사사기 14장

삼손이 딤나에 내려가서 거기서 블레셋 딸 중 한 여자를 보고

풀이: 삼손이 딤나로 내려갔다. 그곳에서 블레셋 사람의 딸 가운데 한 여자를 보았다.

And Samson went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines.

도로 올라와서 자기 부모에게 말하여 가로되 내가 딤나에서 블레셋 사람의 딸 중 한 여자를 보았사오니 이제 그를 취하여 내 아내를 삼게 하소서

풀이: 그는 다시 올라와 부모에게 말했다. "딤나에서 블레셋 사람의 딸 하나를 보았습니다. 그 여자를 데려와 제 아내로 삼게 해 주십시오."

And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife.

부모가 그에게 이르되 네 형제들의 딸 중에나 내 백성 중에 어찌 여자가 없어서 네가 할례 받지 아니한 블레셋 사람에게 가서 아내를 취하려 하느냐 삼손이 아비에게 이르되 내가 그 여자를 좋아하오니 나를 위하여 그를 데려오소서 하니

풀이: 부모가 말했다. "네 친척의 딸 중에도, 우리 온 백성 중에도 여자가 없어서 하필 할례도 받지 않은 블레셋 사람에게 가서 아내를 얻으려느냐?" 삼손이 아버지에게 말했다. "그 여자가 제 마음에 꼭 듭니다. 그 여자를 데려와 주십시오."

Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.

이 때에 블레셋 사람이 이스라엘을 관할한고로 삼손이 틈을 타서 블레셋 사람을 치려 함이었으나 그 부모는 이 일이 여호와께로서 나온 것인줄은 알지 못하였더라

풀이: 그의 부모는 이 일이 신에게서 나온 것임을 알지 못했다. 그때 블레셋 사람이 이스라엘을 지배하고 있었는데, 신은 삼손을 통해 블레셋을 칠 빌미를 찾고 있었던 것이다.

But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the Lord, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.

삼손이 그 부모와 함께 딤나에 내려가서 딤나의 포도원에 이른즉 어린 사자가 그를 맞아 소리 지르는지라

풀이: 삼손이 부모와 함께 딤나로 내려가, 딤나의 포도밭에 이르렀다. 그때 어린 사자 한 마리가 그를 향해 으르렁거리며 달려들었다.

Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnath, and came to the vineyards of Timnath: and, behold, a young lion roared against him.

삼손이 여호와의 신에게 크게 감동되어 손에 아무 것도 없어도 그 사자를 염소 새끼를 찢음 같이 찢었으나 그는 그 행한 일을 부모에게도 고하지 아니하였고

풀이: 신의 기운이 삼손을 거세게 덮쳤다. 그는 맨손으로, 마치 새끼 염소를 찢듯 그 사자를 찢어 버렸다. 그러나 자기가 한 일을 부모에게는 말하지 않았다.

And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.

그가 내려가서 그 여자와 말하며 그를 기뻐하였더라

풀이: 그는 내려가 그 여자와 이야기를 나누었고, 여자가 무척 마음에 들었다.

And he went down, and talked with the woman; and she pleased Samson well.

얼마 후에 삼손이 그 여자를 취하려고 다시 가더니 돌이켜 그 사자의 주검을 본즉 사자의 몸에 벌떼와 꿀이 있는지라

풀이: 얼마 뒤, 삼손은 그 여자를 아내로 맞으러 다시 그 길을 갔다. 가던 길을 잠시 벗어나 죽은 사자를 살펴보니, 사자의 주검 안에 벌떼와 꿀이 들어 있었다.

And after a time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the carcase of the lion: and, behold, there was a swarm of bees and honey in the carcase of the lion.

손으로 그 꿀을 취하여 행하며 먹고 그 부모에게 이르러 그들에게 그것을 드려서 먹게 하였으나 그 꿀을 사자의 몸에서 취하였다고는 고하지 아니하였더라

풀이: 그는 손으로 꿀을 떠내 걸으면서 먹었고, 부모에게 이르러 그것을 나누어 주어 함께 먹게 했다. 그러나 그 꿀을 사자의 주검에서 떠냈다는 말은 하지 않았다.

And he took thereof in his hands, and went on eating, and came to his father and mother, and he gave them, and they did eat: but he told not them that he had taken the honey out of the carcase of the lion.

삼손의 아비가 여자에게로 내려가매 삼손이 거기서 잔치를 배설하였으니 소년은 이렇게 행하는 풍속이 있음이더라

풀이: 삼손의 아버지가 그 여자에게로 내려갔고, 삼손은 그곳에서 잔치를 베풀었다. 젊은 사내들이 으레 하던 풍습이었다.

So his father went down unto the woman: and Samson made there a feast; for so used the young men to do.

무리가 삼손을 보고 삼십명을 데려다가 동무를 삼아 그와 함께하게 한지라

풀이: 사람들이 삼손을 보고는, 그와 어울리도록 동무 서른 명을 데려왔다.

And it came to pass, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him.

삼손이 그들에게 이르되 이제 내가 너희에게 수수께끼를 하리니 잔치하는 칠일 동안에 너희가 능히 그것을 풀어서 내게 고하면 내가 베옷 삼십 벌과 겉옷 삼십 벌을 너희에게 주리라

풀이: 삼손이 그들에게 말했다. "내가 너희에게 수수께끼를 하나 내겠다. 잔치하는 7일 동안 너희가 그것을 풀어 답을 맞히면, 내가 베옷 서른 벌과 겉옷 서른 벌을 주겠다.

