느헤미야 8장

이스라엘 자손이 그 본성에 거하였더니 칠월에 이르러는 모든 백성이 일제히 수문 앞 광장에 모여 학사 에스라에게 여호와께서 이스라엘에게 명하신 모세의 율법책을 가지고 오기를 청하매

풀이: 이스라엘 백성이 저마다 자기 성읍에 자리를 잡았다. 그러다 일곱째 달이 되자 모든 백성이 한 사람처럼 수문 앞 광장에 모여, 학사 에스라에게 신이 이스라엘에게 명한 모세의 율법책을 가져와 달라고 청했다.

And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded to Israel.

칠월 일일에 제사장 에스라가 율법책을 가지고 남자, 여자 무릇 알아 들을만한 회중 앞에 이르러

풀이: 일곱째 달 첫날, 제사장 에스라가 율법책을 가지고 회중 앞에 나아갔다. 남자든 여자든, 알아들을 만한 사람은 모두 모인 자리였다.

And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.

수문 앞 광장에서 새벽부터 오정까지 남자, 여자 무릇 알아 들을만한 자의 앞에서 읽으매 뭇백성이 그 율법책에 귀를 기울였는데

풀이: 수문 앞 광장에서, 그는 새벽부터 정오까지 남자와 여자, 알아들을 만한 모든 이 앞에서 율법책을 낭독했다. 온 백성이 그 책에 귀를 기울였다.

And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.

때에 학사 에스라가 특별히 지은 나무 강단에 서매 그 우편에 선 자는 맛디댜와 스마와 아나야와 우리야와 힐기야와 마아세야요 그 좌편에 선 자는 브다야와 미사엘과 말기야와 하숨과 하스밧다나와 스가랴와 므술람이라

풀이: 학사 에스라는 이 일을 위해 특별히 짜 둔 나무 강단 위에 섰다. 그 오른쪽에는 맛디댜, 스마, 아나야, 우리야, 힐기야, 마아세야가 섰고, 왼쪽에는 브다야, 미사엘, 말기야, 하숨, 하스밧다나, 스가랴, 므술람이 섰다.

And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.

학사 에스라가 모든 백성 위에 서서 저희 목전에 책을 펴니 책을 펼 때에 모든 백성이 일어서니라

풀이: 에스라가 모든 백성보다 높은 곳에 서서, 그들이 보는 앞에서 책을 폈다. 그가 책을 펴자 온 백성이 자리에서 일어섰다.

And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:

에스라가 광대하신 하나님 여호와를 송축하매 모든 백성이 손을 들고 아멘 아멘 응답하고 몸을 굽혀 얼굴을 땅에 대고 여호와께 경배하였느니라

풀이: 에스라가 위대하신 신을 찬송하자, 온 백성이 두 손을 들고 "아멘, 아멘" 화답했다. 그러고는 무릎을 꿇고 얼굴을 땅에 대며 신에게 경배했다.

And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the Lord with their faces to the ground.

예수아와 바니와 세레뱌와 야민과 악굽과 사브대와 호디야와 마아세야와 그리다와 아사랴와 요사밧과 하난과 블라야와 레위 사람들이 다 그 처소에 섰는 백성에게 율법을 깨닫게 하는데

풀이: 예수아, 바니, 세레뱌, 야민, 악굽, 사브대, 호디야, 마아세야, 그리다, 아사랴, 요사밧, 하난, 블라야, 그리고 레위 사람들이 제자리에 선 백성에게 율법을 깨우쳐 주었다.

Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.

하나님의 율법책을 낭독하고 그 뜻을 해석하여 백성으로 그 낭독하는 것을 다 깨닫게 하매

풀이: 그들은 신의 율법책을 또박또박 낭독하고 그 뜻을 풀어, 백성이 읽어 주는 내용을 모두 알아듣게 했다.

So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.

백성이 율법의 말씀을 듣고 다 우는지라 총독 느헤미야와 제사장겸 학사 에스라와 백성을 가르치는 레위 사람들이 모든 백성에게 이르기를 오늘은 너희 하나님 여호와의 성일이니 슬퍼하지 말며 울지 말라 하고

풀이: 백성이 율법의 말씀을 듣고 모두 울었다. 그러자 총독 느헤미야와 제사장이자 학사인 에스라, 그리고 백성을 가르치던 레위 사람들이 온 백성에게 말했다. "오늘은 당신들의 신께 거룩한 날이니, 슬퍼하지도 울지도 마시오."

And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the Lord your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.

