사무엘하 10장

그 후에 암몬 자손의 왕이 죽고 그 아들 하눈이 대신하여 왕이 되니

풀이: 그 뒤의 일이다. 암몬 사람들의 왕이 죽고, 그 아들 하눈이 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다.

And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.

다윗이 가로되 내가 나하스의 아들 하눈에게 은총을 베풀되 그 아비가 내게 은총을 베푼것 같이 하리라 하고 그 신복들을 명하여 그 아비 죽은 것을 조상하라 하니라 다윗의 신복들이 암몬 자손의 땅에 이르매

풀이: 다윗이 말했다. "하눈의 아버지 나하스가 내게 호의를 베풀었으니, 나도 그 아들 하눈에게 그만큼 호의를 갚겠다." 그러고는 신하들을 보내, 아버지를 잃은 그를 위로하게 했다. 다윗의 신하들이 암몬 사람들의 땅에 들어섰을 때,

Then said David, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.

암몬 자손의 방백들이 그 주 하눈에게 고하되 왕은 다윗이 조객을 보낸 것이 왕의 부친을 공경함인 줄로 여기시나이까 다윗이 그 신복을 보내어 이 성을 엿보고 탐지하여 함락시키고자 함이 아니니이까

풀이: 암몬의 대신들이 자기들의 왕 하눈에게 말했다. "다윗이 조문 사절을 보낸 것이 정말 왕의 부친을 기리는 일이라고 보십니까? 다윗이 신하들을 보낸 건, 이 도성을 염탐하고 속속들이 살펴 무너뜨리려는 속셈이 아니겠습니까?"

And the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David rather sent his servants unto thee, to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?

이에 하눈이 다윗의 신복들을 잡아 그 수염 절반을 깎고 그 의복의 중동볼기까지 자르고 돌려보내매

풀이: 그러자 하눈은 다윗의 신하들을 붙잡아, 수염을 절반만 깎아 버리고 옷을 엉덩이가 드러날 만큼 가운데를 잘라 낸 뒤 돌려보냈다.

Wherefore Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.

혹이 이 일을 다윗에게 고하니라 그 사람들이 크게 부끄러워하므로 왕이 저희를 맞으러 보내어 이르기를 너희는 수염이 자라기까지 여리고에서 머물다가 돌아오라 하니라

풀이: 이 일이 다윗에게 전해졌다. 그 사람들이 너무나 수치스러워했으므로, 왕은 사람을 보내 이렇게 일렀다. "수염이 다시 자랄 때까지 여리고에 머물다가 돌아오너라."

When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed: and the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.

암몬 자손이 자기가 다윗에게 미움이 된줄 알고 사람을 보내어 벧르홉 아람 사람과 소바 아람 사람의 보병 이만과 마아가 왕과 그 사람 일천과 돕 사람 일만 이천을 고용한지라

풀이: 암몬 사람들은 자기들이 다윗에게 미운털이 박힌 것을 알고는, 사람을 보내 용병을 사들였다. 벧르홉과 소바의 아람 보병 2만 명, 마아가 왕의 군사 1천 명, 돕 사람 1만 2천 명이었다.

And when the children of Ammon saw that they stank before David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth–rehob, and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand footmen, and of king Maacah a thousand men, and of Ish–tob twelve thousand men.

다윗이 듣고 요압과 용사의 온 무리를 보내매

풀이: 다윗이 이 소식을 듣고 요압과 정예 부대 전체를 내보냈다.

And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.

암몬 자손은 나와서 성문 어귀에 진을 쳤고 소바와 르홉 아람 사람과 돕과 마아가 사람들은 따로 들에 있더라

풀이: 암몬 사람들은 성문 어귀에 나와 전열을 갖췄고, 소바와 르홉의 아람 군과 돕·마아가의 군사들은 따로 들판에 진을 쳤다.

And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entering in of the gate: and the Syrians of Zoba, and of Rehob, and Ish–tob, and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.

요압이 앞 뒤에 친 적진을 보고 이스라엘의 뺀 자 중에서 또 빼서 아람 사람을 대하여 진 치고

풀이: 요압은 앞뒤로 적진에 포위된 것을 보고, 이스라엘의 정예 가운데서 다시 가려 뽑아 아람 군을 맞서게 진을 쳤다.

