에스겔 31장

제 십 일년 삼월 초 일일에 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하여 가라사대

풀이: 11년째 되던 해 셋째 달 1일, 신의 말씀이 내게 임했다.

And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the third month, in the first day of the month, that the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

인자야 너는 애굽 왕 바로와 그 무리에게 이르기를 네 큰 위엄을 뉘게 비하랴

풀이: 사람아, 이집트 왕 파라오와 그 백성에게 전하라. 그토록 위대하다는 너, 도대체 누구에게 견줄 수 있겠느냐?

Son of man, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude; Whom art thou like in thy greatness?

볼찌어다 앗수르 사람은 가지가 아름답고 그늘은 삼림의 그늘 같으며 키가 높고 꼭대기가 구름에 닿은 레바논 백향목이었느니라

풀이: 보라, 앗수르를 떠올려 보라. 레바논의 한 그루 백향목 같았다. 가지가 아름답고, 우거진 그늘은 온 숲을 덮을 듯했으며, 키가 어찌나 큰지 그 꼭대기가 구름 사이에 솟아 있었다.

Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with a shadowing shroud, and of an high stature; and his top was among the thick boughs.

물들이 그것을 기르며 깊은 물이 그것을 자라게 하며 강들이 그 심긴 곳을 둘러 흐르며 보의 물이 들의 모든 나무에까지 미치매

풀이: 물이 그 나무를 키웠고, 땅속 깊은 샘이 그를 높이 자라게 했다. 강줄기가 그 심긴 자리를 빙 둘러 흘렀고, 거기서 갈라진 물줄기가 들의 다른 모든 나무에까지 흘러갔다.

The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running round about his plants, and sent out her little rivers unto all the trees of the field.

그 나무가 물이 많으므로 키가 들의 모든 나무보다 높으며 굵은 가지가 번성하며 가는 가지가 길게 빼어났고

풀이: 물이 넘쳐났기에 그 나무는 들의 어떤 나무보다 높이 솟았고, 굵은 가지가 무성하게 뻗고 잔가지가 길게 자라났다.

Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of the multitude of waters, when he shot forth.

공중의 모든 새가 그 큰 가지에 깃들이며 들의 모든 짐승이 그 가는 가지 밑에 새끼를 낳으며 모든 큰 나라가 그 그늘 아래 거하였었느니라

풀이: 하늘의 온갖 새가 그 큰 가지에 둥지를 틀었고, 들의 온갖 짐승이 그 가지 아래에서 새끼를 낳았으며, 강대한 나라들이 모두 그 그늘 아래 깃들여 살았다.

All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt all great nations.

그 뿌리가 큰 물가에 있으므로 그 나무가 크고 가지가 길어 모양이 아름다우매

풀이: 뿌리가 풍부한 물가에 박혀 있었기에, 그 나무는 우람하고 가지가 길어 더없이 아름다웠다.

Thus was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his root was by great waters.

하나님의 동산의 백향목이 능히 그를 가리우지 못하며 잣나무가 그 굵은 가지만 못하며 단풍나무가 그 가는 가지만 못하며 하나님의 동산의 아무 나무도 그 아름다운 모양과 같지 못하였도다

풀이: 신의 동산에 있는 백향목조차 그를 가릴 수 없었다. 잣나무도 그 굵은 가지에 미치지 못했고, 단풍나무도 그 잔가지만 못했으니, 신의 동산 어느 나무도 그 아름다움에 견줄 수 없었다.

The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: the fir trees were not like his boughs, and the chesnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his beauty.

내가 그 가지로 많게 하여 모양이 아름답게 하였더니 하나님의 동산 에덴에 있는 모든 나무가 다 투기하였느니라

풀이: 내가 가지를 무성하게 하여 그토록 아름답게 만들었더니, 신의 동산 에덴에 있는 모든 나무가 그를 시기했다.

I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him.

그러므로 나 주 여호와가 말하노라 그의 키가 높고 꼭대기가 구름에 닿아서 높이 빼어났으므로 마음이 교만하였은즉

풀이: 그러므로 주 신이 이렇게 말한다. 그 나무가 키를 높이 세우고 그 꼭대기를 구름 사이로 치솟게 하더니, 제 높이에 취해 마음이 교만해졌다.

Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

내가 열국의 능한 자의 손에 붙일찌라 그가 임의로 대접할 것은 내가 그의 악을 인하여 쫓아 내었음이라

풀이: 그래서 나는 그를 뭇 나라를 호령하는 강자의 손에 넘겨주었다. 그가 마음대로 처분하게 했으니, 이는 그 악함 때문에 내가 그를 내쫓은 것이다.

I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness.

