민수기 35장

여호와께서 여리고 맞은편 요단 가 모압 평지에서 모세에게 일러 가라사대

풀이: 신이 여리고 맞은편, 요단강 가 모압 평지에서 모세에게 일렀다.

And the Lord spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,

이스라엘 자손에게 명하여 그들의 얻은 기업에서 레위인에게 거할 성읍들을 주게 하고 너희는 또 그 성읍 사면의 들을 레위인에게 주어서

풀이: 이스라엘 백성에게 명하여라. 각 지파가 차지한 땅에서 떼어, 레위 사람들이 살 성읍을 내주게 하여라. 그 성읍을 둘러싼 들판도 함께 레위 사람들에게 주어라.

Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them.

성읍으로는 그들의 거처가 되게 하고 들로는 그들의 가축과 물산과 짐승들을 둘 곳이 되게 할 것이라

풀이: 성읍은 그들이 사는 거처가 되고, 둘레의 들판은 그들의 가축과 재산과 짐승을 둘 자리가 되게 하여라.

And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.

너희가 레위인에게 줄 성읍들의 들은 성벽에서부터 밖으로 사면 이천 규빗이라

풀이: 레위 사람들에게 줄 성읍의 들판은, 성벽에서부터 바깥으로 사방 1천 규빗까지다.

And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.

성을 중앙에 두고 성 밖 동편으로 이천 규빗, 남편으로 이천 규빗, 서편으로 이천 규빗, 북편으로 이천 규빗을 측량할찌니 이는 그들의 성읍의 들이며

풀이: 성을 한가운데 두고, 성 밖 동쪽으로 2천 규빗, 남쪽으로 2천 규빗, 서쪽으로 2천 규빗, 북쪽으로 2천 규빗을 재어라. 이것이 그들의 성읍을 둘러싼 들판이다.

And ye shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.

너희가 레위인에게 줄 성읍은 살인자로 피케 할 도피성으로 여섯 성읍이요 그 외에 사십 이 성읍이라

풀이: 레위 사람들에게 줄 성읍 가운데 여섯은 도피성으로 정하여, 사람을 죽인 자가 그리로 달아날 수 있게 하여라. 그 외에 마흔두 성읍을 더 주어라.

And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.

너희가 레위인에게 모두 사십 팔 성읍을 주고 그 들도 함께 주되

풀이: 그러면 레위 사람들에게 주는 성읍은 모두 마흔여덟이 되고, 들판도 함께 준다.

So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs.

이스라엘 자손의 산업에서 레위인에게 너희가 성읍을 줄 때에 많이 얻은 자에게서는 많이 취하여 주고 적게 얻은 자에게서는 적게 취하여 줄 것이라 각기 얻은 산업을 따라서 그 성읍들을 레위인에게 줄찌니라

풀이: 이 성읍들은 이스라엘 백성이 차지한 땅에서 떼어 주는 것이니, 많이 받은 지파에게서는 많이, 적게 받은 지파에게서는 적게 거두어라. 저마다 물려받은 몫에 맞추어 레위 사람들에게 성읍을 내주어라.

And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth.

여호와께서 또 모세에게 일러 가라사대

풀이: 신이 다시 모세에게 일렀다.

And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

이스라엘 자손에게 말하여 그들에게 이르라 너희가 요단을 건너 가나안 땅에 들어가거든

풀이: 이스라엘 백성에게 전하여라. 너희가 요단강을 건너 가나안 땅에 들어가거든,

Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan;

너희를 위하여 성읍을 도피성으로 정하여 그릇 살인한 자로 그리로 피하게 하라

풀이: 성읍 몇을 골라 도피성으로 삼아라. 실수로 사람을 죽인 자가 그리로 달아날 수 있게 하기 위함이다.

Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares.

이는 너희가 보수할 자에게서 도피하는 성을 삼아 살인자가 회중 앞에 서서 판결을 받기까지 죽지 않게 하기 위함이니라

풀이: 이 성읍은 핏값을 갚으러 오는 자를 피하는 곳이다. 사람을 죽인 자가 회중 앞에 서서 재판을 받기 전에 죽임당하지 않도록 하려는 것이다.

And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment.

너희가 줄 성읍 중에 여섯으로 도피성이 되게 하되

풀이: 너희가 내줄 성읍 가운데 여섯을 도피성으로 삼아라.

And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge.

세 성읍은 요단 이편에서 주고 세 성읍은 가나안 땅에서 주어 도피성이 되게 하라

풀이: 셋은 요단강 이편에서, 셋은 가나안 땅에서 정하여 도피성이 되게 하여라.

Ye shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge.

이 여섯 성읍은 이스라엘 자손과 타국인과 이스라엘 중에 우거하는 자의 도피성이 되리니 무릇 그릇 살인한 자가 그리로 도피할 수 있으리라

풀이: 이 여섯 성읍은 이스라엘 백성에게도, 너희 가운데 머무는 타국인과 나그네에게도 똑같이 피난처가 된다. 실수로 사람을 죽인 자라면 누구든 그리로 달아날 수 있다.

These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither.

만일 철 연장으로 사람을 쳐죽이면 이는 고살한 자니 그 고살자를 반드시 죽일 것이요

풀이: 그러나 쇠 연장으로 사람을 쳐서 죽였다면, 그는 살인자다. 그 살인자는 반드시 사형에 처한다.

And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

만일 사람을 죽일만한 돌을 손에 들고 사람을 쳐죽이면 이는 고살한 자니 그 고살자를 반드시 죽일 것이요

풀이: 사람을 죽일 만한 돌을 손에 들고 쳐서 죽였다면, 그는 살인자다. 그 살인자는 반드시 사형에 처한다.