When Joab saw that the front of the battle was against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians:

그 남은 무리는 그 아우 아비새의 수하에 붙여 암몬 자손을 대하여 진 치게 하고

풀이: 그리고 나머지 병력은 아우 아비새에게 맡겨 암몬 사람들을 맞서게 했다.

And the rest of the people he delivered into the hand of Abishai his brother, that he might put them in array against the children of Ammon.

가로되 만일 아람 사람이 나보다 강하면 네가 나를 돕고 만일 암몬 자손이 너보다 강하면 내가 가서 너를 도우리라

풀이: 요압이 말했다. "아람 군이 나보다 강하면 네가 와서 나를 돕고, 암몬 군이 너보다 강하면 내가 가서 너를 돕겠다."

And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee.

너는 담대하라 우리가 우리 백성과 우리 하나님의 성읍들을 위하여 담대히 하자 여호와께서 선히 여기시는대로 행하시기를 원하노라 하고

풀이: "담대하라. 우리 백성과 우리 신의 성읍들을 위해 용감히 싸우자. 그다음 일은 신께서 보시기에 좋은 대로 하실 것이다."

Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the Lord do that which seemeth him good.

요압과 그 종자가 아람 사람을 향하여 싸우려고 나아가니 저희가 그 앞에서 도망하고

풀이: 요압과 그를 따르는 병사들이 아람 군을 향해 싸우러 나아가자, 아람 군이 그 앞에서 달아났다.

And Joab drew nigh, and the people that were with him, unto the battle against the Syrians: and they fled before him.

암몬 자손은 아람 사람의 도망함을 보고 저희도 아비새 앞에서 도망하여 성으로 들어간지라 요압이 암몬 자손을 떠나 예루살렘으로 돌아오니라

풀이: 암몬 사람들은 아람 군이 도망치는 것을 보고 자기들도 아비새 앞에서 달아나 성안으로 들어갔다. 요압은 암몬 사람들에게서 물러나 예루살렘으로 돌아왔다.

And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, then fled they also before Abishai, and entered into the city. So Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.

아람 사람이 자기가 이스라엘 앞에서 패하였음을 보고 다 모이매

풀이: 아람 군은 자기들이 이스라엘 앞에서 패한 것을 보고 다시 모여들었다.

And when the Syrians saw that they were smitten before Israel, they gathered themselves together.

하닷에셀이 사람을 보내어 강 건너편에 있는 아람 사람을 불러내매 저희가 헬람에 이르니 하닷에셀의 군대 장관 소박이 저희를 거느린지라

풀이: 하닷에셀이 사람을 보내, 강 건너편의 아람 군까지 불러냈다. 그들은 헬람에 이르렀고, 하닷에셀의 군대 사령관 소박이 그들을 이끌었다.

And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the river: and they came to Helam; and Shobach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.

혹이 다윗에게 고하매 저가 온 이스라엘을 모으고 요단을 건너 헬람에 이르매 아람 사람들이 다윗을 향하여 진을 치고 더불어 싸우더니

풀이: 이 소식이 다윗에게 전해지자, 다윗은 온 이스라엘을 불러 모아 요단을 건너 헬람에 이르렀다. 아람 군이 다윗을 향해 진을 치고 맞붙어 싸웠다.

And when it was told David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed over Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.

아람 사람이 이스라엘 앞에서 도망한지라 다윗이 아람 병거 칠백승의 사람과 마병 사만을 죽이고 또 그 군대 장관 소박을 치매 거기서 죽으니라

풀이: 아람 군이 이스라엘 앞에서 달아났다. 다윗은 아람의 전차 부대 700과 기병 4만 명을 쓰러뜨렸고, 군대 사령관 소박을 쳐서 그 자리에서 죽게 했다.

And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew the men of seven hundred chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, who died there.

하닷에셀에게 속한 왕들이 자기가 이스라엘 앞에서 패함을 보고 이스라엘과 화친하고 섬기니 이러므로 아람 사람들이 두려워하여 다시는 암몬 자손을 돕지 아니하니라

풀이: 하닷에셀에게 매여 있던 왕들은 자기들이 이스라엘 앞에서 패한 것을 보고, 이스라엘과 화친하고 그들을 섬겼다. 그리하여 아람 사람들은 두려워, 다시는 암몬 사람들을 돕지 못했다.

And when all the kings that were servants to Hadarezer saw that they were smitten before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more.