And Samson said unto them, I will now put forth a riddle unto you: if ye can certainly declare it me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty sheets and thirty change of garments:

그러나 그것을 능히 내게 고하지 못하면 너희가 내게 베옷 삼십 벌과 겉옷 삼십 벌을 줄찌니라 그들이 이르되 너는 수수께끼를 하여 우리로 듣게 하라

풀이: 그러나 풀지 못하면 너희가 내게 베옷 서른 벌과 겉옷 서른 벌을 내놓아라." 그들이 말했다. "수수께끼를 내 봐라. 어디 들어 보자."

But if ye cannot declare it me, then shall ye give me thirty sheets and thirty change of garments. And they said unto him, Put forth thy riddle, that we may hear it.

삼손이 그들에게 이르되 먹는 자에게서 먹는 것이 나오고 강한 자에게서 단 것이 나왔느니라 그들이 삼일이 되도록 수수께끼를 풀지 못하였더라

풀이: 삼손이 말했다. "먹는 자에게서 먹을 것이 나왔고, 강한 자에게서 단것이 나왔다." 3일이 지나도록 그들은 수수께끼를 풀지 못했다.

And he said unto them, Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness. And they could not in three days expound the riddle.

제 칠일에 이르러 그들이 삼손의 아내에게 이르되 너는 네 남편을 꾀어 그 수수께끼를 우리에게 알리게 하라 그렇지 아니하면 너와 네 아비의 집을 불사르리라 너희가 우리의 소유를 취하고자 하여 우리를 청하였느냐 그렇지 아니하냐

풀이: 7일째 되던 날, 그들이 삼손의 아내에게 말했다. "네 남편을 꾀어 수수께끼의 답을 우리에게 알아내라. 그러지 않으면 너와 네 아버지의 집을 불태워 버리겠다. 너희가 우리를 거덜 내려고 이 자리에 불렀느냐?"

And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they said unto Samson’s wife, Entice thy husband, that he may declare unto us the riddle, lest we burn thee and thy father’s house with fire: have ye called us to take that we have? is it not so?

삼손의 아내가 그의 앞에서 울며 가로되 당신이 나를 미워할 뿐이요 사랑치 아니하는도다 우리 민족에게 수수께끼를 말하고 그 뜻을 내게 풀어 이르지 아니하도다 삼손이 그에게 대답하되 보라 내가 그것을 나의 부모에게도 풀어 고하지 아니하였거든 어찌 그대에게 풀어 이르리요 하였으나

풀이: 삼손의 아내가 그 앞에서 울며 말했다. "당신은 나를 미워할 뿐, 사랑하지 않아요. 내 동족에게 수수께끼를 내고는 그 답을 내게는 풀어 주지 않잖아요." 삼손이 대답했다. "보시오, 나는 내 부모에게도 풀어 말하지 않았는데, 어찌 당신에게 말하겠소?"

And Samson’s wife wept before him, and said, Thou dost but hate me, and lovest me not: thou hast put forth a riddle unto the children of my people, and hast not told it me. And he said unto her, Behold, I have not told it my father nor my mother, and shall I tell it thee?

칠일 잔치할 동안에 그 아내가 앞에서 울며 강박함을 인하여 제 칠일에는 그가 그 아내에게 수수께끼를 풀어 이르매 그 아내가 그것을 그 민족에게 고하였더라

풀이: 잔치가 이어진 7일 내내 아내는 그 앞에서 울었다. 7일째 되던 날, 그녀가 어찌나 졸라 대는지 삼손은 끝내 답을 풀어 말해 주었고, 그녀는 그것을 자기 동족에게 일러바쳤다.

And she wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted: and it came to pass on the seventh day, that he told her, because she lay sore upon him: and she told the riddle to the children of her people.

제 칠일 해 지기 전에 성읍 사람들이 삼손에게 이르되 무엇이 꿀보다 달겠으며 무엇이 사자보다 강하겠느냐 한지라 삼손이 그들에게 대답하되 너희가 내 암송아지로 밭갈지 아니하였더면 나의 수수께끼를 능히 풀지 못하였으리라 하니라

풀이: 7일째 되던 날 해가 지기 전에, 성읍 사람들이 삼손에게 말했다. "무엇이 꿀보다 달겠으며, 무엇이 사자보다 강하겠는가?" 삼손이 그들에게 받아쳤다. "너희가 내 암송아지로 밭을 갈지 않았더라면, 내 수수께끼를 결코 풀지 못했으리라."

And the men of the city said unto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? and what is stronger than a lion? And he said unto them, If ye had not plowed with my heifer, ye had not found out my riddle.

여호와의 신이 삼손에게 크게 임하시매 삼손이 아스글론에 내려가서 그곳 사람 삼십명을 쳐 죽이고 노략하여 수수께끼 푼 자들에게 옷을 주고 심히 노하여 아비 집으로 올라갔고

풀이: 신의 기운이 삼손에게 거세게 임했다. 그는 아스글론으로 내려가 그곳 사람 서른 명을 쳐 죽이고, 그 옷을 벗겨 수수께끼를 푼 자들에게 주었다. 그러고는 분노가 타올라 아버지의 집으로 올라가 버렸다.

And the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father’s house.

삼손의 아내는 삼손의 친구 되었던 그 동무에게 준바 되었더라

풀이: 그 사이 삼손의 아내는, 들러리를 섰던 그의 친구에게 넘겨지고 말았다.

But Samson’s wife was given to his companion, whom he had used as his friend.