열국의 강포한 다른 민족이 그를 찍어 버렸으므로 그 가는 가지가 산과 모든 골짜기에 떨어졌고 그 굵은 가지가 그 땅 모든 물 가에 꺾어졌으며 세상 모든 백성이 그를 버리고 그 그늘 아래서 떠나매

풀이: 뭇 나라 가운데 가장 잔혹한 이방인들이 그를 베어 쓰러뜨려 버렸다. 잔가지는 산과 골짜기마다 흩어졌고, 굵은 가지는 그 땅의 물길마다 꺾여 나뒹굴었으며, 세상 모든 백성이 그 그늘을 버리고 떠나갔다.

And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him.

공중의 모든 새가 그 넘어진 나무에 거하며 들의 모든 짐승이 그 가지에 있으리니

풀이: 쓰러진 그 나무 위에 하늘의 온갖 새가 내려앉고, 들의 온갖 짐승이 그 가지 위에 머물 것이다.

Upon his ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches:

이는 물 가에 있는 모든 나무로 키가 높다고 교만치 못하게 하며 그 꼭대기로 구름에 닿지 못하게 하며 또 물 대임을 받는 능한 자로 스스로 높아 서지 못하게 함이니 그들을 다 죽는데 붙여서 인생 중 구덩이로 내려가는 자와 함께 지하로 내려가게 하였음이니라

풀이: 이는 물가에 선 어떤 나무도 다시는 제 키를 자랑하며 교만하지 못하게 하고, 그 꼭대기를 구름 사이로 치솟지 못하게 하며, 물을 실컷 마시는 힘센 것들이라도 스스로 우뚝 서지 못하게 하려 함이다. 그들은 모두 죽음에 넘겨져, 구덩이로 내려가는 인생들과 함께 저 땅속 깊은 곳으로 끌려갈 것이다.

To the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their height, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither their trees stand up in their height, all that drink water: for they are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.

나 주 여호와가 말하노라 그가 음부에 내려가던 날에 내가 그를 위하여 애곡하게 하며 깊은 바다를 덮으며 모든 강을 쉬게 하며 큰 물을 그치게 하고 레바논으로 그를 위하여 애곡하게 하며 들의 모든 나무로 그로 인하여 쇠잔하게 하였느니라

풀이: 주 신이 이렇게 말한다. 그가 죽음의 세계로 내려가던 날, 나는 그를 위해 통곡하게 했다. 깊은 바다를 그 위에 덮고, 모든 강을 멈춰 세웠으며, 넘치던 큰 물을 그치게 했다. 레바논으로 그를 위해 애곡하게 하고, 들의 모든 나무가 그 때문에 시들어 가게 했다.

Thus saith the Lord God; In the day when he went down to the grave I caused a mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him.

내가 그로 구덩이에 내려가는 자와 함께 음부에 떨어뜨리던 때에 열국으로 그 떨어지는 소리를 인하여 진동하게 하였고 물 대임을 받은 에덴의 모든 나무 곧 레바논의 뛰어나고 아름다운 나무들로 지하에서 위로를 받게 하였느니라

풀이: 내가 그를 구덩이로 내려가는 자들과 함께 죽음의 세계로 떨어뜨릴 때, 그 무너지는 소리에 뭇 나라가 벌벌 떨게 했다. 그러나 물을 실컷 마시던 에덴의 모든 나무, 곧 레바논의 빼어나고 아름다운 나무들은 땅속 깊은 곳에서 도리어 위로를 받았다.

I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the nether parts of the earth.

그러나 그들도 그와 함께 음부에 내려 칼에 살륙을 당한 자에게 이르렀나니 그들은 옛적에 그의 팔이 된 자요 열국 중에서 그 그늘 아래 거하던 자니라

풀이: 그들도 그와 함께 죽음의 세계로 내려가, 칼에 맞아 쓰러진 자들 곁에 누웠다. 한때 그의 팔이 되어 주던 자들, 뭇 나라 가운데서 그 그늘 아래 깃들여 살던 자들이었다.

They also went down into hell with him unto them that be slain with the sword; and they that were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the heathen.

너의 영화와 광대함이 에덴 모든 나무 중에 어떤 것과 같은고 그러나 네가 에덴 나무와 함께 지하에 내려갈 것이요 거기서 할례 받지 못하고 칼에 살륙 당한 자 중에 누우리라 이들은 바로와 그 모든 군대니라 나 주 여호와의 말이니라 하라

풀이: 에덴의 나무들 가운데 영광과 위대함에서 너를 견줄 만한 것이 어디 있었느냐? 그러나 너 역시 에덴의 나무들과 함께 저 땅속 깊은 곳으로 끌려 내려가, 할례받지 못한 자들 틈에서 칼에 맞아 쓰러진 자들과 함께 누우리라. 이것이 바로 파라오와 그 모든 백성의 운명이다. 주 신의 말이다.

To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord God.
