역대하 20장

그 후에 모압 자손과 암몬 자손이 몇 마온 사람과 함께 와서 여호사밧을 치고자 한지라

풀이: 그 일이 있은 뒤, 모압 사람들과 암몬 사람들이 또 다른 무리까지 끌어들여 여호사밧을 치러 쳐들어왔다.

It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.

혹이 와서 여호사밧에게 고하여 가로되 큰 무리가 바다 저편 아람에서 왕을 치러 오는데 이제 하사손다말 곧 엔게디에 있나이다

풀이: 어떤 이들이 여호사밧에게 달려와 알렸다. "바다 건너 에돔 쪽에서 큰 무리가 왕을 치러 오고 있습니다. 지금 하사손다말, 곧 엔게디에 진을 쳤습니다."

Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazon–tamar, which is En–gedi.

여호사밧이 두려워하여 여호와께로 낯을 향하여 간구하고 온 유다 백성에게 금식하라 공포하매

풀이: 여호사밧은 두려웠다. 그러나 그는 곧장 신을 찾기로 마음을 다잡았고, 온 유다에 금식을 선포했다.

And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

유다 사람이 여호와께 도우심을 구하려 하여 유다 모든 성읍에서 모여와서 여호와께 간구하더라

풀이: 유다 사람들이 신께 도움을 구하려고 모여들었다. 유다의 모든 성읍에서 사람들이 올라와 신을 찾았다.

And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the Lord: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.

여호사밧이 여호와의 전 새 뜰 앞에서 유다와 예루살렘의 회중 가운데 서서

풀이: 여호사밧은 신의 성전 새 뜰 앞, 유다와 예루살렘 사람들이 모인 한가운데 서서

And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court,

가로되 우리 열조의 하나님 여호와여 주는 하늘에서 하나님이 아니시니이까 이방 사람의 모든 나라를 다스리지 아니하시나이까 주의 손에 권세와 능력이 있사오니 능히 막을 사람이 없나이다

풀이: 이렇게 아뢰었다. "우리 조상들의 신이여, 당신은 하늘에 계신 신이 아니십니까. 모든 이방 나라를 다스리시는 분이 아니십니까. 당신의 손에 권세와 힘이 있어, 누구도 당신을 막아설 수 없습니다.

And said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?

우리 하나님이시여 전에 이 땅 거민을 주의 백성 이스라엘 앞에서 쫓아내시고 그 땅으로 주의 벗 아브라함의 자손에게 영영히 주지 아니하셨나이까

풀이: 우리의 신이여, 당신은 이 땅에 살던 이들을 당신의 백성 이스라엘 앞에서 몰아내시고, 그 땅을 당신의 벗 아브라함의 후손에게 영영히 주신 분이 아니십니까.

Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?

저희가 이 땅에 거하여 주의 이름을 위하여 한 성소를 건축하고 이르기를

풀이: 그들은 이 땅에 자리 잡고, 당신의 이름을 위하여 여기에 한 성소를 지으며 이렇게 말했습니다.

And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,

만일 재앙이나 난리나 견책이나 온역이나 기근이 우리에게 임하면 주의 이름이 이 전에 있으니 우리가 이 전 앞과 주의 앞에 서서 이 환난 가운데서 주께 부르짖은즉 들으시고 구원하시리라 하였나이다

풀이: '재앙이나 전쟁이나 심판이나 전염병이나 굶주림이 우리에게 닥칠 때, 당신의 이름이 깃든 이 집 앞, 당신 앞에 서서 이 고난 가운데 부르짖으면, 당신이 들으시고 구하실 것입니다.'

If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.

