여호수아 3장

여호수아가 아침에 일찌기 일어나서 이스라엘 사람들로 더불어 싯딤에서 떠나 요단에 이르러서는 건너지 아니하고 거기서 유숙하니라

풀이: 여호수아는 아침 일찍 일어났다. 그는 이스라엘 사람들과 함께 싯딤을 떠나 요단강에 이르렀다. 그러나 곧장 건너지 않고, 강가에서 하룻밤을 묵었다.

And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.

삼일 후에 유사들이 진중으로 두루 다니며

풀이: 3일이 지나자, 백성을 관리하는 책임자들이 진영을 두루 돌며 명령을 전했다.

And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the host;

백성에게 명하여 가로되 너희는 레위 사람 제사장들이 너희 하나님 여호와의 언약궤 메는 것을 보거든 너희 곳을 떠나 그 뒤를 좇으라

풀이: 그들이 백성에게 일렀다. "레위 사람 제사장들이 너희 신의 언약궤를 메는 것을 보거든, 너희도 있던 자리를 떠나 그 뒤를 따라가라."

And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.

그러나 너희와 그 사이 상거가 이천 규빗쯤 되게 하고 그것에 가까이 하지는 말라 그리 하면 너희 행할 길을 알리니 너희가 이전에 이 길을 지나보지 못하였음이니라

풀이: "다만 궤와는 약 2천 규빗(900미터쯤)의 거리를 두고, 가까이 다가서지 마라. 그래야 너희가 어느 길로 가야 할지 알게 된다. 너희는 이 길을 한 번도 지나본 적이 없기 때문이다."

Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.

여호수아가 또 백성에게 이르되 너희는 스스로 성결케 하라 여호와께서 내일 너희 가운데 기사를 행하시리라

풀이: 여호수아가 또 백성에게 말했다. "스스로 몸과 마음을 깨끗이 하라. 내일 신이 너희 가운데서 놀라운 일을 행하실 것이다."

And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the Lord will do wonders among you.

여호수아가 또 제사장들에게 일러 가로되 언약궤를 메고 백성 앞서 건너라 하매 곧 언약궤를 메고 백성 앞서 나아가니라

풀이: 그리고 여호수아는 제사장들에게 일렀다. "언약궤를 메고 백성보다 앞서 건너라." 그러자 그들은 언약궤를 메고 백성 앞으로 나아갔다.

And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.

여호와께서 여호수아에게 이르시되 내가 오늘부터 시작하여 너를 온 이스라엘의 목전에서 크게 하여 내가 모세와 함께 있던 것 같이 너와 함께 있는 것을 그들로 알게 하리라

풀이: 신이 여호수아에게 말했다. "오늘부터 내가 너를 온 이스라엘이 보는 앞에서 크게 높이기 시작하겠다. 내가 모세와 함께했던 것처럼 너와도 함께한다는 것을, 그들이 알게 하겠다."

And the Lord said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.

너는 언약궤를 멘 제사장들에게 명하여 이르기를 너희가 요단 물가에 이르거든 요단에 들어서라 하라

풀이: "너는 언약궤를 멘 제사장들에게 이렇게 명하여라. '요단강 물가에 다다르거든, 강물 속에 들어가 그대로 멈춰 서라.'"

And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan.

여호수아가 이스라엘 자손에게 이르되 이리 와서 너희 하나님 여호와의 말씀을 들으라 하고

풀이: 여호수아가 이스라엘 자손에게 말했다. "이리 와서 너희 신의 말씀을 들으라."

And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of the Lord your God.

또 말하되 사시는 하나님이 너희 가운데 계시사 가나안 족속과 헷 족속과 히위 족속과 브리스 족속과 기르가스 족속과 아모리 족속과 여부스 족속을 너희 앞에서 정녕히 쫓아내실 줄을 이 일로 너희가 알리라

풀이: 그가 이어 말했다. "살아 계신 신이 너희 가운데 계신다는 것을, 그리고 그분이 가나안 족속과 헷 족속, 히위 족속과 브리스 족속, 기르가스 족속과 아모리 족속과 여부스 족속을 너희 앞에서 반드시 몰아내실 것을 — 너희는 이 일로 알게 될 것이다."

And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.

보라 온 땅의 주의 언약궤가 너희 앞서 요단으로 들어가나니

풀이: "보라, 온 땅의 주인이신 분의 언약궤가 너희보다 앞서 요단강으로 들어간다."

Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passeth over before you into Jordan.

이제 이스라엘 지파 중에서 매 지파에 한 사람씩 십 이명을 택하라

풀이: "이제 이스라엘 지파에서 한 지파에 한 사람씩, 모두 열두 사람을 골라 두어라."

Now therefore take you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, out of every tribe a man.

온 땅의 주 여호와의 궤를 멘 제사장들의 발바닥이 요단 물을 밟고 멈추면 요단 물 곧 위에서부터 흘러 내리던 물이 끊어지고 쌓여 서리라

풀이: "온 땅의 주인이신 신의 궤를 멘 제사장들이 그 발바닥으로 요단강 물을 밟고 멈춰 서면, 위에서부터 흘러내리던 강물이 끊어지고 한곳에 둑처럼 쌓여 멈춰 설 것이다."

And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.

백성이 요단을 건너려고 자기들의 장막을 떠날 때에 제사장들은 언약궤를 메고 백성 앞에서 행하니라

풀이: 백성이 요단강을 건너려고 자기들의 천막을 거두어 떠날 때, 제사장들은 언약궤를 메고 백성 앞에서 행진했다.

And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people;

(요단이 모맥 거두는 시기에는 항상 언덕에 넘치더라) 궤를 멘 자들이 요단에 이르며 궤를 멘 제사장들의 발이 물가에 잠기자

풀이: (요단강은 보리 거두는 철이면 늘 강둑마다 물이 넘쳤다.) 궤를 멘 자들이 요단강에 이르러, 궤를 멘 제사장들의 발이 강물 가장자리에 잠기는 순간 —

And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)

곧 위에서부터 흘러 내리던 물이 그쳐서 심히 멀리 사르단에 가까운 아담 읍 변방에 일어나 쌓이고 아라바의 바다 염해로 향하여 흘러가는 물은 온전히 끊어지매 백성이 여리고 앞으로 바로 건널쌔

풀이: 위에서부터 흘러내리던 물이 멈춰, 저 멀리 사르단 곁의 아담 성읍 부근에서 둑처럼 쌓여 일어섰다. 그리고 아래쪽으로, 아라바의 바다 곧 사해를 향해 흐르던 물은 완전히 끊어졌다. 그렇게 백성은 여리고 맞은편으로 곧장 강을 건넜다.

That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.

여호와의 언약궤를 멘 제사장들은 요단 가운데 마른 땅에 굳게 섰고 온 이스라엘 백성은 마른 땅으로 행하여 요단을 건너니라

풀이: 신의 언약궤를 멘 제사장들은 요단강 한복판 마른 땅에 굳게 서 있었고, 온 이스라엘 백성은 마른 땅을 밟고 강을 건넜다. 온 백성이 요단강을 완전히 다 건널 때까지, 제사장들은 그 자리에 서 있었다.

And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.
