여호수아 4장

온 백성이 요단 건너기를 마치매 여호와께서 여호수아에게 일러 가라사대

풀이: 온 백성이 요단강을 다 건넌 뒤, 신이 여호수아에게 말했다.

And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over Jordan, that the Lord spake unto Joshua, saying,

백성의 매 지파에 한 사람씩 열 두 사람을 택하고

풀이: "백성 가운데서 각 지파마다 한 사람씩, 모두 열두 사람을 뽑아라."

Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,

그들에게 명하여 이르기를 요단 가운데 제사장들의 발이 굳게 선 그곳에서 돌 열 둘을 취하고 그것을 가져다가 오늘밤 너희의 유숙할 그곳에 두라 하라

풀이: "그들에게 명하여라. 요단강 한복판, 제사장들의 발이 굳게 디디고 섰던 바로 그 자리에서 돌 열둘을 집어 들고, 그것을 메고 건너가, 오늘 밤 너희가 묵을 그 자리에 내려놓으라고."

And command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests’ feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night.

여호수아가 이스라엘 자손 중에서 매 지파에 한 사람씩 예비한 그 열 두 사람을 불러서

풀이: 그러자 여호수아는 미리 정해 둔 그 열두 사람, 이스라엘 자손 각 지파에서 한 사람씩 뽑은 이들을 불렀다.

Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man:

그들에게 이르되 요단 가운데 너희 하나님 여호와의 궤 앞으로 들어가서 이스라엘 자손들의 지파 수대로 각기 돌 한개씩 취하여 어깨에 메라

풀이: 그리고 그들에게 일렀다. "너희 신의 궤 앞으로 나아가 요단강 한가운데로 들어가서, 이스라엘 자손의 지파 수대로 한 사람이 돌 하나씩을 어깨에 메어라."

And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of Jordan, and take ye up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel:

이것이 너희 중에 표징이 되리라 후일에 너희 자손이 물어 가로되 이 돌들은 무슨 뜻이뇨 하거든

풀이: "이것이 너희 가운데 표징이 되게 하려는 것이다. 훗날 너희 자손이 '이 돌들은 무슨 뜻입니까?' 하고 묻거든,"

That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?

그들에게 이르기를 요단 물이 여호와의 언약궤 앞에서 끊어졌었나니 곧 언약궤가 요단을 건널때에 요단 물이 끊어졌으므로 이 돌들이 이스라엘 자손에게 영영한 기념이 되리라 하라

풀이: "그들에게 답하여라. 신의 언약궤가 요단강을 건널 때 강물이 그 앞에서 끊겨 멈췄으니, 이 돌들은 이스라엘 자손에게 영원히 남을 기념이 되리라고."

Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.

이스라엘 자손들이 여호수아의 명한대로 행하되 여호와께서 여호수아에게 이르신대로 이스라엘 자손들의 지파 수를 따라 요단 가운데서 돌 열 둘을 취하여 자기들의 유숙할 곳으로 가져다가 거기 두었더라

풀이: 이스라엘 자손은 여호수아가 명한 그대로 행했다. 신이 여호수아에게 이른 대로, 이스라엘 지파 수에 맞춰 요단강 한가운데서 돌 열둘을 집어 들고, 자기들이 묵을 곳으로 메고 가 거기에 내려놓았다.

And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of Jordan, as the Lord spake unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

여호수아가 또 요단 가운데 곧 언약궤를 멘 제사장들의 발이 선 곳에 돌 열 둘을 세웠더니 오늘까지 거기 있더라

풀이: 여호수아는 또 돌 열둘을 따로 가져다, 요단강 한복판 — 언약궤를 멘 제사장들의 발이 섰던 바로 그 자리에 세웠다. 그 돌들은 오늘까지도 거기 그대로 있다.

And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests which bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day.

궤를 멘 제사장들이 여호와께서 여호수아에게 명하사 백성에게 이르게 하신 일 곧 모세가 여호수아에게 명한 일이 다 마치기까지 요단 가운데 섰고 백성은 속히 건넜으며

풀이: 궤를 멘 제사장들은, 신이 여호수아를 시켜 백성에게 전하게 한 일 — 곧 모세가 여호수아에게 명해 둔 그 모든 일이 다 끝날 때까지 요단강 한가운데 그대로 서 있었다. 그동안 백성은 서둘러 강을 건넜다.

For the priests which bare the ark stood in the midst of Jordan, until every thing was finished that the Lord commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over.

