사무엘상 5장

블레셋 사람이 하나님의 궤를 빼앗아가지고 에벤에셀에서부터 아스돗에 이르니라

풀이: 블레셋 사람들은 신의 궤를 빼앗아, 에벤에셀에서 아스돗으로 옮겨 갔다.

And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Eben–ezer unto Ashdod.

블레셋 사람이 하나님의 궤를 가지고 다곤의 당에 들어가서 다곤의 곁에 두었더니

풀이: 블레셋 사람들은 신의 궤를 가져다가 다곤 신전 안으로 들여, 다곤 곁에 세워 두었다.

When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.

아스돗 사람이 이튿날 일찌기 일어나 본즉 다곤이 여호와의 궤 앞에서 엎드러져 그 얼굴이 땅에 닿았는지라 그들이 다곤을 일으켜 다시 그 자리에 세웠더니

풀이: 이튿날 아침 아스돗 사람들이 일찍 일어나 보니, 다곤이 신의 궤 앞에 얼굴을 땅에 박고 엎어져 있었다. 그들은 다곤을 일으켜 다시 제자리에 세워 두었다.

And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.

그 이튿날 아침에 그들이 일찌기 일어나 본즉 다곤이 여호와의 궤 앞에서 엎드러져 얼굴이 땅에 닿았고 그 머리와 두 손목은 끊어져 문지방에 있고 다곤의 몸둥이만 남았더라

풀이: 그다음 날 아침에도 일찍 일어나 보니, 다곤이 또 신의 궤 앞에 얼굴을 땅에 박고 엎어져 있었다. 게다가 이번에는 머리와 두 손목이 잘려 나가 문지방에 떨어져 있었고, 몸통만 덩그러니 남아 있었다.

And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.

그러므로 다곤의 제사장들이나 다곤의 당에 들어가는 자는 오늘까지 아스돗에 있는 다곤의 문지방을 밟지 아니하더라

풀이: 그래서 다곤의 제사장들도, 다곤 신전에 드나드는 사람들도, 오늘날까지 아스돗에 있는 다곤의 문지방을 밟지 않는다.

Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon’s house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.

여호와의 손이 아스돗 사람에게 엄중히 더하사 독종의 재앙으로 아스돗과 그 지경을 쳐서 망하게 하니

풀이: 신의 손이 아스돗 사람들을 무겁게 짓눌렀다. 신은 그들을 황폐하게 만들고, 종기로 아스돗과 그 일대를 쳤다.

But the hand of the Lord was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.

아스돗 사람들이 이를 보고 가로되 이스라엘 신의 궤를 우리와 함께 있게 못할찌라 그 손이 우리와 우리 신 다곤을 친다 하고

풀이: 아스돗 사람들은 이 일을 보고 말했다. "이스라엘 신의 궤를 우리 곁에 둘 수 없다. 그 손이 우리와 우리 신 다곤을 이렇게 짓누르고 있다."

And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.

이에 보내어 블레셋 사람의 모든 방백을 모으고 가로되 우리가 이스라엘 신의 궤를 어찌할꼬 그들이 대답하되 이스라엘 신의 궤를 가드로 옮겨가라 하므로 이스라엘 신의 궤를 옮겨 갔더니

풀이: 그래서 그들은 사람을 보내 블레셋의 모든 영주를 불러 모으고 물었다. "이스라엘 신의 궤를 어떻게 하면 좋겠소?" 영주들이 대답했다. "이스라엘 신의 궤를 가드로 옮기시오." 그리하여 사람들은 이스라엘 신의 궤를 그리로 옮겼다.

They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.

그것을 옮겨간 후에 여호와의 손이 심히 큰 환난을 그 성에 더하사 성읍 사람의 작은 자와 큰 자를 다 쳐서 독종이 나게 하신지라

풀이: 그러나 궤를 옮기고 나자, 신의 손이 그 성에도 큰 혼란을 내려, 작은 자에서 큰 자까지 성읍 사람 모두를 쳤다. 그들의 몸에는 종기가 돋아났다.

And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the Lord was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.

이에 그들이 하나님의 궤를 에그론으로 보내니라 하나님의 궤가 에그론에 이른즉 에그론 사람이 부르짖어 가로되 그들이 이스라엘 신의 궤를 우리에게로 가져다가 우리와 우리 백성을 죽이려 한다 하고

풀이: 그러자 그들은 신의 궤를 에그론으로 보냈다. 신의 궤가 에그론에 들어오자, 에그론 사람들이 부르짖었다. "저들이 이스라엘 신의 궤를 우리에게로 옮겨, 우리와 우리 백성을 죽이려 한다."

Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.

이에 보내어 블레셋 모든 방백을 모으고 가로되 이스라엘 신의 궤를 보내어 본처로 돌아가게 하고 우리와 우리 백성 죽임을 면케 하자 하니 이는 온 성이 사망의 환난을 당함이라 거기서 하나님의 손이 엄중하시므로

풀이: 그래서 그들은 다시 사람을 보내 블레셋의 모든 영주를 불러 모으고 말했다. "이스라엘 신의 궤를 돌려보내, 제자리로 가게 하시오. 그래야 우리와 우리 백성이 죽음을 면하오." 성읍 전체가 죽음의 공포에 휩싸였으니, 그곳에 신의 손이 너무도 무겁게 내리누르고 있었던 것이다.

So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.

죽지 아니한 사람들은 독종으로 치심을 받아 성읍의 부르짖음이 하늘에 사무쳤더라

풀이: 죽지 않은 사람들도 종기로 시달렸고, 성읍의 울부짖음이 하늘에까지 사무쳤다.

And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.
