역대상 20장

해가 돌아와서 왕들의 출전할 때가 되매 요압이 그 군대를 거느리고 나가서 암몬 자손의 땅을 훼파하고 가서 랍바를 에워싸고 다윗은 예루살렘에 그대로 있더니 요압이 랍바를 쳐서 함락시키매

풀이: 한 해가 지나고 다시 왕들이 군사를 일으켜 출전하는 철이 돌아오자, 요압이 군대를 이끌고 나가 암몬 사람의 땅을 짓밟았다. 그러고는 진군해 랍바를 포위했다. 다윗은 예루살렘에 그대로 머물러 있었다. 요압은 랍바를 쳐서 마침내 무너뜨렸다.

And it came to pass, that after the year was expired, at the time that kings go out to battle, Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and destroyed it.

다윗이 그 왕의 머리에서 보석 있는 면류관을 취하여 달아보니 중량이 금 한 달란트라 그 면류관을 자기 머리에 쓰니라 다윗이 또 그 성에서 노략한 물건을 무수히 내어오고

풀이: 다윗은 그 왕의 머리에서 보석이 박힌 왕관을 벗겨 들었다. 무게를 달아 보니 금 한 달란트나 되었다. 다윗은 그 왕관을 자기 머리에 썼다. 그리고 그 성에서 어마어마한 양의 전리품을 실어 냈다.

And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set upon David’s head: and he brought also exceeding much spoil out of the city.

그 가운데 백성을 끌어 내어 톱질과 써레질과 도끼질을 하게 하니라 다윗이 암몬 자손의 모든 성읍을 이같이 하고 모든 백성과 함께 예루살렘으로 돌아오니라

풀이: 성안에 있던 사람들은 끌어내어 톱과 쇠써레와 도끼로 부리는 고된 노역을 시켰다. 다윗은 암몬 사람의 모든 성읍을 이렇게 다루었다. 그런 뒤 다윗은 온 군대와 함께 예루살렘으로 돌아왔다.

And he brought out the people that were in it, and cut them with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes. Even so dealt David with all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

이 후에 블레셋 사람과 게셀에서 전쟁할 때에 후사 사람 십브개가 장대한 자의 아들 중에 십배를 쳐 죽이매 저희가 항복하였더라

풀이: 그 뒤 게셀에서 블레셋 사람과 전쟁이 벌어졌다. 그때 후사 사람 십브개가 거인의 후손 가운데 하나인 십배를 쳐 죽였고, 블레셋 사람들은 굴복했다.

And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines; at which time Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Sippai, that was of the children of the giant: and they were subdued.

다시 블레셋 사람과 전쟁할 때에 야일의 아들 엘하난이 가드 사람 골리앗의 아우 라흐미를 죽였는데 이 사람의 창자루는 베틀채 같았더라

풀이: 블레셋 사람과 또 한 번 전쟁이 벌어졌다. 이번에는 야일의 아들 엘하난이 가드 사람 골리앗의 동생 라흐미를 죽였다. 그 사람의 창 자루는 베틀의 굵은 채만큼이나 두꺼웠다.

And there was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear staff was like a weaver’s beam.

또 가드에서 전쟁할 때에 그곳에 키 큰 자 하나는 매 손과 매 발에 가락이 여섯씩 모두 스물 넷이 있는데 저도 장대한 자의 소생이라

풀이: 가드에서 다시 전쟁이 벌어졌다. 그곳에 덩치가 어마어마한 사내가 하나 있었는데, 손가락과 발가락이 손마다 여섯, 발마다 여섯, 모두 합쳐 스물넷이었다. 그 역시 거인의 자손이었다.

And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot: and he also was the son of the giant.

저가 이스라엘을 능욕하는고로 다윗의 형 시므아의 아들 요나단이 저를 죽이니라

풀이: 그가 이스라엘을 모욕하며 도발하자, 다윗의 형 시므아의 아들 요나단이 그를 쳐 죽였다.

But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother slew him.

가드 장대한 자의 소생이라도 다윗의 손과 그 신복의 손에 다 죽었더라

풀이: 이들은 모두 가드의 거인에게서 태어난 자손이었다. 그러나 그들은 다윗과 그 부하들의 손에 하나하나 쓰러졌다.

These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
