사도행전 6장

그 때에 제자가 더 많아졌는데 헬라파 유대인들이 자기의 과부들이 그 매일 구제에 빠지므로 히브리파 사람을 원망한대

풀이: 그 무렵 제자의 수가 부쩍 늘면서, 그리스어를 쓰는 유대인들 사이에서 히브리어를 쓰는 쪽을 향한 불평이 새어 나왔다. 날마다 나누는 구제에서 자기네 과부들이 뒷전으로 밀린다는 것이었다.

And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

열 두 사도가 모든 제자를 불러 이르되 우리가 하나님의 말씀을 제쳐 놓고 공궤를 일삼는 것이 마땅치 아니하니

풀이: 그러자 열두 사도가 제자들을 모두 불러 모아 말했다. “우리가 신의 말씀을 제쳐 두고 식탁 시중에 매달리는 것은 옳지 않습니다.

Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

형제들아 너희 가운데서 성령과 지혜가 충만하여 칭찬 듣는 사람 일곱을 택하라 우리가 이 일을 저희에게 맡기고

풀이: 형제 여러분, 여러분 가운데서 평판이 좋고 성령과 지혜가 가득한 사람 일곱을 골라내십시오. 그 일을 그들에게 맡기겠습니다.

Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

우리는 기도하는 것과 말씀 전하는 것을 전무하리라 하니

풀이: 우리는 기도하는 일과 말씀을 전하는 일에 온전히 매달리겠습니다.”

But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

온 무리가 이 말을 기뻐하여 믿음과 성령이 충만한 사람 스데반과 또 빌립과 브로고로와 니가노르와 디몬과 바메나와 유대교에 입교한 안디옥 사람 니골라를 택하여

풀이: 이 말에 온 무리가 흡족해했다. 그래서 그들은 믿음과 성령이 가득한 사람 스데반을 비롯해 빌립과 브로고로와 니가노르와 디몬과 바메나, 그리고 유대교로 개종한 안디옥 출신 니골라를 뽑았다.

And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

사도들 앞에 세우니 사도들이 기도하고 그들에게 안수하니라

풀이: 그들을 사도들 앞에 세우자, 사도들은 기도한 뒤 그들의 머리에 손을 얹었다.

Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

하나님의 말씀이 점점 왕성하여 예루살렘에 있는 제자의 수가 더 심히 많아지고 허다한 제사장의 무리도 이 도에 복종하니라

풀이: 신의 말씀은 점점 더 퍼져 나갔다. 예루살렘에서 제자의 수가 크게 불어났고, 수많은 제사장들까지 이 믿음에 따랐다.

And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

스데반이 은혜와 권능이 충만하여 큰 기사와 표적을 민간에 행하니

풀이: 스데반은 믿음과 능력이 넘쳐, 백성 가운데서 놀라운 기사와 표적을 행했다.

And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

리버디노 구레네인, 알렉산드리아인, 길리기아와 아시아에서 온 사람들의 회당이라는 각 회당에서 어떤자들이 일어나 스데반으로 더불어 변론할쌔

풀이: 그때 이른바 ‘자유민의 회당’에 속한 이들이 들고일어났다. 구레네와 알렉산드리아 출신, 그리고 길리기아와 아시아에서 온 사람들이었는데, 그들이 스데반과 논쟁을 벌였다.

Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

스데반이 지혜와 성령으로 말함을 저희가 능히 당치 못하여

풀이: 그러나 스데반이 지혜와 성령으로 말하는 것을, 그들은 당해 낼 수 없었다.

And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

사람들을 가르쳐 말시키되 이 사람이 모세와 및 하나님을 모독하는 말 하는 것을 우리가 들었노라 하게 하고

풀이: 그래서 그들은 사람들을 몰래 사주해 이렇게 말하게 했다. “이 사람이 모세와 신을 모독하는 말을 하는 걸 우리가 들었다.”

Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

백성과 장로와 서기관들을 충동시켜 와서 잡아 가지고 공회에 이르러

풀이: 그들은 백성과 장로와 율법학자들을 부추겼고, 들이닥쳐 스데반을 붙잡아서는 공의회로 끌고 갔다.

And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

거짓 증인들을 세우니 가로되 이 사람이 이 거룩한 곳과 율법을 거스려 말하기를 마지 아니하는도다

풀이: 그러고는 거짓 증인들을 내세웠다. 그들이 말했다. “이 사람은 이 거룩한 곳과 율법을 거슬러 말하기를 그치지 않습니다.

And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

그의 말에 이 나사렛 예수가 이곳을 헐고 또 모세가 우리에게 전하여 준 규례를 고치겠다 함을 우리가 들었노라 하거늘

풀이: 우리는 그가 이렇게 말하는 걸 들었습니다. 저 나사렛 예수가 이곳을 헐어 버리고, 모세가 우리에게 물려준 관습을 뜯어고칠 것이라고 말입니다.”

For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

공회 중에 앉은 사람들이 다 스데반을 주목하여 보니 그 얼굴이 천사의 얼굴과 같더라

풀이: 공의회에 앉아 있던 사람들이 모두 스데반을 뚫어지게 바라보았다. 그의 얼굴이 마치 천사의 얼굴 같았다.

And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.