And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

만일 사람을 죽일만한 나무 연장을 손에 들고 사람을 쳐죽이면 이는 고살한 자니 그 고살자를 반드시 죽일 것이니라

풀이: 사람을 죽일 만한 나무 연장을 손에 들고 쳐서 죽였다면, 그는 살인자다. 그 살인자는 반드시 사형에 처한다.

Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

피를 보수하는 자가 그 고살자를 친히 죽일 것이니 그를 만나거든 죽일 것이요

풀이: 핏값을 갚는 자가 그 살인자를 직접 죽인다. 마주치는 자리에서 죽일 수 있다.

The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.

만일 미워하는 까닭에 밀쳐 죽이거나 기회를 엿보아 무엇을 던져 죽이거나

풀이: 미움 때문에 떠밀어 죽이거나, 숨어 노리다가 무엇을 던져 죽이거나,

But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;

원한으로 인하여 손으로 쳐죽이면 그 친 자를 반드시 죽일 것이니 이는 고살하였음이라 피를 보수하는 자가 그 고살자를 만나거든 죽일 것이니라

풀이: 원한을 품고 손으로 쳐서 죽였다면, 그를 친 자는 반드시 사형에 처한다. 그는 살인자이기 때문이다. 핏값을 갚는 자가 그를 마주치면 죽일 수 있다.

Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.

원한 없이 우연히 사람을 밀치거나 기회를 엿봄이 없이 무엇을 던지거나

풀이: 그러나 원한 없이 갑자기 사람을 떠밀거나, 노린 것 없이 무엇을 던졌거나,

But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,

보지 못하고 사람을 죽일만한 돌을 던져서 죽였다 하자 이는 원한도 없고 해하려한 것도 아닌즉

풀이: 보지 못한 채 사람을 죽일 만한 돌을 떨어뜨려 죽였다고 하자. 미워한 사이도 아니고 해치려 한 것도 아니라면,

Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm:

회중이 친 자와 피를 보수하는 자 간에 이 규례대로 판결하여

풀이: 회중은 사람을 죽인 자와 핏값을 갚으려는 자 사이를, 이 규례에 따라 판결해야 한다.

Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:

피를 보수하는 자의 손에서 살인자를 건져내어 그가 피하였던 도피성으로 돌려 보낼 것이요 그는 거룩한 기름 부음을 받은 대제사장의 죽기까지 거기 거할 것이니라

풀이: 회중은 사람을 죽인 자를 핏값을 갚으려는 자의 손에서 건져내어, 그가 달아났던 도피성으로 돌려보낸다. 그는 거룩한 기름 부음을 받은 대제사장이 죽을 때까지 거기에 머물러야 한다.

And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.

그러나 살인자가 어느 때든지 그 피하였던 도피성 지경 밖에 나갔다 하자

풀이: 그러나 사람을 죽인 자가 어느 때든 자기가 달아난 도피성 경계 밖으로 나갔다고 하자.

But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled;

피를 보수하는 자가 도피성 지경 밖에서 그 살인자를 만나 죽일찌라도 위하여 피 흘린 죄가 없나니

풀이: 핏값을 갚는 자가 도피성 경계 밖에서 그를 만나 죽이더라도, 그에게는 피 흘린 죄가 없다.

And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:

이는 살인자가 대제사장의 죽기까지 그 도피성에 유하였을 것임이라 대제사장의 죽은 후에는 그 살인자가 자기의 산업의 땅으로 돌아갈 수 있느니라

풀이: 사람을 죽인 자는 대제사장이 죽을 때까지 도피성에 머물러 있어야 했기 때문이다. 대제사장이 죽은 뒤에야 그는 자기 소유의 땅으로 돌아갈 수 있다.

Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.

이는 너희 대대로 거하는 곳에서 판단하는 율례라

풀이: 이것은 너희가 대대로, 사는 곳마다 지켜야 할 재판의 규례다.

So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

무릇 사람을 죽인 자 곧 고살자를 증인들의 말을 따라서 죽일 것이나 한 증인의 증거만 따라서 죽이지 말 것이요

풀이: 사람을 죽인 자는 증인들의 증언에 따라 사형에 처한다. 그러나 한 사람의 증언만으로는 누구도 사형시킬 수 없다.

Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.

살인죄를 범한 고살자의 생명의 속전을 받지 말고 반드시 죽일 것이며

풀이: 사형에 해당하는 살인자의 목숨은 속전을 받고 풀어 주어서는 안 된다. 그는 반드시 사형에 처한다.

Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.

또 도피성에 피한 자를 대제사장의 죽기 전에는 속전을 받고 그의 땅으로 돌아가 거하게 하지 말 것이니라

풀이: 도피성으로 달아난 자에게서도 속전을 받고, 대제사장이 죽기 전에 자기 땅으로 돌아가 살게 해서는 안 된다.

And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.

너희는 거하는 땅을 더럽히지 말라 피는 땅을 더럽히나니 피 흘림을 받은 땅은 이를 흘리게한 자의 피가 아니면 속할 수 없느니라

풀이: 너희가 사는 땅을 더럽히지 마라. 피는 땅을 더럽힌다. 피가 흘려진 땅은, 그 피를 흘린 자의 피가 아니면 씻을 길이 없다.

So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.

너희는 너희 거하는 땅 곧 나의 거하는 땅을 더럽히지 말라 나 여호와가 이스라엘 자손 중에 거함이니라

풀이: 너희가 사는 땅, 곧 내가 머무는 땅을 더럽히지 마라. 나 신이 이스라엘 백성 한가운데 머물러 살기 때문이다.

Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the Lord dwell among the children of Israel.