옛적에 이스라엘이 애굽 땅에서 나올 때에 암몬 자손과 모압 자손과 세일산 사람을 침노하기를 주께서 용납하지 아니하시므로 이에 치우쳐 저희를 떠나고 멸하지 아니하였거늘

풀이: 그런데 이제 보십시오. 이스라엘이 이집트에서 나오던 때, 당신이 침범하지 못하게 하셔서 이스라엘이 비켜 가고 멸하지 않았던 저 암몬과 모압과 세일 산 사람들이 —

And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;

이제 저희가 우리에게 갚는 것을 보옵소서 저희가 와서 주께서 우리에게 주신 주의 기업에서 우리를 쫓아 내고자 하나이다

풀이: 보십시오, 그들이 우리에게 이렇게 갚습니다. 당신이 우리에게 물려주신 당신의 땅에서 우리를 몰아내려고 쳐들어옵니다.

Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.

우리 하나님이여 저희를 징벌하지 아니하시나이까 우리를 치러 오는 이 큰 무리를 우리가 대적할 능력이 없고 어떻게 할줄도 알지 못하옵고 오직 주만 바라보나이다 하고

풀이: 우리의 신이여, 그들을 심판하지 않으시겠습니까. 우리를 치러 오는 이 큰 무리를 맞설 힘이 우리에게는 없고, 어떻게 해야 할지도 모릅니다. 다만 우리 눈은 당신을 향해 있을 뿐입니다."

O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.

유다 모든 사람은 그 아내와 자녀와 어린 자로 더불어 여호와 앞에 섰더라

풀이: 유다 사람 모두가, 어린아이와 아내와 자녀들까지 데리고 신 앞에 서 있었다.

And all Judah stood before the Lord, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

여호와의 신이 회중 가운데서 레위 사람 야하시엘에게 임하셨으니 저는 아삽 자손 맛다냐의 현손이요 여이엘의 증손이요 브나야의 손자요 스가랴의 아들이더라

풀이: 그때 신의 영이 회중 한가운데 있던 레위 사람 야하시엘에게 임했다. 그는 아삽 가문 사람으로, 맛다냐의 현손이요 여이엘의 증손이요 브나야의 손자요 스가랴의 아들이었다.

Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the Lord in the midst of the congregation;

야하시엘이 가로되 온 유다와 예루살렘 거민과 여호사밧왕이여 들을찌어다 여호와께서 너희에게 말씀하시기를 이 큰 무리로 인하여 두려워하거나 놀라지 말라 이 전쟁이 너희에게 속한 것이 아니요 하나님께 속한 것이니라

풀이: 야하시엘이 외쳤다. "온 유다와 예루살렘 사람들과 여호사밧 왕이여, 들으십시오. 신이 여러분에게 이렇게 말씀하십니다. 이 큰 무리를 보고 두려워하지도, 떨지도 마십시오. 이 전쟁은 여러분의 것이 아니라 신의 것입니다.

And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

내일 너희는 마주 내려 가라 저희가 시스 고개로 말미암아 올라 오리니 너희가 골짜기 어귀 여루엘 들 앞에서 만나려니와

풀이: 내일 그들을 향해 내려가십시오. 그들은 시스 고개로 올라올 것이고, 여러분은 여루엘 광야 앞 골짜기 어귀에서 그들과 마주칠 것입니다.

To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

이 전쟁에는 너희가 싸울 것이 없나니 항오를 이루고 서서 너희와 함께한 여호와가 구원하는 것을 보라 유다와 예루살렘아 너희는 두려워하며 놀라지 말고 내일 저희를 마주 나가라 여호와가 너희와 함께 하리라 하셨느니라 하매

풀이: 이 전쟁에서 여러분은 싸울 필요가 없습니다. 그저 자리를 잡고 가만히 서서, 신이 여러분과 함께 베푸시는 구원을 지켜보십시오. 유다와 예루살렘이여, 두려워하지도 떨지도 마십시오. 내일 그들을 향해 나아가십시오. 신이 여러분과 함께하실 것입니다."

Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you.

여호사밧이 몸을 굽혀 얼굴을 땅에 대니 온 유다와 예루살렘 거민들도 여호와 앞에 엎드려 경배하고

풀이: 여호사밧은 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드렸고, 온 유다와 예루살렘 사람들도 신 앞에 엎드려 경배했다.

And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the Lord, worshipping the Lord.

