은, 동, 철과 목, 석으로 만든 신상들을 찬양하고 도리어 왕의 호흡을 주장하시고 왕의 모든 길을 작정하시는 하나님께는 영광을 돌리지 아니한지라

풀이: "도리어 스스로 높여 하늘의 주인을 거역하셨습니다. 그분의 신전 그릇들을 왕 앞으로 가져다가, 왕과 귀족들과 왕비들과 후궁들이 다 함께 그것으로 술을 마셨습니다. 그러고는 보지도 듣지도 알지도 못하는, 은과 금과 청동과 쇠와 나무와 돌로 만든 신들을 찬양하면서, 정작 왕의 숨을 손에 쥐고 계시고 왕의 모든 길을 정하시는 신께는 영광을 돌리지 않으셨습니다."

But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:

이러므로 그의 앞에서 이 손가락이 나와서 이 글을 기록하였나이다

풀이: "그래서 그분 앞에서 이 손이 보내져, 이 글을 적은 것입니다."

Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.

기록한 글자는 이것이니 곧 메네 메네 데겔 우바르신이라

풀이: "적힌 글자는 이것입니다 — 메네, 메네, 데겔, 우바르신."

And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.

그 뜻을 해석하건대 메네는 하나님이 이미 왕의 나라의 시대를 세어서 그것을 끝나게 하셨다 함이요

풀이: "그 뜻을 풀면 이렇습니다. 메네 — 신이 이미 왕의 나라의 날수를 세어 그것을 끝맺으셨다는 것입니다."

This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.

데겔은 왕이 저울에 달려서 부족함이 뵈었다 함이요

풀이: "데겔 — 왕이 저울에 달려 보니 모자란 것으로 드러났다는 것입니다."

TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.

베레스는 왕의 나라가 나뉘어서 메대와 바사 사람에게 준바 되었다 함이니이다

풀이: "베레스 — 왕의 나라가 둘로 갈라져 메대와 바사 사람에게 넘겨졌다는 것입니다."

PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.

이에 벨사살이 명하여 무리로 다니엘에게 자주옷을 입히게 하며 금 사슬로 그의 목에 드리우게 하고 그를 위하여 조서를 내려 나라의 세째 치리자를 삼으니라

풀이: 그러자 벨사살은 명을 내려 다니엘에게 자주색 옷을 입히고 금 목걸이를 목에 걸어 주게 했으며, 그를 나라의 셋째 가는 통치자로 삼는다는 조서를 내렸다.

Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

그날 밤에 갈대아왕 벨사살이 죽임을 당하였고

풀이: 바로 그날 밤, 갈대아 사람의 왕 벨사살은 죽임을 당했다.

In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.

메대 사람 다리오가 나라를 얻었는데 때에 다리오는 육십 이세였더라

풀이: 그리고 메대 사람 다리오가 그 나라를 차지했다. 그때 다리오는 예순두 살쯤이었다.

And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.