느헤미야가 또 이르기를 너희는 가서 살진 것을 먹고 단 것을 마시되 예비치 못한 자에게는 너희가 나누어 주라 이 날은 우리 주의 성일이니 근심하지 말라 여호와를 기뻐하는 것이 너희의 힘이니라 하고

풀이: 느헤미야가 또 말했다. "가서 기름진 것을 먹고 단 것을 마시되, 아무것도 준비하지 못한 이에게는 나누어 주시오. 오늘은 우리 주께 거룩한 날이니 근심하지 마시오. 신을 기뻐하는 것이 곧 당신들의 힘이오."

Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

레위 사람들도 모든 백성을 정숙케 하여 이르기를 오늘은 성일이니 마땅히 종용하고 근심하지 말라 하매

풀이: 레위 사람들도 온 백성을 진정시키며 말했다. "오늘은 거룩한 날이니 조용히 하고, 근심하지 마시오."

So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be ye grieved.

모든 백성이 곧 가서 먹고 마시며 나누어 주고 크게 즐거워하였으니 이는 그 읽어 들린 말을 밝히 앎이니라

풀이: 그러자 온 백성이 가서 먹고 마시고 나누어 주며 크게 즐거워했다. 읽어 준 말씀을 환히 알아들었기 때문이다.

And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them.

그 이튿날 뭇백성의 족장들과 제사장들과 레위 사람들이 율법의 말씀을 밝히 알고자 하여 학사 에스라의 곳에 모여서

풀이: 이튿날, 온 백성의 족장들과 제사장들과 레위 사람들이 율법의 말씀을 더 깊이 알고자 학사 에스라가 있는 곳에 모였다.

And on the second day were gathered together the chief of the fathers of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, unto Ezra the scribe, even to understand the words of the law.

율법책을 본즉 여호와께서 모세로 명하시기를 이스라엘 자손은 칠월 절기에 초막에 거할찌니라 하였고

풀이: 율법책을 살펴보니, 신이 모세를 통해 명한 말씀이 적혀 있었다. 이스라엘 백성은 일곱째 달 절기에 초막에서 지내야 한다는 것이었다.

And they found written in the law which the Lord had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month:

또 일렀으되 모든 성읍과 예루살렘에 공포하여 이르기를 너희는 산에 가서 감람나무 가지와 들 감람나무 가지와 화석류나무 가지와 종려나무 가지와 기타 무성한 나무 가지를 취하여 기록한바를 따라 초막을 지으라 하라 하였는지라

풀이: 또 모든 성읍과 예루살렘에 이렇게 공포하라고 적혀 있었다. "산에 올라가 감람나무 가지와 들감람나무 가지, 화석류나무 가지, 종려나무 가지, 그 밖에 잎이 무성한 나무 가지를 꺾어다가, 기록된 대로 초막을 지어라."

And that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, Go forth unto the mount, and fetch olive branches, and pine branches, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written.

백성이 이에 나가서 나무 가지를 취하여 혹은 지붕 위에, 혹은 뜰 안에, 혹은 하나님의 전 뜰에, 혹은 수문 광장에, 혹은 에브라임 문 광장에 초막을 짓되

풀이: 그래서 백성이 나가서 나뭇가지를 꺾어다가 초막을 지었다. 저마다 제집 지붕 위에, 마당 안에, 신의 성전 뜰에, 수문 광장에, 또 에브라임 문 광장에 초막을 세웠다.

So the people went forth, and brought them, and made themselves booths, every one upon the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the street of the water gate, and in the street of the gate of Ephraim.

사로잡혔다가 돌아온 회 무리가 다 초막을 짓고 그 안에 거하니 눈의 아들 여호수아 때로부터 그 날까지 이스라엘 자손이 이같이 행함이 없었으므로 이에 크게 즐거워하며

풀이: 포로살이에서 돌아온 회중 모두가 초막을 짓고 그 안에서 지냈다. 눈의 아들 여호수아 시절 이래로 이스라엘 백성이 이렇게 한 적이 없었다. 그래서 기쁨이 매우 컸다.

And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great gladness.

에스라는 첫날부터 끝날까지 날마다 하나님의 율법책을 낭독하고 무리가 칠일 동안 절기를 지키고 제 팔일에 규례를 따라 성회를 열었느니라

풀이: 에스라는 첫날부터 마지막 날까지 날마다 신의 율법책을 낭독했다. 백성은 7일 동안 절기를 지켰고, 여드렛날에는 규례를 따라 성회를 열었다.

Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according unto the manner.