그핫 자손과 고라 자손에게 속한 레위 사람들은 서서 심히 큰 소리로 이스라엘 하나님 여호와를 찬송하니라

풀이: 그핫 자손과 고라 자손에 속한 레위 사람들은 일어서서, 이스라엘의 신을 향해 큰 소리로 찬양했다.

And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice on high.

이에 백성들이 일찌기 일어나서 드고아 들로 나가니라 나갈 때에 여호사밧이 서서 가로되 유다와 예루살렘 거민들아 내 말을 들을찌어다 너희는 너희 하나님 여호와를 신뢰하라 그리하면 견고히 서리라 그 선지자를 신뢰하라 그리하면 형통하리라 하고

풀이: 그들은 아침 일찍 일어나 드고아 광야로 나아갔다. 나아갈 때 여호사밧이 서서 말했다. "유다와 예루살렘 사람들이여, 내 말을 들으십시오. 여러분의 신을 신뢰하십시오. 그러면 굳게 설 것입니다. 그분의 예언자를 신뢰하십시오. 그러면 잘될 것입니다."

And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

백성으로 더불어 의논하고 노래하는 자를 택하여 거룩한 예복을 입히고 군대 앞에서 행하며 여호와를 찬송하여 이르기를 여호와께 감사하세 그 자비하심이 영원하도다 하게 하였더니

풀이: 그는 백성과 의논한 뒤, 노래하는 이들을 세웠다. 그들에게 거룩한 예복을 입혀 군대 앞에서 행진하며 신을 찬양하게 했다. "신께 감사하라, 그 한결같은 사랑이 영원하다" 하고 노래하게 한 것이다.

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the Lord, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for ever.

그 노래와 찬송이 시작될 때에 여호와께서 복병을 두어 유다를 치러 온 암몬 자손과 모압과 세일산 사람을 치게 하시므로 저희가 패하였으니

풀이: 그들이 노래와 찬양을 시작하는 바로 그 순간, 신은 유다를 치러 온 암몬과 모압과 세일 산 사람들에게 매복병을 두어 그들을 치게 했다. 그리하여 그들은 무너졌다.

And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

곧 암몬과 모압 자손이 일어나 세일산 거민을 쳐서 진멸하고 세일 거민을 멸한 후에는 저희가 피차에 살륙하였더라

풀이: 암몬과 모압 사람들이 세일 산 사람들을 향해 들고일어나 그들을 남김없이 죽여 없앴다. 세일 사람들을 다 처치한 뒤에는, 이번엔 자기들끼리 서로를 죽였다.

For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.

유다 사람이 들 망대에 이르러 그 무리를 본즉 땅에 엎드러진 시체뿐이요 하나도 피한 자가 없는지라

풀이: 유다 사람들이 광야의 망대에 이르러 그 무리를 바라보니, 땅에 쓰러진 시체뿐이었다. 빠져나간 자가 하나도 없었다.

And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.

여호사밧과 그 백성이 가서 적군의 물건을 취할쌔 본즉 그 가운데에 재물과 의복과 보물이 많이 있는 고로 각기 취하는데 그 물건이 너무 많아 능히 가져갈 수 없을만큼 많으므로 사흘 동안에 취하고

풀이: 여호사밧과 그 백성이 적군의 물건을 거두러 가 보니, 시체들 사이에 재물과 값진 물건과 보석이 넘쳐났다. 그들은 그것을 벗겨 챙겼는데, 도무지 다 가져갈 수 없을 만큼 많아서 거두는 데만 3일이 걸렸다.

And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.

제 사일에 무리가 브라가 골짜기에 모여서 거기서 여호와를 송축한지라 그러므로 오늘날까지 그곳을 브라가 골짜기라 일컫더라

풀이: 4일째 되는 날, 그들은 브라가 골짜기에 모여 거기서 신을 송축했다. 그래서 오늘날까지 그곳을 브라가 골짜기라 부른다.

And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the Lord: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.