모든 백성이 건너기를 마친 후에 여호와의 궤와 제사장들이 백성의 목전에서 건넜으며

풀이: 백성이 모두 건너기를 마치자, 그제야 신의 궤와 제사장들도 백성이 지켜보는 앞에서 강을 건넜다.

And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of the Lord passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.

르우벤 자손과 갓 자손과 므낫세 반 지파는 모세가 그들에게 이른 것 같이 무장하고 이스라엘 자손들보다 앞서 건너갔으니

풀이: 르우벤 자손과 갓 자손과 므낫세 반쪽 지파는, 모세가 그들에게 일러 둔 대로 무장하고 이스라엘 자손보다 앞장서 강을 건넜다.

And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spake unto them:

사만명 가량이라 무장하고 여호와 앞에서 건너가서 싸우려고 여리고 평지에 이르니라

풀이: 싸울 채비를 갖춘 4만 명가량이 무장하고 신 앞에서 건너가, 전투를 치르려고 여리고 평지에 이르렀다.

About forty thousand prepared for war passed over before the Lord unto battle, to the plains of Jericho.

그 날에 여호와께서 모든 이스라엘의 목전에서 여호수아를 크게 하시매 그의 생존한 날 동안에 백성이 두려워하기를 모세를 두려워하던것 같이 하였더라

풀이: 그날 신은 온 이스라엘이 보는 앞에서 여호수아를 크게 높였다. 그래서 백성은 모세를 두려워하던 것처럼 여호수아를, 그가 살아 있는 동안 내내 두려워했다.

On that day the Lord magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.

여호와께서 여호수아에게 일러 가라사대

풀이: 신이 여호수아에게 말했다.

And the Lord spake unto Joshua, saying,

증거궤를 멘 제사장들을 명하여 요단에서 올라오게 하라 하신지라

풀이: "증거궤를 멘 제사장들에게 명하여, 요단강에서 올라오게 하라."

Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of Jordan.

여호수아가 제사장들에게 명하여 요단에서 올라오라 하매

풀이: 그래서 여호수아는 제사장들에게 "요단강에서 올라오라"고 명했다.

Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of Jordan.

여호와의 언약궤를 멘 제사장들이 요단 가운데서 나오며 그 발바닥으로 육지를 밟는 동시에 요단 물이 본 곳으로 도로 흘러 여전히 언덕에 넘쳤더라

풀이: 신의 언약궤를 멘 제사장들이 요단강 한가운데서 올라와 그 발바닥이 마른 땅을 딛는 순간, 요단강 물이 본래 자리로 되돌아와 전처럼 강둑을 넘쳐흘렀다.

And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.

정월 십일에 백성이 요단에서 올라와서 여리고 동편 지경 길갈에 진 치매

풀이: 백성은 첫째 달 10일에 요단강에서 올라와, 여리고 동쪽 변두리 길갈에 진을 쳤다.

And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho.

여호수아가 그 요단에서 가져 온 열 두 돌을 길갈에 세우고

풀이: 여호수아는 요단강에서 가져온 그 열두 돌을 길갈에 세웠다.

And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal.

이스라엘 자손들에게 일러 가로되 후일에 너희 자손이 그 아비에게 묻기를 이 돌은 무슨 뜻이냐 하거든

풀이: 그리고 이스라엘 자손에게 일렀다. "훗날 너희 자손이 자기 아비에게 '이 돌들은 무슨 뜻입니까?' 하고 묻거든,"

And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?

너희는 자손에게 알게 하여 이르기를 이스라엘이 마른 땅을 밟고 이 요단을 건넜음이라

풀이: "너희 자손에게 알려 주어라. '이스라엘이 마른 땅을 밟고 이 요단강을 건넜다'고."

Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

너희 하나님 여호와께서 요단 물을 너희 앞에 마르게 하사 너희로 건너게 하신 것이 너희 하나님 여호와께서 우리 앞에 홍해를 말리시고 우리로 건너게 하심과 같았나니

풀이: "너희 신이 너희가 다 건너기까지 너희 앞에서 요단강 물을 말려 주셨다. 너희 신이 우리 앞에서 홍해를 말려, 우리가 다 건너도록 하셨던 그때와 똑같이."

For the Lord your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:

이는 땅의 모든 백성으로 여호와의 손이 능하심을 알게 하며 너희로 너희 하나님 여호와를 영원토록 경외하게 하려 하심이라 하라

풀이: "이는 땅의 모든 백성이 신의 손이 얼마나 강한지를 알게 하고, 너희가 너희 신을 영원토록 경외하게 하려는 것이다."

That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the Lord your God for ever.