유다와 예루살렘 모든 사람이 여호사밧을 선두로 즐거이 예루살렘으로 돌아왔으니 이는 여호와께서 저희로 그 적군을 이김을 인하여 즐거워하게 하셨음이라

풀이: 유다와 예루살렘 모든 사람이 여호사밧을 앞세우고 기쁨에 차 예루살렘으로 돌아왔다. 신이 그들의 적군을 무찔러 그들을 기뻐하게 했기 때문이다.

Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the Lord had made them to rejoice over their enemies.

무리가 비파와 수금과 나팔을 합주하고 예루살렘에 이르러 여호와의 전에 나아가니라

풀이: 무리는 비파와 수금과 나팔을 함께 울리며 예루살렘에 들어와 신의 성전으로 나아갔다.

And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the Lord.

이방 모든 나라가 여호와께서 이스라엘의 적군을 치셨다 함을 듣고 하나님을 두려워한고로

풀이: 주변 모든 나라가, 신이 이스라엘의 적군을 직접 치셨다는 소식을 듣고 신을 두려워했다.

And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the Lord fought against the enemies of Israel.

여호사밧의 나라가 태평하였으니 이는 그 하나님이 사방에서 저희에게 평강을 주셨음이더라

풀이: 그리하여 여호사밧의 나라는 평온했다. 그의 신이 사방에서 그에게 안식을 주었기 때문이다.

So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.

여호사밧이 유다 왕이 되어 위에 나아갈 때에 나이 삼십 오세라 예루살렘에서 이십 오년을 치리하니라 그 모친의 이름은 아수바라 실히의 딸이더라

풀이: 여호사밧은 유다의 왕이 되었다. 왕위에 오를 때 그의 나이는 35세였고, 예루살렘에서 25년을 다스렸다. 그의 어머니 이름은 아수바로, 실히의 딸이었다.

And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

여호사밧이 그 부친 아사의 길로 행하여 돌이켜 떠나지 아니하고 여호와 보시기에 정직히 행하였으나

풀이: 그는 아버지 아사가 걷던 길을 따라 그 길에서 벗어나지 않았고, 신이 보시기에 옳은 일을 행했다.

And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the Lord.

산당은 폐하지 아니하였으므로 백성이 오히려 마음을 정하여 그 열조의 하나님께로 돌아오지 아니하였더라

풀이: 다만 산당은 없애지 못했다. 백성이 아직 마음을 다잡아 조상들의 신께로 돌아오지 못했기 때문이다.

Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.

이 외에 여호사밧의 시종 행적이 하나니의 아들 예후의 글에 다 기록되었고 그 글은 이스라엘 열왕기에 올랐더라

풀이: 이 밖에 여호사밧의 처음부터 끝까지의 행적은 하나니의 아들 예후의 글에 다 기록되어 있고, 그 글은 이스라엘 열왕기에 실려 있다.

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.

유다 왕 여호사밧이 나중에 이스라엘 왕 아하시야와 교제하였는데 아하시야는 심히 악을 행하는 자이었더라

풀이: 그 뒤 유다 왕 여호사밧은 이스라엘 왕 아하시야와 손을 잡았는데, 아하시야는 몹시 악한 자였다.

And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:

두 왕이 서로 결합하고 배를 지어 다시스로 보내고자 하여 에시온게벨에서 배를 지었더니

풀이: 두 왕은 함께 손잡고 다시스로 보낼 배들을 만들기로 하여, 에시온게벨에서 배를 지었다.

And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Ezion–geber.

마레사 사람 도다와후의 아들 엘리에셀이 여호사밧을 향하여 예언하여 가로되 왕이 아하시야와 교제하는고로 여호와께서 왕의 지은 것을 파하시리라 하더니 이에 그 배가 파상하여 다시스로 가지 못하였더라

풀이: 그러자 마레사 사람 도다와후의 아들 엘리에셀이 여호사밧을 두고 예언했다. "왕이 아하시야와 손을 잡았으니, 신이 왕이 지은 것을 부수실 것입니다." 과연 그 배들은 부서져 다시스로 가지 못했다.

Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the Lord hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
